Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid generic name

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn Well....straight from Armour Thyroid....NP Thyroid is NOT a generic of Armour, although pharmacists think it is! I was told by Armour's pharmacist that there is NO generic for Armour...just FYI. When I tried to locate it here in Ohio, initially the pharms couldnt find it, I kept saying Acella....finally they looked under NP thyroid or just thyroid, manufactured by Acella, and there it was.....
1139187 tn?1355706647 levo is a generic for synthroid and has been proven to not absorb as well as brand name. i felt like crap on levo all the time. try switching to name brand.
535882 tn?1396576685 NP is "called" a generic of Armour, but it's not really. It works to our benefit that most think it is a generic because then we don't have to get our doc to change our Armour script or vice versa....but make no mistake it is NOT generic for Armour. If Armour isn't working for you, definitely try the NP...both kl42 and I have done well on it. Good luck!!
889468 tn?1241567623 About 6 weeks ago I switched from armour to thyroid usp(generic for armour because i was having problems with the fillers in the name brand. Im on 75 grain and a week after the switch I started having heart palps short of breath, muscle aches really bad cramping in my feet. I started feeling hyper the last few days went and did labs but only a t4 (total) and it was a 6.
Avatar f tn m not sure if Armour would be covered by Medicaid or not, because Medicaid typically only covers generics (without a medically sound reason for brand name) and there is no generic Armour. Your co-pay will depend on the insurance you have. I'm on Tirosint and my co-pay is about $54/mo; my co-pay for generic T3 med is about $9 for 90 days, but I have pretty fair insurance. Not getting the treatment you need is always a chance you take whenever changing doctors.
Avatar n tn Hey everyone, I just found out that my insurance will no longer cover my Armour Thyroid due to a packaging change.....I've taken synthroid and the generic version of armour and didn't feel anybetter. I can no longer afford armour, so is there any suggestions on what i can talk to my doctor about switching me on????
233759 tn?1210476796 ) I heard a pharmasist say that the drug companies are going to stop making Armour...he said he can no longer get the generic version because the drug companies stopped making it & he believes the brand name Armour is going to be stopped too. I do know that I can no longer buy the generic equivulant anywhere. Have you heard anything about this? 2.) I feel really stupid for asking this question.
798555 tn?1292787551 Was taking a generic dessicated Thyroid, now switching to Nature Throid. This generic was 65 mg per grain like Nature Throid, both have the same T4 and T3 amount per grain as old Armour. The extra 5mg must be non-active fillers ect, means nothing really. For any of you that switched, did you take the same amount of grains per day if taken with water? I take 2.5 grains two days and 2 grains the other 5 day per week of the generic.
Avatar f tn Sometimes people who take Synthroid have these problems. I am on Synthroid and have none. Some on this forum do better on natural drugs like Armour, Nature-Throid or Westthroid. Below is the link provided by Armour to doctors in your zip code who will prescribe natural thyroid medicine because many endos won't prescribe it. http://www.armourthyroid.com/con_phLocator.
Avatar f tn In December 2010 I began using Thyroid Plus -a thyroid support supplement with a bit of bovine thyroid in it. After about a week of taking it, I began to feel the hypo symptoms melting away. -I had more energy, I was sleeping better, and my joints and muscles no longer hurt. Also, the palpitations disappeared. That lasted about 6 weeks, and then the hypo symptoms came back and my thyroid started to enlarge. The I was started on the levothyroxine.
Avatar f tn You could try Armour Thyroid, or as an option, just go to a T4 and T3 generic, at the same amounts, or close, to what you were previously getting in your NP Thyroid.
Avatar n tn I was just wondering what dosage of Armour Thyroid other Hypothyroid patients were on? I understand it can be somewhat difficult to establish the correct dosage. I have read some patients started at 15mg while others started at 60mg but not what dosage they ended up with or how long it took them to arrive at an adequate dose. I was also wondering about the 'empty' stomach recommendation.
Avatar n tn I received an add the other day about armour thyroid. It can be gotten in canada, I don't use it but there is a web sight listed where you can order. Please PM me for more info.
Avatar n tn I am still tired, cold feet, cold hands, moody, puffy, depressed, just to name a few. Considering Armour?. Is there a possible this could do the trick or should I stay with levoxyl? All my test show "normal" so of course the Dr. is comfortable with what I am on., but I AM NOT NORMAL. Any suggestions? Avatar f tn I have been on thyroid med since 1994, i think i have tried just about all of them, was on Armour Thyroid now my insurance won't let me have it, couldn't really tell it did anything for me tho. Now i am on brand name Synthroid a little expensive but they also want me to take cytomel very expensive haven't tried it yet just the Synthroid. It seems my weight keeps going up no matter what i am on, it is so frustrating.
Avatar n tn Levothyroxine is generic. Synthroid is a name brand of the same drug. It is actually prefered by most Endo's, because it is a little more reliable from batch to batch. It is made with different fillers than what you have been used to with the Levo. Some people do not get along with it. Lactose or something is in it. It's possible you're allergic to the inert ingredients of the Synthroid.
Avatar f tn I used to take qualitest brand generic thyroid...... due to the FDA nd new regulations concerning guidlines.. they are no longer manufacturing it at this time... here are the main facts... i was taking 45 mg qualitest brand thyroid every morning... empty stomach. have taken it for 4 years .. have never had a problem. a while back, when i tried Armour brand .. half hour after taking it i started throwing pvc's. after two days liket this.. went to cardiac hospital..
535882 tn?1396576685 I still have some generic Armour just call thyroid, but just called Natur-throid to see when they will ship backorders. They said starting mid Nov for 1 grain only. I called a couple compounding places. Two said they cant copy the Armour formula because of patents. I thought there were no patents on Armour? Two places that I called said they change a little bit of the T3 amount so it is not identical but very close. And you guys found places that completely copy the original Armour formula?
Avatar f tn I know I'm impatient. I'm wanting an honest opinion. I've had adrenal issues and hoped changing from Armour (due to issues of it not working right) to NP Thyroid would help. I changed to NP Thyroid. My dose starting was 25 mg generic cytomel and 30 mg of armour. I know I'm just a week and a half into change but I'm sick. I don't get that feeling of wellness from the T3. Now I know it takes longer with natural thyroid but can anyone help me.
393685 tn?1425812522 I know Armour and Nature-Throid are porcine. I hope the Major Thyroid (generic I found at Walgreens) is porcine like Armour was. I cant tell much difference yet, only on it for one week so far.
314892 tn?1264623903 As I’ve shared before my biggest complaint about this drug is the confusion over its name. The brand name Levoxyl sounds too close to its generic name, levothyroxine. (Some comments above are yet another example of that confusion). Because of that you really have to monitor what you’re getting when you pick-up your meds, etc. About Armour, if it works for some – great! It’s the drug I wanted to be on but my dr advised against, in my case. I had loved the idea, 1.
566103 tn?1228385767 Synthroid is a brand name (one of several) drug that uses levothyroxine salts as the active ingredient. Levothyroxine is the generic form of the drug. It is a synthetic form of thyroxine, or T4 for short. Your body takes the T4 and converts it to T3 as it is needed. Armour is made by desicating and grinding up thyroids from swine, which is biologically similar to humans. It contains T4, and it also contains T3 (triiodo-something).
Avatar n tn Hi I recently switched from Levothyroxine to armour thyroid, I have definatly that I am finding less and less hair in the drain, and on my clothes ect......
