Armour thyroid lose weight

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid lose weight

Avatar f tn Don't necessarily agree that you specifically need Armour -- I feel great and am starting lose some weight (though I have to work at it) and have my life back. I take Tirosint (synthetic T4) and generic T3.. Doctors do what they were taught in med school, and that's to look at labs. When symptoms don't match the labs, many doctors get lost, because they believe they have to follow "protocol".
178107 tn?1315951230 They think all you need is medicine with T4 only in it like Levothyroxine when I think a lot of people need both to get feeling back to normal and to have energy again and be able to lose weight. I also have seen that the levothyroxine has a list of side effects with it. The armour has no side effects as long as it is dosed correctly. I hope I was able to help. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn Many time you will find that your TSH is on the lower side when taking Armour thyroid. Did you have a Free T3 test? That test should be done along side the TSH to compare values. Are you feeling a sense of hyperness - Or do you feel good? Your cholestrerol of 217 is not bad when looking at the LDL along side it. This is very typical in hypothyroid patients. You can try some diet changes to see if that helps. My last Chol - level was almost identical to yours 214 - with LDL 141.
457926 tn?1216006020 they changed my meds agian to armour thyroid 2 tabs of 90 mg does anyone know about this med. This discussion is related to Help very confused.
Avatar n tn Finally after 2-3 years of that nonsense, he himself said let's try Armour. I also wanted to lose weight. So I started on 1.5 grains of Armour 2 years ago and did great but they all freaked out cuz my TSH was non detectable. My docs nurse called all excited and said come to the office tomorrow. Good grief. so they reduced it to .90 and that was ok but my TSH was still low and I was having heart racing issues. Now I am on 60 mcg and doing ok.
Avatar f tn Hi there - I started Armour a couple of months ago (July this year) after doctors kept me on synthetic for 3 years. I kid you not, I'm in the UK and I was always a size 8, weighed between 7st10 and 7st12, I'm 5'3". In the three years, despite no change in my diet (in fact I used to eat more before I got ill!) my weight has literally doubled. I became an emotional wreck, combined with the fact that I'm on medication for bipolar disorder the thyroid made me feel like I wanted to die.
458072 tn?1291418786 Personally if it was me - I wouldn't go off totally but I am not a doctor. Armour does give thyroid patients a period of hyperness symptoms for 2 weeks during a med increase. I always have a heart palps and a little sleepnesses - for about a week or two when I increase my meds. But I am now at the point of Euthroidism that I know am working on my weight (lose 20 pound goal) So I am increasing in even doses to get my body moving now.
Avatar n tn Armour isn't the only natural thyroid med. I have, too, heard that Armour levels can be unreliable, but only from endos, and not from actual Armour patients. I haven't heard anything negative about Armour on this forum, except that they recently changed their formula and some people were reacting to the fillers. Compounding pharmacies can mix the amount you need, so if she's getting too much of one or the other, she can adjust.
Avatar f tn It becomes pretty much useless in many of us, particularly, when taking a medication with a T3 component, such as Armour Thyroid. You're only hyper if your symptoms are caused from excessively high levels of Free T3 and Free T4, which are the actual thyroid hormones and I don't even see your levels. If you have them, please post them, along with reference ranges, which vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report.
Avatar f tn been on syn and levo, no results. I am brand new to Armour Thyroid just got my scrpt yesterday, at 30mg. Took my first pill today, how long should I take to start seeing and feeling a difference? When should I consider switching to something else, if this does not work? I am Hypo, Hashimotos, w/goiter. very bad hair loss and weight gain, no energy, very forgetful, mental clarity is poor... all the symptoms of hypo. Have heard alot of mixed feedback from the new reform.
Avatar f tn I no longer have thyroid symptoms being on this type medication that contains both of the hormones needed for optimal health. It seems as though I am able to lose weight faster, also.
Avatar m tn I am 56, 5'4'' , 155 lbs and I have gained 20 lbs in one year!! I exercise hard 6 days/week, eat a low carb (<25 g) clean diet, no sugar, no bread, no pastas. I am on Armour Thyroid (3 grains/day) but still feel like a nap at 2:00 pm, although I am sleeping 7-8 hrs every night. Brain fog is rampant, lack of focus and concentration. Don't know where to go from here!! Please help. What am I missing? Weight just creeps up, I don't even want to step on the scale anymore, it just depresses me.
Avatar f tn I tried Synthroid and couldn't tolerate it, so we switched to Armour thyroid. I started off at 30 mg, and now about 5 years later I am taking 150 mg. Anti-thyroid antibody levels are incredibly high. The last two adjustments to the thyroid med was because my Free T4 was incredibly low. TSH was normal, but I felt extremely tired and fatigued. I have gained about 50 lbs (total).... ten pounds in the past 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn 9) explain the return of hypo symptoms like increased fatigue, inability to lose weight and hair loss? But my labs on 300 mg of Armour was still well within range (except TSH, but I have had a suppressed TSH for years because I was on a synthetic combo med before going on Armour), so my doctor does not care about that, and I've had no adverse effects from it either.
