armour-thyroid

Avatar n tn I have a relative that is using Armour Thyroid while she was leaving in the United States. She moved to Spain and would like to know if it is possible to get the same medication there or if there is an equivalent medication in Spain.\ Thanks.
Avatar f tn i am newly diagnosed with hashimotos and am currently taking armour thyroid.. i was wondering what is the normal starting dose for a hashimotos patient.. i am currently on armour 1/4 grain two in the morning and one at night.. when do patients usually start to feel better?? and if i was untreated for about eight years is it going to take longer for my body to adjust since i was not treated for so long?
Avatar f tn Cut those Armour thyroid pills in half! Absolutely! As my good doctor says, "The most common starting dose for patients with hypothyroidism is Armour thyroid, 90 mg which is cut in half with a razor blade and half is ideally taken twice a day, 10 to 20 minutes after breakfast and dinner. If you have trouble remember taking them, then take the entire dose before breakfast. It is also ideal to chew the tablet before swallowing.
Avatar f tn m not sure if my anxiety and jittery feeling is from the thyroid now b/c my Free T3 is not high and my Free T4 is low. Also can anyone tell why my Free T4 is always so low on Armour? I understand why the TSH is suppressed due to the T3 so that is understandable. I have done plenty of research and read a lot on forums, research papers, websites but am a little confused why on so much T3 my Free T3 is still not high and why my Free T4 is low (and why suddenly I feel like I'm a little hyper?
535882 tn?1396576685 As for the question about switching meds, as a patient - I did have trouble switching from Synthroid to Armour. After all this time - now on desiccated thyroid hormone - I am fine, but I think I had a hard time b/c of being so seriously ill while on Synthroid.
Avatar f tn t know I was supposed to take more to equal old Armour so still felt the same as on reformulated Armour. Took Synthroid to please my husband and mother who only know about it and convinced me I might feel better and couldn't fee worse on Synthroid). I did feel worse. Not sure if because Endo had me cold turkey NT and start Synthroid (so no T3 at all). I had a NT pills left and took 130 one morning when I felt like I was going crazy and within 2 hrs felt normal again.
Avatar n tn Usually increases are needed in Armour patients and thyroid patients who take Armour benefit greatly by splitting their dosages throughout the day,
Avatar m tn Nutri-West is an excellent company with excellent formulas. All the naturopaths and chiros I know use their products. This is a very good adrenal support formula and you shouldn't have any problems with it, including with your armour. It will compliment your armour to keep your adrenals healthy. I would make sure you are taking it twice a day. Make sure you take it at least 2 hrs after your armour, so it doesn't interfere with absorption of meds.
1602919 tn?1297874013 My Dr started me out on 30mg of Armour 5 days ago. The first night after taking it I felt very jittery, headaches, nausea, drymouth, and very bad anxiety. After 2 doses he told me to take half and I'm still feeling so jittery and I'm waking up in the morning with horrible anxiety and my heart is racing. Not sure what to do at this point because I don't think I can handle feeling like this for much longer. Is this a normal reaction when starting Armour or am I not tolerating it?
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum- an otherwise healthy and active 35 year old women. I was on 2 grains Armour thyroid for about 20 years with no problems, then they stopped making it. I got a supposedly identical dessicated thyroid from a Canadian pharmacy about 3 months ago. I took it for months with no problem, then about 1 month ago started having classic hyper symptoms- increasing HR, BP, PVCs, jittery, wired etc. These would get better when I decreased my dosage.
Avatar n tn t know if Armour sells straight T4. If you like your natural dessicated Armour, I do believe you can get various doses of natural T3 and T4 from a compounding pharmacy, then you could lower your T3 amount, but bump your T4 amount. Usually thyroid sufferers feel better with frees in the upper end of the range.
393685 tn?1425812522 I'm so glad I saw this, as I was wondering why suddenly my symptoms were returning! It felt like the beginning before I started taking armour. Huge exhaustion and bloating are the biggest symptoms. Also, had a blood test and I'm more hypo again, even though I'm taking armour thyroid. I'm surpirsed my naturopath didn't know about the formula change. Will definitly consider switching to nature-throid.
Avatar n tn nothing specific except more anxious and jittery in the morning (when I take Cytomel) In other words, I felt better before this last change (in fact I didn't feel that bad when my TSH was .01). Anyway, I know I am not a doctor, but my endocrinologist (who is very well respected) has been known for looking at the numbers and not at the patient. So, any suggestions?
Avatar n tn For anyone intersted: I changed to Armour thyroid and was feeling better WITHIN HOURS! Not even the medical profession was aware of this side effect. Thank God for forums like these where we can get answers instead of living in misery. God Luck.
