Armour thyroid edema

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid edema

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn I was on levothyroxin and did not do well. I had read so much about getting on armour thyroid that I was glad when the new doc ordered armour. Now I have been reading about the new formulation and am wondering if I would do better with getting my levels up if I switched to the ERFA? Will my levels ever get where they need to be if I stay on the Armour? there is so much to consider here. It sounds like you can easily have your RX changed to a different pharmacy that would provide the ERFA.
Avatar n tn I would ask point blank how the pitting edema is related to the thyroid disorder. Of course if this disease has caused you to gain a large amount of weight that could be the reason for you edema. I hope you will be assertive and demand answers. Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with Hashimotos and my doctor just upped my dose of Armour to 60mg after blood test of T4 being .8...........and since then I have had a lot of excesive bloating...........my legs especially...........I have gone up 2 pants sizes as well. This has happened in a few weeks. What might be up???? Could I be allergic to Armour??? Nothing makes the water go away.
Avatar n tn I was on synthroid with my TSH slightly suppressed but my free T3 and Free T4 wnl, so my interernist kept me on that dose of synthroid....I moved to another state, and the doctor here thinks synthroid is "worthless" and switched me to Armour 90mg twice a day. My TSH is now 0.01, my T4 is wnl and my T3 is excessively high as well as my Reverse T3. I do not understand what is going on. My doctor tells me it is a pituitary issue...and that he needs to put me on straight T3.....
Avatar f tn I am a female, 54 yr old, perimenopausal. One Dr thought it was thyroid, so I am taking Armour. Also taking digestive enzymes as another Dr believes I am malnourished. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks for your consideration.
744962 tn?1270942038 I ended up in hospital and the endo there dealt with me - the private dr I had gave me 100mcg of Thyroxin and 125mcg of Armour thyroid - it caused havoc - loads of weight loss then cut the thyroxin to 50mcg and the Armour to 30mcg and a month later removed Armour and put me on 20mcg of Cytomel. Hospital tests indicate T3 toxicisity and Small hypodense foci at right basal ganglia probably due to infact or ischemic changes. also indicates autoimune thyroiditis.
744962 tn?1270942038 Greetings to all I am hypo then was put onto 100mg Thyroxin per day and later also 125mg of Armour - months I told the dr Armour is not working for me - my legs and abdominal area is swollen and feels as if I am retaining a lot of water. Later dosage was dropped to 40mg of Armour and 50 Thyroxin - I felts awful for a long time. Armour was removed in July and then I was on 50mg of Thyroxin and 20mg of Cytomel for T3. Slowly started feeling a bit better yet still tired.
1401696 tn?1280838616 Hi again. is anyone out there taking Armour (new formulation). I have been on it for almost 4 weeks and i have felt pretty bad. TSH deopped from 1.8 to .23 and my t3s were elevated. I am getting scared of this med. Anyone doing good on it? It was reformulated.......Is synthroid better ? Anyone doing good on synthroid. I just want to feel better, Drs. seem clueless. Help. Please.
314892 tn?1264623903 mild pre-tibial edema, slow deep tendon relexes on relaxation phase and low body temp. Can anyone relate experiences (good or bad) with Cytomel?
Avatar f tn 25 mg of levo is an extremely low dose, especially since you are a fairly large person. You had RAI to destroy your thyroid, so we know that is not contributing any thyroid hormones to the mix. Even .5 mg is a low dose. Your first objective should be to have free T3 and free T4 tested immediately. T3 and T4 are the actual thyroid hormones (TSH is a pituitary hormone) and are much more important in diagnosing and treating hypo.
Avatar n tn I switched to Armour because I was having constipation very badly on 50mgs of Synthroid. And my doctor is an advocate of the natural thyroid. I don't have any side effects on the extra dose of Armour apart from an initial headache the first week which has disappeared. No jitteriness or nervousness or difficulty sleeping so I thought I was doing okay but my ankles are very badly swollen!
Avatar f tn An example of this effect is puffiness of the face, especially around the eyes, in the hands and ankles. This type of edema is reversible after low thyroid is treated and can also respond to diuretics.
Avatar m tn Contacted endo and expressed concern and she switched me to Armour which same thing more i took the more the edema puffiness increased. Was prescribed 30 mcgs or Armour. I am currently taking around 15 mcgs a day and puffiness has been better but energy is down along w constipation and other hypo symptoms returned. Really dont know what to do at this point. Any input would be great. Havent touiched on everything but tried to give best overview.
Avatar f tn I have been taking 120mcg Armour, my last labs 8/11 were TSH <0.01 and the Internist cut my Armour to 60, with no others labs requested. My prior labs requested by PRN were on 6/10/11 TSH 0.03, FreeT3 5.5 and FreeT4 1.31. Since cutting my Armour, I have palpitations, tired and my hands tremble. I have been on thyroid meds for 3 yrs now and still no one has me regulated. Does it ever get better?
Avatar m tn Elevated TGab indicates Hashimoto's. You'd have to have elevated TSI to diagnose Graves Disease. Your TSH is the only test that indicated hyperthyroidism; your Free T3 and Free T4 actually indicate beginning hypothyroidism. You could have a pituitary issue. If the pituitary doesn't produce TSH to stimulate the thyroid, the thyroid won't produce thyroid hormones.
1018337 tn?1251567540 I have tried synthroid years ago and it didn't help at all, infact I was more tired, so I took myself off and haven't been on meds for years. I just started with a new GP and we spoke about armour thyroid meds, I have started, it has been about 1 1/2 weeks. Don't really feel a change yet. Wondering how other people feel about the armour and your experiences.
Avatar f tn I know he is an MD that tries many alternative treatments. Also any suggestion on dessicated thyroid. I know Armour changed their formula since I was last on it so am wondering what other medications people have tried.
Avatar f tn I'm pn Armour and I was told Soy products shouldn't be used, I'd like to use wild yam cream, and I noticed it has soy oil in it, I'm not injesting it, you rub it on the skin, would this interfere with my Armour, I know its a dumb question, but i don't want to spend the money with the possiblility of not being able to use it.
Avatar f tn she upped my synthroid from 50 to 75mg could this be the cause of the edema a under medicated thyroid? if it is about how long does it take to regulate my body so the swelling goes away.please help i am so tired of fat feet and knees. It is 8 weeks today since i starting taking 75mg and the swelling is still here.
Avatar n tn TSH will look slightly hyper, Free T4 should me at least mid normal range, and Free T3 should look mid normal to high normal range (some even go a little above the high normal range) Anything below these and you are not optimal. I am sorry to say that your doctor is leaving you hypo and feeling sick. My goodness even the new range of TSH .30-3.0 shows you hypo! Go find a thyroid specialist so you can get to feeling better! Please do not settle for being left sick......
Avatar f tn Hi, Which one do you think is better, synthroid which is artificial hormone or armour thyroid which is bioidentical. Is anyone taking armour thyroid? Can anyone compare it's effect.
Avatar m tn About 5-6 years ago, my family dr at the time said that one of my thyroid levels was off but not the other one so they would not treat me. I didn't question this, nor did I really understand it. At that time, my exzema was much worse and my hair was falling out. My hear murmur also seemed to be acting up. They later tested it and found the same results and then gradually in the testing it went away. I have always experienced edema, constipation, dry skin, and hair loss.
Avatar n tn Hard to have any suggestions without more info from you. What dosage of Armour Thyroid daily? What are these severe symptoms? Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