Avatar m tn 2) as well as low progesterone and estrogen levels. I was put on Armour Thyroid (60 mg, told to work my way up to whatever level felt good for me), Medrol (2 mgs, slowly worked my way up to 4 mgs daily), Estrogel and natural progesterone. I was told by my doctor to chew Armour. I've been doing OK; actually, more than OK. I felt pretty good on Armour and that surprised me given all the negative reviews I've been reading.
Avatar m tn I successfully lost 20 lbs. without even realizing it when I started being careful to get enough protein in my diet. Upon my doctor's advice, I bought some sliced turkey then rolled up each slice and secured it with a toothpick. These were great for a quick snack instead of the chips and other things I had snacked on before. I also started having an egg for breakfast, as my doctor advised, instead of cereal. What this amounted to was substituting protein for carbs when I could.
Avatar n tn I have a very low TSH level at 0.03, T3 level is 296, T4 level is 1.12. my hair has gotten very very thin and brittle, I continually gain weight. do I have hyper or hypo thyroid?
Avatar n tn I just started taking Armour Thyroid medicine about a week ago. I am noticing a difference in my energy levels and love that my feet and hands aren't freezing all the time. However, starting yesterday I noticed that I am so hungry, so often. It comes on so quick and I think I could eat the kitchen table!! I eat healthy usually 3 meals and 2 snacks per day and excercise normally, but now I feel still hungry sometimes after I eat and definately within 2 hours of eating I am starving again.
577348 tn?1221751491 I am the Co Leader Stella on the thyroid board and also an Armour patient myself. I willl be happy to help you with questions and whatever you may need to talk about.
Avatar f tn and or change in thyroid medication??? ( I was not able to lose weight before on armour but then again was not really dieting just working out at the gym) So if I'm hypo I dont know if its normal to be able to lose weight. And if I'm hyper ( which I was 2 months ago- then switched to lower dose of levothyroxine) I dont know? So confused??? If I go on cytomel will it help my symptoms immediately or is it another long process? What are the side effects?
Avatar n tn Correction, taking the WRONG thyroid meds can can cause weight gain. I gained weight on Synthroid, but am now losing it on Armour.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am currently taking 90mg of Armour Thyroid. My TSH is 2.73... But,I am gaining weight! I heard to switch Armour to Cytomel taken with Synthroid. Since Cyomel is more steady mixed with Synthroid for the T4. My doctor never heard of that and does not know how to convert 90mg of Armour to Cytomel and Synthroid taken together. Can you please help me?
Avatar m tn Yet losing weight would help, but between possibly not optimized thyroid and her rapid heart rate makes it nearly impossible to lose weight. I will have to go out and get most recent thyroid labs. She may have had blood drawn today. blood drawn 11/10/2017 so "only" one month ago TSH= not tested has been suppressed for a long time FT4 = 0.81 (0.78-2.19) = 2.1% of range FT3 = 3.38 (2.77-5.27) = 24.
Avatar f tn I got scared and wanted to try armour thyroid. 1 gram a day. Well, I started getting pelvic pain, back pain, and digestion issues. Been in it for 8 days. I think the armour might be causing my pain, and messing with my body. I think I should go back to 88 and 2.5 cytomel for 6 weeks. 7.5 was to much. And the loss of muscle tone scarey. But the pelvic ache is not fun, and my ph off causing a discharge. I did get tested for std's nothing has shown up yet. I let dr.
Avatar f tn Ovenware that a lot of people lose hair from the synthetic thyroid meds but not with the natural grinder up pig thyroid meds, so IF I need meds, that's what I want to use. Is the Armour medication expensive without insurance? Anyone who knows? Thank you for reading, I so hope I hear from you!
Avatar n tn I have been on synthroid for 6 weeks and was just increased to 100mcg. My last TSH was 5.5. When will I start to lose the weight I have gained. Nothing seems to work. How long does it take to get back to feeling normal. I have heard it takes a long time.
Avatar f tn Weight issues often go hand in hand with hypo symptoms. Most of us find that when our thyroid levels are where we need them to be, we can lose weight, even though we may have to work at it. If you would post your current thyroid lab results, members can help assess your situation and possible make comments/suggestions regarding the adequacy of your current treatment.
Avatar f tn Who put you on Armour? Your pharmicist? 2. Why are you using Armour? Is it a PROVEN thyroid issue? 3. What symptoms are you having? Is it just weight? ( if so... no-no) 4.You started on 2 grains.... How long were you one 2 grains - before you increased? - AND - increasing a WHOLE grain is not good... BTW. 5. Did you expect to lose weight right after the increase?
