Avatar f tn Is it okay to take Armour thyroid with Xanax? with Advil? with a multi vitamin? with 5 HTP? ( If not, how far apart should the meds be spaced out?) Is it okay to take Xanax with with Advil? with a multi vitamin? with 5 HTP? (If not, how far apart should the meds be spaced out?) I think the Armour has to be spaced out with the multi vitamin but Im not sure about the others...
Avatar n tn I am one of those (rare?) people who do well on Armour thyroid. In many forums, people complain about it being useless since the reformulation and switch to Erfa. However, I briefly tried Erfa as well and did not like it; it tended to make me hyper and I had to multi-dose it, whereas Armour can be taken once in the morning without problems.
Avatar f tn Dr. Lupo: I have been on Armour Thyroid 15mg since Aug '08. All symptoms (fatigue/hairloss/muscle soreness/blurry vision/dizziness/feeling cold) stopped at first week of treatment but after that first week, I developed stomach inflammation (just had an endoscopy indicating inflammation consistent with daily aspirin intake). I do not take any aspirin or motrin, etc.. The only drug I take is Armour Thyroid. Is it possible to be react to Armour Thyroid in this way?
Avatar n tn I've been trying Levoxyl for a month and I don't have any complaints. Well, one complaint. It's hard to swallow. I was on Synthroid for a couple of years. I can't honestly say I notice any difference. My advice is not to tinker around with Armour unless it is proven that you don't get along well with a drug like Levoxyl. Sme people cannot handle the extra T3 in Armour. For others, it is neccesary.
Avatar n tn Armour is a natural thyroid replacement derived from pig thyroid. Doctors (except naturopaths) do not like to prescribe it because they think it is inconsistent. It contains T1, T2, T3 and T4. Unless you have a problem converting T4 to T3, they would rather have you on the synthetic because it is consistent, although the generics, they say, have differences in the fillers they use and can be inconsistent, also.
Avatar n tn Hard to have any suggestions without more info from you. What dosage of Armour Thyroid daily? What are these severe symptoms? Please post your thyroid test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
727481 tn?1231203771 Was never depressed before and after watching a commercial for a drug cautioning about depression symptoms I realized mine might be related to the drug and confirmed it on the internet linked to levothyroxine. Went off it immed. and switched to Armour in summer 2010 and feel great - energetic, upbeat and positive and my normal weight is returning. So glad for Armour!
Avatar f tn “Nature-Throid is a hypoallergenic combination thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) hormone replacement drug made from Thyroid USP. Nature-Throid is formulated using hypoallergenic inactive ingredients and does not contain any artificial colors or flavors, corn, peanut, rice, gluten, soy, yeast, egg or fish/shellfish.” I notice is doesn’t say what it DOES contain, just what it doesn’t.
Avatar n tn The medication contains T 1, 2, 3, 4, and calcitonin, all of which are produced by a healthy thyroid. It is not true that Armour is difficult to regulate or dirty. In fact, Armour batches have been recalled less frequently than their synthetic counterparts. This is not to say Armour is any better or worse; it is simply important to remember that different patients respond to different medications, and T4-only medications don't work for everyone.
5059986 tn?1363079912 Is it possible to take thyroxine with Armour so you can slowly taper of the synthetic drug and gradually increase Armour, I think my body just reacted badly because I was on 100mcg and then suddenly dropped to 30mg of natural thyroid, as i said before I have never faired really well with the synthetic so am desperate to change.
Avatar m tn t benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
Avatar n tn s your thyroid have your hair loss evaluated by a dermatologist or hair loss expert to rule out any other causes. However, make sure your thyroid is not being under treated or change thyroid drug brands. It just might be the thyroid condition itself which just needs time to heal. Hair and nails are the last to heal and take the longest to heal than all the thyroid symptoms, so patience might be the only medicine.
