Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid dosing information

armour-thyroid

Avatar m tn What dosage of Armour were you on before? What was happening that your dr took you off armour before? I think a starting dosage of 60mg of armour is a good starting point for about 4 weeks and then test to see where you are at. I have had great luck with increases every 5 weeks so as not to go hyper. The only thing is, it is a slow and careful fix. Taking 25 twice a day of cytomel sounds rediculously high....what did your labs look like while on it?
Avatar f tn Such a dose does not actually increase your serum thyroid hormone levels because the med will cause TSH to go down, which then reduces the output of natural thyroid hormone from the gland. Since serum thyroid levels are the sum of both natural thyroid hormone and thyroid medication, the net result of a small starting dose is little to no change in serum thyroid levels.
Avatar m tn Right now im on 60 mcg of Armour. And a take some herbal fomualation for my aredrnals. I started my thyroid journey about 6 months ago. I did not tolerate levothroxine at all. My symtoms are burning eyes, pretty heavy anxiety, weird headaches, brain fog, cranial pressure, hot flashes at night in my legs.A lot to deal with. Anyone else have these symtoms? Does this sound like more than a thyroid issue? I feel like this whole thyroid thing is a like a bad curse to have. Or is it just me.
Avatar n tn Since hypo patients taking only T4 med frequently find that the T4 is not being adequately converted to T3, if you can get your doctor to prescribe a desiccated natural thyroid med (NDT) like NatureThroid or Armour Thyroid I would do so. As for what dosage, the average human body produces about 100 mcg of T4 and 10 mcg of T3 daily. When taking thyroid med, the amount has to be higher to account for the loss related to absorption.
Avatar n tn Hi, After 6 months of not getting anywhere with my PCP, I finally got a referral to a Naturopath, who did many more tests than my PCP sis. Long story short, my B-12, Ferritin and DHEA levels were low. My FREE T3 and T4 were normal, as was my previous TSH. However, based on my symptomology - especially my low blood pressure and low body temperature - he has started me on Armour (as well as supplements of B-12, Iron and DHEA).
Avatar m tn I started to read books and papers about thyroid and decided to switch to armour thyroid. My dose on Levothyroxine was 88 mcg. The doctor switch me on 60 mcg armour thyroid. After 5 weeks on armour the TSH came back 47 and Free T4 in the lower limit. I started to feel very fatigue after 2 weeks in the armour thyroid. Now the doctor switched me to 90 mcg armour. almost one week into it and still have fatigue... the average pulse increased from 68 to 72 bpm. I am 5.
20875509 tn?1557442796 Before further discussion, do you take your Armour dose all at onece, or split the dose and take 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the afternoon? Also, do you defer your morning dose of Armour until after the blood draw for thyroid tests? If not, how long after the morning dose was the blood draw for your latest tests?
Avatar f tn I am taking 2 1/2 grains of Armour and having no problems. Feel very good. What are your thyroid test results and reference ranges?
Avatar f tn Dr. Lupo: I have been on Armour Thyroid 15mg since Aug '08. All symptoms (fatigue/hairloss/muscle soreness/blurry vision/dizziness/feeling cold) stopped at first week of treatment but after that first week, I developed stomach inflammation (just had an endoscopy indicating inflammation consistent with daily aspirin intake). I do not take any aspirin or motrin, etc.. The only drug I take is Armour Thyroid. Is it possible to be react to Armour Thyroid in this way?
Avatar f tn I recently told my doctor and he switched me to armour thyroid medication... Does anyone know if this will help with some of my weight gain and my chronic fatigue ...it is becoming unbearable... Sometimes there are days I'll sleep the WHOLE day!!! Not even waking up to realize...I'm always late for work...etc... If anyone can give me advice or tips on armour and if its better then synthroid please tell!!!
Avatar n tn t experience classic hyperthyroid symptoms after severe over-dosing by my GP on Armour, indicate Peripheral Thyroid Hormone Resistance (myopathy being lack of thyroid hormone in my tissues)? My neurologist (not the Dr. who is dosing my thyroid) is looking into all possibilities, including referring me to muscle specialist or a thyroid one, etc..., so I will be printing off your reply for supplying to him. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn No. Armour thyroid has T3 in it as well as T4. T3 is very fast-acting and soon neutralized by your body if not used promptly. So, many people find that multiple doses keep their FT3 levels more steady throughout the day. Other people don't seem to be as sensitive and find they can take it in one dose. You don't know the cause of your hypo? TPOab and TGab blood tests will tell you if the cause is Hashi's, which is the most prevalent cause of hypo in the developed world.
Avatar m tn Thank you for you kind response. I saw my Dr.yesterday and had all the blood work done, don't know the results yet. It was a tense visit because he is convinced by his friend, that is an Endo., that TSH is the only accurate test for thyroid. I told him that the Armour Thyroid people say you can't even use it with Armour because it will give you a false reading due to the addition of T3 in Armour. He doesn't believe the people that make the drug.
751197 tn?1270314156 I was diagnosed a week ago with hypothyroidism and have only been on the Armour Thyroid since this past Wednesday, so I'm new to this. For the last couple of days, I've been taking it sublingually rather than swallowing. I just read an article entitled "Should You Take Your Thyroid Hormone With Food vs. An Empty Stomach?" by Mary Shomon (Google to find it, since external links are apparently prohibited here).
Avatar f tn I am on Armour Thyroid.. I have been on for 8 weeks now. How long does it take to start to feel any better? I have been up and down. I am currently on 60mgs of Armour. 30 in the morning and 30 by 1pm. I just had labs done last week to see where I am number wise.. I was on Synthroid but didnt take. I was on 88mcg. What is that equivalent to with the Armour? Could I be in the right dose? Looking forward to making some new friends that can relate!
Avatar n tn If one would switch from Synthroid to Armour thyroid, What is the amount of armour to the amount of synthroid one is taking. Is there a formula to use to get the dosage.
648987 tn?1231201877 I know that it how it was for me too, except for my swelling thyroid. The Armour has not stopped that. I take 60 mcg and had my doc run my TSH last week just for fun... swelling was back. My TSH was a 0.46. Not much change from my last but then my TSH was never the problem, it was my swelling thyroid. The TSH is suppressed further with Armour (which is a combo T4 / T3 med) but most of the time, the TSH suppression below standard is o.k.
Avatar f tn I've been on 90 mg Armour Thyroid for about 13 years with no problems. Have felt good etc. Blood tests were done annually with only TSH being monitored until this year. My annual blood test last month, April 2017, showed TSH at 0.657 which is slightly higher number than it's been the last two years. For the first time(!) my Free T4 and Free T3 were also measured. Following are my results: Free T4 range is 0.8-1.5 and my result is 1.0. Free T3 range is 2.2-4.0 and my result is 5.
Avatar f tn This is contrary to what I have read online. Yet he is one of the leading thyroid specialists in the country. Looking for any valid information to back up what he is telling me.
Avatar f tn s very hard for us in Sweden to get hold of armour thyroid or erfa from the States nor Canada. So I have to make my desicions wisely. When I took Armour Thyroid (The new Armour Thyroid) I felt "foggy" all the time and I lost hair rapidly. I quit the treatment and am now thinking about switching to either nature thyroid or Erfa. I don't know which one's better. Appreciate answers from every single person. Blessings from Sweden.
Avatar f tn Also, What TSH levels, warrant what quantities of Armour Thyroid and in what increments of dosing in the elderly population? Thank You so very, very much for your time and attention. Blessings. And More Blessings. "Internet Calls" AND "House Calls" are all I have left.
