Avatar n tn She is now 22 years old and she takes 120 mg of Armour Thyroid. I am concerned with her lab work and what an opinion would be if she is getting too much or not enough Armour Thyroid. Her doctor seems to think it is ok. Her most recent lab work shows: Free T3 4.3 TSH 0.
Avatar f tn Taking the meds will not cause your thyroid to deteriorate. It simply replaces the hormone your thyroid isn't making enough of. Most people use levothyroxine meds like Synthroid. Some people swear by Armour. I think it is a personal preference. Starting meds early in the course of the disease will prevent overt hypothyroidism with it's nasty health consequences. You may need dose increases periodically. It depends on how the Hashi's progresses with you.
727481 tn?1231203771 I was taking 88mcg of Levoxyl and because I felt unwell taking synthetic thyroid medications my doctor is having me try Armour. She gave me 90mg of Armour in place of 88mcg of Levoxl. Can anyone tell me if that is a correct converstion since now I feel extremely unwell, internal tremors, light headedness, etc. Seems to me that 90mg is too high when I look at some of the conversion tables on the internet, but I'm not sure they are correct. My TH prior to the change to Armour was .45.
765572 tn?1234697366 25 of synthroid to my daily dose of 60mg Armour thyroid. I hated that drug and my hair is starting to feel like normal again, I really do not want to take that drug again. I thought he could give me a higher dose of Armour, but he said no b/c my T3 is 196 and my Triiodothronine , Free Serum is 4.5 (range 2.0-4.4) I guess he is afraid that if he increases the Armour I will have way too much T-3??I don't know what to do, someone help. I do not want to take synthroid again.
Avatar f tn In the first 9 months I gained 22 lbs and had severe belly issues as well as muscle weakness, shortness of breath, foggy headed etc. Last July my doctor switched me to Armour thyroid 125mg which seemed to help the belly problem but not much else. My TSH at that time was 0.02. Then end of that month he changed it to 90mg. Since October I have lost 15 lbs have had some tremors and still the muscle aches and very irritable in general not feeling well.

Avatar m tn are thyroid T3 medications, natrual or symtheyc, sucj as Armour, Nature-Thyroid, available pnly with prescrtpion in the US or can they be bought ovet the counter? I live in Guatemala, need them and anc can't get them with or without prescription.
765572 tn?1234697366 Levothyroxine is the generic for synthroid, which is a T4 med only - those 2 can be interchangeable, but some people do better on one or the other. Cytomel is a T3 only med. Armour is a natural thyroid hormone which has both T4 and T3. T3 is a very short lived hormone - only lasts a few hours and often works best to split the dosage over the day. The body has to convert T4 into T3 in order to benefit. A lot of people do not have a problem making this conversion but others do.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been having a HORRIBLE side effect of bloating and pain/pressure ever since I started thyroid medication. I have been on 7 different medications and am currently on .25 Levoxyl cut in half every day. My last TSH test said I was hypo. Is anyone else having a really bloated and distended stomach to the point where you can't breathe and your clothes don't fit? Has anyone gone through this but to have it all corret itself once the medication/dosage is correct?
Avatar n tn Please can you tell me if thyroid treatment ( armour thyroid) would have had any effect on laser surgery. I had lasik and prk and the targets were not reached . one plus and one minus and an enhansment has been suggested.
Avatar f tn At this point, though, after extensive reading on both sides of the synthetic vs. natural thyroid medication (NTM) debate, I am grateful to have the opportunity to try a NTM. I am looking forward to seeing the results of taking a preparation that supplies not only T4, but T3, T2, T1, and calcitonin as well.
Avatar f tn I'm 60 and had my right thyroid removed 13 years ago. Will it EVER be possible to get off thyroid meds? Curerntly take Armour 45 mg. I've had insomnia and neck problems for over 12 years and wonder if there is a medication connection. (I previously took Synthroid 125 mg with same symtoms.
Avatar f tn I was hoping someone would have some advice for me about NOT taking thyroid medication. I have the opposite problem of most of you it seems...my doctors seem to want to over-medicate me. I had a sub-total thyroidectomy due to a very large goiter in 2000. I never was on medication because my throid levels were always within a good range. I did carry some extra weight and have some fatigue, but I didn't always have the healthiest diet or exercise routine.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar n tn last time my levels were tested my T3 was slightly elevated above the normal range. i asked the endo if she was alright with this--she told me that she was. the previous test had been in the normal range. i am taking 60 mgs of armour thyroid. some time back i noticed i would start to get really shaky within an hour or so after taking my armour.
Avatar f tn 70-1.80) and TSH 2.42 (range 0.40-4.00). Put me on 15 mg of Armour thyroid. Now in July retest my blood. Still feeling tired and sluggish. Free T3 3.6 (range 2.3-5.0), Free T4 1.09(range 0.70-1.80) and TSH 2.24 (range 0.40-4.00). She has put me on 30 mg of Armour 3X a week and then the 15mg of Armour 4x a week. I have been doing some research myself and it seems that the "optimal" numbers for TSH should be 2.0 or under and that my T4 needs to come up to about 1.4.
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
Avatar f tn I am under 25 mcg of Levoxly and 30 mg twice daily (60) of Armour Thyroid. I feel lightheaded, dizzy, nervous, hair falling out and the list goes on.... Am I under too much medication? Am I now hyer? I think I am.... They say the TSH should be at 0..? I thought it was between .5 and 3. Can you shed some much needed light - so I don't go crazy? Many Thanks!
Avatar f tn I used to have the ‘brain fog’ for years, even after I start taking the thyroid medication. I started with 75 mcg levothyroxine, then only 60 mg Armour now I take 75 mcg Synthroid AND 60 mg Armour. Only after I start taking both medications I stopped having the ‘brain fog’. Regarding the vitamins, now I take lots of vit C, all the Bs, especially B12 and the rest in low quantities. As far as the weight, well this is another story.
Avatar m tn Thyroid medication should be taken on an empty stomach, with a full cup of water, then wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before eating or drinking anything else. It's not the vitamin C in broccoli that causes issues; it's the fact that broccoli is a goitrogen, which interferes with thyroid function. Vitamins/minerals should not be taken within 4 hours of thyroid medication, especially, calcium.
Avatar f tn It is much more likely that in response to starting on Armour, your TSH level dropped and your output of natural thyroid hormone was also reduced. Serum thyroid levels are the sum of both natural thyroid hormone and thyroid medication. So, we hear quite often of a member starting on a low dose of thyroid med and actually feeling no better (or even worse) because there was no improvement in Free T4 and Free T3 levels.
1554612 tn?1294410935 Are you looking for Armour thyroid medication? You would have to get a prescription from your doctor, then get the medication from your pharmacy. I see you are in Ireland; I'm not sure it's available there.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar f tn What thyroid medication did you take, what dosage, why did you stop taking it and how long ago? What are your current thyroid hormone levels? Please post them, along with reference ranges.
