Avatar m tn Thanks Barb. That is really helpful advice since I take Armour Thyroid and need to take Vitamin D as well since my levels are low especially in the winter.
Avatar n tn My doctor is saying that my thyroid test is high and we should reduce the armor thyroid medicine. I am tired, depressed, have dry skin, my hair is thinning, and I have gained a good deal of weight. These are not hypertyroid systems. What is happening with these tests?
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with hypo thyroid. I have been put on 30mg of armour thyroid medicine. I am overweight and have been trying to lose weight. Since I've been on this medicine, I have hunger pains constantly, can't get enough to eat. I have called my dr. Of course he says it's not the med. I don't know what to do. I have already put on 4 lbs in 7 days. What other meds should I look into. HELP!!!!
Avatar n tn With no ovaries, it must be the thyroid medicine, right? When I saw that hot flashes and sweating were SEVERE side effects of the medicine, I stop taking the medicine on Friday. As of Monday, I am still having hot flashes. It's too early for a doctor to be open in our area. I'll call one this morning, but I don't know when I will be able to get into see him. QUESTION: What will happen when I stop the med suddenly?
Avatar f tn Cut those Armour thyroid pills in half! Absolutely! As my good doctor says, "The most common starting dose for patients with hypothyroidism is Armour thyroid, 90 mg which is cut in half with a razor blade and half is ideally taken twice a day, 10 to 20 minutes after breakfast and dinner. If you have trouble remember taking them, then take the entire dose before breakfast. It is also ideal to chew the tablet before swallowing.
Avatar f tn is there any other medicine besides armour thyroid that is so highly recommended for hypothyroidism? this is all new to me and my doc is absolutely clueless on how to fix the problem yet she put me on the meds (armour) that i believe will fix my body. im so frustrated!!! ive developed kidney stones and pancreas blockage over the past few years simply due to depriving my body of what it needs: a different medicine.
Avatar f tn i was on natural thyroid from Thailand but heard armour thyroid formula change back to how they used to have it. i have been taking the armour for 3 months and i feel aweful. is anyone else having these issues or should i just switch back to the thailand one?
Avatar f tn He put me on Armour 30 mg. I hear it is a natural thyroid medicine. I also asked him to add to my new blood order the FREE T3 and FREE T4. I havent gotten the new blood order yet.He also put me back on Lipitor 10 mg..... I saw something on t.v. that lipitor isnt good for women.. Do you know anything about that? I kinda thought I was hypo too. I just recently got insurance so all this stuff is new to me.. Thanks for your help..
Avatar n tn I just started taking Armour Thyroid medicine about a week ago. I am noticing a difference in my energy levels and love that my feet and hands aren't freezing all the time. However, starting yesterday I noticed that I am so hungry, so often. It comes on so quick and I think I could eat the kitchen table!! I eat healthy usually 3 meals and 2 snacks per day and excercise normally, but now I feel still hungry sometimes after I eat and definately within 2 hours of eating I am starving again.
Avatar f tn In my blood work my TSH was 0.03; Free T4 was1.1; T3 Total 82. I take 1.5 Armour Thyroid in the morning and .05 in the afternoon. I feel great my only problem is my constant hair loss. I also take 150 mg of Buproprion which I have cut down the last couple of weeks and am going to switch to sam-e in hopes that that is my problem. Am wondering if I am over medicated on the Armour.
Avatar n tn I have been so itchy the pass two weeks and it is driving me crazy and the only medicine I am on is Armour Thyroid. I was wondering if the Armour or my thyroid condition can be the cause of what is going on with me. It is driving me crazy and I am not sure what to do. I am not only itchy I also have some hives on my body in a couple of places and in some spots it looks like a heat rash. I am not sure if it is from me scratching these areas or something else.
Avatar f tn I was diagnoised with hypo thyroid about 5 years ago and started taking Armour. Three years later my doctor determined it was Hashie's and changed my script to Synthroid and Cytomel because my auto-immune system was attacking the Armour as it was my own thyroid hormones. I felt much better on Armour but my TSH kept switching from hypo to hyper. It is still doing this on the Synthroid. My symptoms do not mirror my current .06 TSH, still tired.
Avatar f tn I had read so much about getting on armour thyroid that I was glad when the new doc ordered armour. Now I have been reading about the new formulation and am wondering if I would do better with getting my levels up if I switched to the ERFA? Will my levels ever get where they need to be if I stay on the Armour? there is so much to consider here. It sounds like you can easily have your RX changed to a different pharmacy that would provide the ERFA. Has anyone done this?
519035 tn?1348275773 Armour is not a much much better medicine. It is a different medicine. For some it is better. For some it is worse. It will have no affect on the problem you are having.
Avatar m tn Been on tirosint 112 mcg for about 3 weeks after being taking off armour thyroid. These symptoms I get every morning a couple of hours after taking medicine. Headache, neck pain, leg cramps, warm weird feeling in face, some tightness in throat. I've been having a hard time with most thyroid meds. not sure why but the doctors not sure either. It also messes with my appetite and sometimes causes nausea and vomiting depending on how bad the headaches get.
Avatar n tn I am one of those (rare?) people who do well on Armour thyroid. In many forums, people complain about it being useless since the reformulation and switch to Erfa. However, I briefly tried Erfa as well and did not like it; it tended to make me hyper and I had to multi-dose it, whereas Armour can be taken once in the morning without problems.

Avatar f tn Hello! I had my thyroid removed 12 yrs ago, and have been on various thyroid replacement meds since. I was sluggish and cold etc on everything until Armour came into my life. I've been on a consistent dose (1 1/2 gr daily) for over 4 years now. Was able to work varying shifts and exercised regularly; last summer I competed in 2 triathalons and one 1/2 marathon! A few mths ago I had several dizzy spells and occasional light-headedness.
Avatar m tn symptoms came along with taking Armour Thyroid or Synthroid? I had no such symptoms of pgad til my dose of Armour Throid was hiked up. I didn't immediately connect the two until I did my own "test". I quit taking my thyroid medicine for 3 weeks. Within 5 days all pgad symptoms stopped! So I called my Doc and told her what I did. She said to stop for 3 more weeks and then she would start me on a lower dose, but it would be Synthroid this time. Guess what.....
Avatar f tn s very hard for us in Sweden to get hold of armour thyroid or erfa from the States nor Canada. So I have to make my desicions wisely. When I took Armour Thyroid (The new Armour Thyroid) I felt "foggy" all the time and I lost hair rapidly. I quit the treatment and am now thinking about switching to either nature thyroid or Erfa. I don't know which one's better. Appreciate answers from every single person. Blessings from Sweden.
Avatar f tn It mights take a while to get the medicine tweeked. Sounds to me with your TSH that high that you need to increase Armour again.
798555 tn?1292787551 NT is perscription hypo thyroid medicine. US made and marketed natural dessicated thyroid tablets very similar to the old Armour but with fillers less likely to cause absorbency and other issues. Powdered pig thyroid glands - medical grade and measured in grains like old medicine. Contains hormones T3, T4 and others. Some of us need additional T3, most do not. Synthroid is a synthetic T4 only thyroid med, thus the name they chose.
