Avatar f tn Hello, My armour thyroid medication was increased to 240mg from 180mg and I have been on this dosage for approximately 6 weeks. My latest blood test results were as follows: T3 4.6 (2.3-4.2) T4 1.3 (0.8-1.8) and TSH 0.03 (0.50-5.20) Over the last few years I have increased my thyroid dosage starting very low and now at the high end. I feel better each time I increase but never feeling like I can be at my optimal best.
489786 tn?1255692879 m now learning that there may be a difference between compound and armour - my t4 is not converting- so can a compound add more of the t4
Avatar m tn I have been taking Armour thyroid with satisfactory results. Unfortunately, I can't find a pharmacy that has it in stock. My M.D. has suggested that I begin taking Synthroid and I am scared that my symptoms may return. I am taking 90mg of Armour and my prescription is for 150mcg of Synthroid. If I have no choice and must change, how do you suggest I make the change.
Avatar m tn Just curious about what you meant by compound thyroid. Did you mean an NDT type T4/T3 med, or a specially compounded thyroid med? If the former, what dosage do you take daily? If the latter what thyroid hormones are in the compound and what is the daily dosage of each hormone?
1296717 tn?1272719314 Last year, Armour thyroid was changed and the manufacturer neglected to tell the medical community about this change. One day, as I went to my local pharmacy to pick up my prescription, they informed me that it was no longer available. As with my entire journey with Thyroid health, I researched and found out that the medication was on "back order" due to a shortage in Pig thyroid which is the main ingredient.
889468 tn?1241567623 About 6 weeks ago I switched from armour to thyroid usp(generic for armour because i was having problems with the fillers in the name brand. Im on 75 grain and a week after the switch I started having heart palps short of breath, muscle aches really bad cramping in my feet. I started feeling hyper the last few days went and did labs but only a t4 (total) and it was a 6.
Avatar f tn Just curious, did you change from Armour to a different brand? If so, the compound mixture may be causing a low level allergic reaction. To test this, you could try 25-50 mg of Benedryl (diphenhydramine) and if it relieves the symptoms, then you have a histamine response (allergic reaction) occurring...
Avatar n tn When some place says the have Armour in capsules, they are misleading you. They are copying as close to Armour using Dessicated Thyroid Powder and putting it in capsules. Its not the same.
Avatar f tn If you were really on the OLD Armour thyroid that recently ( changed and was weeding out that old formula last in May 09 actually) and did well my push to you would be to look at ERFA thyroid and see if you can get on that. With the Armour change the fillers changed to and many that did extremely well on the dextrose with the old formula did horrible on the new hike with MCC filler with it. ERFA thyroid is about as close to the Old processing as it comes on a distribution process.
Avatar f tn The compound pharmacy in my area has Armour but I live in PA. I would try what Rachel suggested.
535882 tn?1396576685 anyone on compounded pharmacy thyroid . because of the shortage of Armour/naturalthroid? how do you like it?
Avatar f tn call your local pharmacy and ask who is prescribing lots of synthroid or maybe even ask who is prescribing armour and nature throid. the guys who are prescribing armour and nature throid are probably more well versed on thyroid than those just prescribing synthroid. If you don't have any luck with that, call a compound pharmacy in your area and ask who they recommend. THis is a good way to find a good practitioner in your area. I found my dr. this way and love her.
Avatar f tn Armour is a "natural" compound of hormones made by grinding up pig thyroids and refining it to make replacement hormones for people. It contains T4 and T3, which differs from synthetic hormones that only provide T4. Many people want to take Armour because it is natural and the perception is that natural is better than synthetic. SOME people benefit from Armour because the T3 in it boosts the concentration of T3 in their system.
535882 tn?1396576685 Whats the possible problems with using 2 different brands or a combo of compound plus a brand of natural thyroid short term to get over a shortage of a brand of thyroid being available???? any thoughts on this?
Avatar n tn We have to keep in mind that this forum is world wide. So its helpful to list your location. So- some questions for you. What country did you get this? I have never heard of P-Thyroid in the US as a prescription thyroid hormone replacement med. What kind of a doctor prescribed this for you? Is this really a prescription from a pharmacy? Or an on the shelf supplement product containing dessicated thyroid purchased from a health food nutritional store?.
1369218 tn?1282423884 I just started taking armour about 3 months ago. My doc found inflammation of my thyroid but my blood work was high normal. She wanted to try and lower it a bit to see if that would help. Taking the armour helped my thyroid to become a lot lesser tender and it didn't have as much aching pain. After about 8 weeks on the 1/2 grain she increased it to another 1/4 grain (45 mg total). I became wired, sore and unable to get a good night sleep.
Avatar f tn As I said in another thread, I wish you well with your surgery. Curious: Your husband will eventually be going to a dr, won't he? Armour Thyroid, like all the other thyroid meds, needs continuous follow-up bloodwork. So with that, he'll have to see a dr. Good luck with everything, really.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I cant find armour except at a compound pharmacy. It scares me that there is a shortage on the main ingrediant in armour and not one pharmacy has the armour but the compound pharmacy can make it!! I think im afraid to take it.. Its not really ringing, but more like water running really loud..
393685 tn?1425812522 I'm so glad I saw this, as I was wondering why suddenly my symptoms were returning! It felt like the beginning before I started taking armour. Huge exhaustion and bloating are the biggest symptoms. Also, had a blood test and I'm more hypo again, even though I'm taking armour thyroid. I'm surpirsed my naturopath didn't know about the formula change. Will definitly consider switching to nature-throid.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Was put on a compound of t4 only (prior to the TT i tried everything and it made me sick). The compound seems to be tolerable. Speaking in TSH terms only, it went from 30 to 125! then 90, then 55, and now its at 20.20 but I am having to take 235mcg of t4. My question to you is, is it within norm for a person to be on 250, 275 or even 300mcg before the levels get to where they need to be? My grocery store pharmacist says that I am on a very large dose.
1401696 tn?1280838616 I hate to tell you this but Naturethroid went to a different process too - similiar to the Armour thyroid change. In fact, almost identical. The filler by-component MCC is what's making people less responsive to the NT hormones for hypothyroidism In the beginning you may find increased wellness but could crash again down the road. If all else fails and this happens. You do have choices besides Canadian thyroid.
393685 tn?1425812522 I heared that natural thyroid meds contain in addition to the thyroid hormones an irrelevant compounds and proteins which can be harmful !?
535882 tn?1396576685 As for the question about switching meds, as a patient - I did have trouble switching from Synthroid to Armour. After all this time - now on desiccated thyroid hormone - I am fine, but I think I had a hard time b/c of being so seriously ill while on Synthroid.
Avatar f tn Mine went up because there was no armour thyroid and the pharmacy made a substitute that is not working for me. She wants me off all my T3 and T4 and just on a mostly iodine glandular and amiono acid compound for a few weeks before going back on T3 I find that scary since I am already crashing any comments are appreciated.
Avatar f tn The ingredient is Thyroid Extract USP powder which is the same thyroid extract used in Armour Thyroid tablets. A compounding pharmacist makes up the prescription in store. I could see the powder through the clear capsule.
606423 tn?1271824088 Are you happy with the new Armour formulation? I guess they changed their formulation or something along thos lines and thats why there is a shortage. A lot of us have switched to other natural brands such as Westhroid and Naturethroid.
