Avatar f tn Another conversion chart says that 60 mg of Armour is equivalent of 75 mcg of T4. For the latter, that would have been 120 mg of Armour instead of 90. So, just be aware that you most likely will need an increase, for that reason as well continuing to have symptoms. Another couple of things to consider is that any med with T3 in it is best taken by splitting the dose in half and taking 1/2 in the morning and half in the afternoon.
Avatar f tn In addition to the problem with Armour mentioned by LM, the 60 mg Armour is not enough to substitute for 137 of Synthroid. According to readily available conversion charts, 80 mg would be the right amount. Personally, I would not even consider changing back to Synthroid at this time, and risking further hypo problems during the switch. I would take the additional Armour, or better yet, make a switch to Nature-throid, which is basically the equivalent of Armour, without its recent problems.
Avatar f tn So you need to talk to the doctor about getting tested for Free T3, and make sure they do that every time you go in for tests. Also ask for an increase of the Armour to 60 mg daily. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypothyroid patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T4 and Free T3 as needed to relieve symptoms, without being constrained by resultant TSH levels. Symptom relief should be all important, not just test results.
Avatar f tn I went to an endo and he switched me from armour thyroid 90 mg to synthroid 88 mg thinking it would help with bone loss. I have been on it for 3 wks and feel extremely lethargic and I'm freezing. My friend things I should try levoxyl because she didn't do well on synthroid.
Avatar f tn My doctor recommended adding 15 mg of Armour Thyroid two days a week to my current dose of 30 mg. daily. My TSH has increased to 3.6 and I feel best at TSH 2.5. Is dosing differently two days a week really okay and safe for your body? Thank you!
Avatar n tn Going from 75 mcg Synthroid to 30 mg Armour also represents a significant decrease in meds. 30 mg Armour is roughly equivalent to 55-60 mcg Synthroid. When will you reevaluate and increase? Do you have recent labs to post with reference ranges?
Avatar f tn I am 28 yo female, I had my thyroid removed 10 years ago due to non cancerous nodules growing on it. I've been on synthroid since I was 11 yo. Everything was fine until I went off birth control pills. All of a sudden I had a hard time tolerating my 137 mcg dose of synthroid. I switched to armour thyroid, but couldn't tolerate any more than 60 mg. I felt great on just 60 mg, however my TSH shot up from 1 to almost 8.
Avatar n tn Since 60 mg of Armour is equivalent to only 66 mcg of T4 (not 100 mcg like shown in most conversion tables), that means the average daily requirement would be approx. 120 mg of Armour. Since thyroid med is not absorbed 100% the dose would need to be over 120 mg. That is why people taking a full daily replacement of Armour typically need somewhere between 150 and 300 mg of Armour (2 1/2 - 5 grainsz Is the Endo testing you for Free T4, and Free T3 along with TSH?
Avatar n tn Hard to have any suggestions without more info from you. What dosage of Armour Thyroid daily? What are these severe symptoms? Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
Avatar f tn My doctor upped my dose from 90 mg to 105 mg desiccated thyroid (60 mg in the morning, 45 mg in the afternoon) after the above tests.
Avatar m tn If it were me I would get back on 90 mg, regardless of the brand. Also, 90 mg of a desiccated thyroid med is not a large dose. What were your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report preciously? Do you know what tests are being done from today? Did you take your morning dose before the blood draw?
Avatar f tn I have been on Armour thyroid for a long time after having had one lobe of my thryoid removed for a non-malignent cyst. But O late I have had severe overall body itching shortly after I take my 30 mg. tab in the morning. Has anyone else had this reaction?
Avatar f tn t see my dr until July 18. Should I give it more time and see if the armour will get in mg system or should I up the Armour by 15 mg. I am also a vegetarian and it seems like when I eat certain foods or take certain vitamins I go into the disconnected feeling.
519035 tn?1348275773 Hi everyone. Doctor has switched me to armour thyroid as of yesterday. I have been on 50mg of synthroid. I am now on 30 grains of armour. Now I was cruious if any of you watied a couple of days before you popped the pill, or if you just up and switched? Is the conversion higher than what I am currently taking?? What side effects if any?? Thanks!
640719 tn?1277140030 pdf If you look at the table you will note that 100 mcg of synthetic T4 is supposed to be the equivalent of one grain (60 mg) of Armour Thyroid. Then you look further and it shows 100 mcg of T4 to be equivalent to 25 mcg of T3. This means that each mcg of T3 is equal to 4 mcg of T4. Since Armour Thyroid contains 39 mcg of T4 and 9 mcg of T3, if you convert the T3 to equivalent T4 (multiply by 4), then 39 plus (9 times 4) equals only 75, not the 100 shown in the table.
Avatar f tn In January, my Armour was upped to 30 mg, then in March, to 45 mg, and recently, to 60 mg. My thyroid numbers have gotten worse since I started Armour. I'll post them below. My doctor thinks I may not be absorbing the Armour. I've started digestive enzymes to see if that's the problem. I'd love to hear any advice or any comments from people who've experienced this general puffy / squishy feeling.
393685 tn?1425812522 The strengths currently involved in this change are the 2 gr (120 mg) , 3 gr (180 mg), 4 gr (240 mg) and 5 gr (300 gr). If we maintain our current schedule, these strengths should be available in October. During this time, we will continue to manufacture the .25 gr, .50 gr, 1 gr, and 1.5 gr tablets. However, we may encounter short-term backorders on these strengths as a result of increase in demand." I am not sure what "enhance" means - but I am trying to learn more.
Avatar f tn About 6 weeks ago I started having heart palpitations and went to the doctor. I was taking Armour 120 mg + 15 mg. The doctor cut my thyroid back to just the 120 mg. and I was to go back in 6 weeks. At the 4 week mark, the heart palpitations were so bad, I went back. Blood work showed that even with the 15 mg cut, my thyroid levels were still too high. They cut the medication to 90 mg about 5 days ago.
Avatar f tn Hello, My armour thyroid medication was increased to 240mg from 180mg and I have been on this dosage for approximately 6 weeks. My latest blood test results were as follows: T3 4.6 (2.3-4.2) T4 1.3 (0.8-1.8) and TSH 0.03 (0.50-5.20) Over the last few years I have increased my thyroid dosage starting very low and now at the high end. I feel better each time I increase but never feeling like I can be at my optimal best.
Avatar n tn He is willing to help and find another endo. 100mcg. Synthroid is equal to 60 mg. of Armour. I was taking 120 mg. Armour. The endo though I was taking way too much Armour, and as I said she does not prescribe Armour. I appreciate your thoughts.
Avatar f tn I have been on Armour Thyroid (15 mg) from Sept. 2010 until June 2011 at a TSH of about 2.7. Was feeling good - even through Mastectomy in December and 6 weeks radiation treatments for breast cancer which I finished in April 2011. In June began to feel fatigued, TSH was up to 8. (Maybe result of radiation?) Began taking 30 mg Armour, after 4 weeks TSH was 6.6, Free T4 0.80, Free T3 3.5. Began taking 60 mg Armour on July 1 (10 days ago and have had sinus type headaches behind eyes every day.
Avatar n tn My endo gave me 1 grain (60 mg) of Armour to replace 50 mcg of eutroxsig (synthetic T4). I wasn't absorbing Armour though so I switched back to T4.