393685 tn?1425812522 Here is the information I received today from both RLC labs ( the makers of Naturethroid) and the FDA. YES!!! - I really talked to a live person with both of them:) Now remember - this is ONLY the most up to date information I have. It sounded a bit hairy on the phone with the FDA - but I'll explain below. First - both organizations were the best people I have spoken to in a long time. 1. RLC labs....... "There is NO ceasing of desiccated thyroid medication.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar f tn First - thyroid supplementation is for an underactive thyroid, bot an overactive thyroid. Both Armour Thyroid and levothyroxine are thyroid supplements - levothyroxine is T4, which is the form of hormone produced by the thyroid gland, and which is converted to the active T3 form. Armour Thyroid contains both T4 and T3. Some patients don't seem to convert T4 to T3 quite the way they should and this may explain why some feel better on Armour Thyroid.
Avatar n tn T3 at about 20:1. So, Armour contains about five times more T3 than our own thyroids would produce (if they could!). Cytomel is a T3-only drug. To add more T3 to Armour seems quite odd. I think you need a bit more T4 meds. Your FT4 is very low in the range (and was below range previously). T3 is very fast-acting and is neutralized by your system if not used promptly.
765572 tn?1234697366 25 of synthroid to my daily dose of 60mg Armour thyroid. I hated that drug and my hair is starting to feel like normal again, I really do not want to take that drug again. I thought he could give me a higher dose of Armour, but he said no b/c my T3 is 196 and my Triiodothronine , Free Serum is 4.5 (range 2.0-4.4) I guess he is afraid that if he increases the Armour I will have way too much T-3??I don't know what to do, someone help. I do not want to take synthroid again.
Avatar f tn I have tried multiple meds such as antidepressants and Gabapentin... always have had multiple side effects. Things like heart palpitation's, anziety and vision troubles. I can take xanax and Soma with no problems. My question is "could it be the Armour Thyroid that I take that causes the trouble?" I also have a movement disorder labeled as tremors/non-epileptic seizures which also gets worse with antidepressants.
1646889 tn?1301481228 He listened to what had been going on and agreed with me that the other drug I was on, for some reason, was suppressing my thyroid. Once going off the drug, my thyroid came back and is now functioning at a decent level. He has advised me to wean back on the Armour and see what happens. I have been doing that along the way and am down to less than 30 mg. I am finally starting to feel normal again!!
Avatar f tn In January 08 I began taking Armour Thyroid. Prior to taking the medication I was having occasional hot flashes and night sweats - now I am having continous severe hot flashes throughout the day and because of the night sweats I get very little sleep. My body feel like it is continously on fire - I am either stripping off my clothes, fanning or sweating profusely. Is there anything I can do to get some relief?
803938 tn?1403748253 There is a shortage b/c patients on Armour are very upset over the reformulization of the drug. Since Feb 2009 when the new Armour came on the market - patients have been complaining to their doctors and directly to the Forest Pharmacutical company about how the new Armour is failing them after year of being thyroid optimal.
Avatar f tn t give me any energy before and my hair was still falling out, what do I do now? The Armour was supposed to be my saving grace, the cure all thyroid drug, but now I just feel exhausted and want to cry. The brain fog is horrible. I go to the grocery store and forget when i came after.
Avatar m tn Synthyroid is a thyroid replacement drug which provides the body with only the T4 form, where as Armour thyroid supplies with both T3 and T4 forms of thyroid. Side effects are usually associated with over dosage and they are vomiting, convulsions, coma, heart failure, hypoglycemia etc. Discuss with your physician regarding this and follow her advise. Best.
458072 tn?1291415186 If - for sure - your adrenals are recovering from fatigue - that would mean your thyroid may be producing better levels of thyroid hormones. The Armour prescribed was given to you at a time -IF your adrenals were fatigued so it a good thing...... and you need some testing to make sure you may not be moving towards hyper When do you go for TSH testing again?
734073 tn?1278896325 I am 32, have hypothyroid for 8 years now. I was switched from Synthroid to Armour thyroid by a new doctor and never felt worse. I did it for 2 weeks and continued to feel worse. Body aches, moodiness, etc. I switched back to Synthroid and feel good again.
