armour-thyroid

Avatar m tn Hi all, I was wondering if someone could message me with a reliable source of Nature Thyroid or Armour without a Prescription. I've been taking Levo for many years and it's just not working for me. TSH is still out of range.
1554612 tn?1294410935 Are you looking for Armour thyroid medication? You would have to get a prescription from your doctor, then get the medication from your pharmacy. I see you are in Ireland; I'm not sure it's available there.
Avatar f tn But, I am searching (in vain and getting very frustrated and at the end of my rope) for info/links to natural desiccated thyroid without a prescription. I do not have insurance nor do I have the $$ to cash pay one, and all the tests and the medication fee. My mother had a long history with hypothyroid, was on meds and actually died from going off meds (which in okd age and without insurance she couldn't afford). Long story short, I am my mothers daughter and following in her footsteps.
Avatar f tn There are many types of glandulars on the market. BUT the thyroid glandulars are not strong enough for actual thyroid disease....I know I tried them. They are considered a food supplement product and can be bought in health food stores. Unless they are getting thyroid meds from a different country or illegally......not good. Most likely they are talking about glandular products....
Avatar f tn I had my thyroid taken out in May this year. I was on synthetic but now am just starting on Armour. My thyroidectomy was due to suspicious cytology. Definitive diagnosis is difficult by needle aspiration and surgery is needed in some situations to be able to pin down a correct diagnosis. In my case, the thyroid was totally filled up with nodules so there wasn't much of it functioning anyway so they just took it out. I did fine. The surgery was as easy as one could imagine...
Avatar m tn In the USA at least, all hormones including thyroid hormone(s) T4 (Synthroid) and T3 (Cytomel) and Any natural desiccated thyroid med like Armour require doctor Prescription. To dose thyroid you absolutely need to be tested for at a minimum Free T4 and Free T3 tests. Typically people need to be at least in the middle of the reference range for BOTH thyroid hormones if not a bit higher int he range.
Avatar n tn I am at end stage of Hashimoto's disease and really struggling to feel ok and get the right treatment. I even started to have neuromuscular symptoms along with pretty severe depression. I'm 36 and became like an old woman! I was on 150 mg of levothyroxine and switched to Armour as I wanted to try T3. As I don't think I am tolerating Armour that well, I asked my doctor for an alternative. He wrote me a prescription for 50 mcg levothyroxine per day plus 20 mg of Cytomel.
Avatar m tn are thyroid T3 medications, natrual or symtheyc, sucj as Armour, Nature-Thyroid, available pnly with prescrtpion in the US or can they be bought ovet the counter? I live in Guatemala, need them and anc can't get them with or without prescription.
1018337 tn?1251567540 We made the switch to Armour from Synthroid due to her need for t3. She had been left hypo for several years by a pediatric endo. who was " numbers driven" She ignored many symptoms for far too long. Finally the symptom of heart issues (83 pvc's in 20 days) slapped us all in the face. This was my wake up call!!! Now we are on Naturethroid for one month. Anxious to see labs in a few weeks. Still think she is under dosed, but she is slowly beginning to feel better.

Avatar f tn I picked up my new prescription yesterday and it was not Armour Thyroid it was something called NP Thyroid. I hate that changes are made without even talking to me about it. I don't know whether to object or try it. I do have a tiny bit of thyroid that has grown back. Because my doctor would not renew my meds until I came back in for tests, I went a month without my Armour Thyroid before the last tests, taking health food store thyroid glandular during that time.
Avatar m tn "You can't breathe without the thyroid, you can't think without the thyroid, you'd constantly be constipated without a thyroid, and yet it's way down at the bottom of the list of possible causes of some very common symptoms." - Life Extension - Don't Overlook Your Thyroid.
Avatar n tn Please help me. I have been on armour thyroid for 30 years. Have done well with it. Four months ago, I started having severe symptoms . I really need some answers. If you have any suggestions for me, please get intouch with me.
Avatar n tn I smelled the bottle of pills and it had a very bad chemical smell to it, so I stopped taking them. I went to another pharmacy and got a new prescription of Armour thyroid. It seemed fine for the first 2-3 days and then I again got this burning in my throat, esophagus and stomach. When I smelled this second prescription bottle, it now too had this strong chemical odor. I contacted Forest Labs, the manufacturer, and they denied knowing about any such problems.
798555 tn?1292787551 I called Kroger pharmacy and they had the same thing for $68 for 90 pills, not too much cheaper, and their NP Thyroid was $38 for 90 pills. I asked the pharmacist why the price keeps going up. She said she doesn't really know why, but it seems like every 6 months or so it goes on back order. She said as soon as it comes off of back order, the price goes up. Anyone know WHY this happens. Seems like they are ripping the customer off because they can.
Avatar f tn I would suggest that you really should not do this without involving your doctor. Also, trying to get a prescription for Armour after the fact is a sure way to destroy your relationship with the doctor. Also, you really should be tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones first (Free T3 and Free T4, not Total T3 and Total T4), along with TSH. Then you will know your baseline results before making the change.
Avatar f tn I ordered the Thiroyd when I learned I could not just get a prescription easily filled for my latest Armour prescription. I had to wait 4 days for it and that is not an option. I need backup and I live 25 miles to the nearest pharmacy. I am concerned about telling my doctor about taking it, so I may tell him I want to try the American "Westroid P" thyroid and keep the Thai Thiroyd for back-up. Westroid P is supposed to be hypoallergenic so I am willing to give it a try.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately I don't know of a source for Armour Thyroid in India. My info is for a pharmacy in Canada from which it can be ordered, if you have a prescription. I think your best alternative would be to get your doctor to give you a script for a large quantity to take with you and take care of you at least for a while.
219241 tn?1413537765 Here in Hawaii I just told my dr I wanted to try Armour and he wrote me the Rx. I went to the pharmacy and picked it up. no problem. I don't know about seeing a dr. without insurance in the US. we have free clinics for people without insurance but I've never been to one because I've always had insurance. the only thing I can think of is to see a dr. in the US and tell him/her that you forgot your meds then they can draw blood to see what your levels are and make the appropriate Rx.
Avatar n tn Dear Gimel, I have taken Armour Thyroid for years in USA -- am now residing in south Kerala state, India. Can you please send me info about how to purchase Forrest Labs Armour Thyroid here in India? Thank you!
Avatar f tn What would be the determining factor for prescribing armour thyroid vs synthroid (and maybe cytomel)? I appreciate your help very much. It seems like it has taken forever to get the right dosage and help.
Avatar f tn I have had low thyroid for over 25 years. My first 22 years I was prescribed Armour Thyroid and did quite well on it most recently taking 90mg. Armour is not covered by insurance so eventually my doctor recommended I switch to Levothyroxin 100 mcg. After taking it for 2 years I gradually noticed symptoms returning, loss of hair, no energy, extremely dry skin and moderate weight gain. My new doc ran a thyroid panel: TSH 2.17, T4 was 10.3, T3 uptake 31.9, T3 total 68 (low).
Avatar n tn My pharmacy has asked the doctor to issue another prescription after he confirms that I have been informed of the risks for older adults taking Armour Thyroid. I have tried to find "risks" on the internet but can't seem to find anything.
Avatar m tn Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum- an otherwise healthy and active 35 year old women. I was on 2 grains Armour thyroid for about 20 years with no problems, then they stopped making it. I got a supposedly identical dessicated thyroid from a Canadian pharmacy about 3 months ago. I took it for months with no problem, then about 1 month ago started having classic hyper symptoms- increasing HR, BP, PVCs, jittery, wired etc. These would get better when I decreased my dosage.