Avatar f tn s very hard for us in Sweden to get hold of armour thyroid or erfa from the States nor Canada. So I have to make my desicions wisely. When I took Armour Thyroid (The new Armour Thyroid) I felt "foggy" all the time and I lost hair rapidly. I quit the treatment and am now thinking about switching to either nature thyroid or Erfa. I don't know which one's better. Appreciate answers from every single person. Blessings from Sweden.
Avatar n tn I have been on thyroid replacement therapy for 10 years with no problem. Suddenly about 3 months ago in June I started to get anxious, depressed and exhausted. Finally my doctors ran more thyroid testing and my TSH was a 7. They changed my medication from 112mcg of synthroid to 150mcg daily about three days ago. Now I'm jittery and having trouble sleeping. Is this the symptoms of an out of whack thyroid/ Will it get better as my body adjusts to the new dosage? Please help.
Avatar f tn That seemed to work for a while until I began to get jittery and bouts of insomnia..As a result, I am off all thyroid meds..My doctor wants me on the above thyroid meds every other day..I am trying extra virgin coconut oil, 2 tlbps. every day to see if it will stimulate my thyroid..I also take 4 drops of lugol's solution(iodine)..I am resisting the medication route..Anyone have this experience and used other treatments with success?
Avatar m tn To increase both will require an increase in your med dosage, and possibly the addition of some T3, from a desiccated med like Armour or T3. However, reaction to increases in thyroid med can be related not only the med/dosage of the increase, but to low cortisol or low ferritin. The diurnal saliva cortisol tests are much more diagnostic than a serum cortisol test that doctors usually order.
Avatar f tn I am on thyroid meds and have just changed from Armour (due to lack of med availablitity) to Synthroid and my hair is falling out again and I'm cold and tired. I lkso had my levels drawn and my TSH Low but T3 is high. Why would this be going on? Do I need cytomel with my synthroid? I am feeling confused and no sex drive, tired and moody. What should I do.
Avatar f tn I did see an improvement when I started Armour too - but I will tell you there is a period of time that must go by for your body to adjust to the T3 in Armour. It can put you a little jittery at the beginning so expect some of those things too. May I ask - If you did so well with both Cytomel and Synthroid - why are you going to Armour? How do you know your adrenals are weak? Have there been tests?
Avatar f tn ) and Levoxyl (the T4 drugs) a whack. Some people here take Armour (natural pig thyroid hormone) and rave. My combo is the same thing only synthetic. I'm feeling the best I've ever felt. Your body should have some sort of combo, in my humble opinion...
Avatar n tn I still felt hypo and terrible, gained a lot of weight, tired all the time (you know the drill) I finally found a doctor that was willing to try Armour. I started last weekend taking 2 grains (120 mg) in the am. I felt soooo shaky and jittery, sweating, AWFUL! I went down to 1 1/2 grain the next day. I called yest and the doctor said you just have to play with it maybe split the dose am/pm. This am I took 1 grain and still have the jittery, shaky sensation like when I had Graves.
393685 tn?1425812522 There is only one form of T3/T4 combo thyroid med and that is Armour and the other desiccated thyroid hormone medication. If the makers of Synthroid made a synthetic "combo" of T3/T4 thyroid hormone medication for these particular conversion issues than that med would be just as close as the desiccated ones. There is no "combo" med made in synthetic form. Cytomel can be added to Synthroid to give the same results of desiccated T3/T4 combo meds do together.
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone: I'm having a tough time phrasing this question without writing a very long post but here goes: I got a Hashi's dx 4 yrs. ago from high Tg and TPO ab's with normal thyroid function lab (TSH around 1.5). I was 46 y.o. and 2 yrs. post partum and got increased fatigue, hair loss and muscle fatigue when I weaned my son, then peri-menopause sx's too.
Avatar f tn I wanted to try the Armour brand because I read so much good about it and had lingering hypo symptoms. I switched doctors to someone who used this and did a full thyroid panel. My TSH was.9, Free T4 1.5, Free T3 2.8, Thyroid peroxidase 61.1, Anti-thyroglobulin 2.1. She diagnosed me with Hashimoto's for the first time. She put me on 60 mg Amour to start and sent me home. From the first day I took it I felt terrible, like I had taken pure caffeine.
Avatar f tn I had very hypo thyroid when the Armour brand stopped shipping in 2009. So it took a long time to feel better after a couple of other brands of thyroid med (long story). During the later part of that time is when my adrenals were low in the afternoon. Its difficult to differentiate thyroid symptoms from adrenal symptoms, some overlap. What I can say if some symptoms went away about three months into adrenal support. Then other symptoms went away after increased thyroid med.
