Armour thyroid and vitamins

Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid and vitamins

armour-thyroid

Avatar n tn Yes. You can take multi-vitamins. Armour thyroid has been around a long time and many physicians consider it superior to synthroid. As to "what brand of vitamin is best" that is a "how many angels are on the head of a pin" question. Purchasing vitamins in a store specializing in supplements, rather than an ordinary drugstore, will give you a better product selection.
Avatar f tn I am 48, female. I am hypo and diagnosed with hashi. I am on 30 grain armour and 1/2 5 grain cytomel. Labs us were tsh 9.7/ free t 3 2.8/ free t 4 .95. My doc is trying to treat my adreanal glands (completed adrenal hormone test, ion profile and alcat testing. I am unable to take anything he prescribes because I get very dizzy and brain fog although I exercise and eat healthy. I have been on synthroid in the past but I am also dealing with hairloss, synthroid does not help.
Avatar f tn Major symptoms were hair loss, extreme fatigue and exhaustion and leg pain. PCP says that leg pain is NOT coming from thyroid. Levels are normal and would not increase synthroid. Found a doc who switched me to armour. Within a week or so the fatigue and exhaustion improved. In the first couple of weeks on armour leg pain seemed to only come late at night and when I wake up on the morning. Leg pain now seems to linger all day and seems to have gotten worse. Energy level is good.
Avatar m tn t benefit from Synthroid - you are very lucky your found Synthroid to work best for you - it is the thyroid drug of choice and many doctors will not continue Armour if you need to change to someone else. Go back to what works - and the question is still ot there - Why did you try it if Synthroid was working?
Avatar f tn I have been hypo for 15 years. I get dizzy and brain fog with meds and vitamins. So I take vitamins every other day which seems to help. I am currently on 2 grain of nature thyroid, I just started in hopes that it would stop these symptoms. WE will see. When my labs have been normal in the past I still had the dizziness. If I lessen the dosage it seems to help a little. My most recent labs are 6.89 tsh / .68 t4's / 2.8 t3's.
Avatar m tn Thanks Barb. That is really helpful advice since I take Armour Thyroid and need to take Vitamin D as well since my levels are low especially in the winter.
Avatar f tn Hi, Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you, only some suggestions. Did you try to take any vitamins, like the Bs, vitamin C, multi? I use to take Levothyroxine before, that's mostly T4, then I switched to Armour, that's mostly T3, now I take a combination of 75mcg of Synthroid and 60mcg or Armour and so far so good. Maybe a combination of the two can help you. You should ask the doctor.
Avatar f tn Just started taking one grain of Armour for low thyroid. Also started red yeast rice and dish oil for high bad cholesterol. Having heartburn and don't know if it's from Armour, red yeast rice and fish oil or all of the above. I take Armour first thing in the morning. Any help would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn t think it will affect you. I take a multi with Iodine and my doc also has me on iodine drops to boost my thyroid. I also have Hashi's and am taking Armour. My last lab results since starting to take iodine were better. It did boost my numbers. You should be fine.
Avatar m tn Try taking 1,000 IU of Vitamin D a day and 400 mg of Magnesium Glycinate or Taurate twice a day, take vitamins and minerals four hours after or before Armour, always take Armour 1 hour before food, and no Soy, also make sure to read the label on the vitamins and don't by a brand with soy as an ingredient with any Vitamins. The Vitamin D and Magnesium will help with muscle issues.
Avatar n tn I take a mulitvitamin, iodine and a thyroid support vitamin in the morning and I have to take these four hours after my thyroid pills.
Avatar f tn Get more tests--decide how you want to handle the immune system problem--and take vitamins at least four hours after your thyroid medications.
Avatar m tn Hi Gimel, I was on levothyroixine 25mcg and 90 Armour for 2 weeks and I was still feeling hypothyroid. So I started on 50mcg Synthroid and 90 Armour for the next 2 weeks .At the same time I started to cut all the bad carbs in my diet and do 3 days per week intermittent fasting ( 18 hours fast and 2 meals a day). I lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks and started to feel a little hyper at this point.
219609 tn?1210348114 Like all the rest, foods/drinks (and coffee), vitamins, and other drugs, take Welchol hours away from your thyroid medication. Welchol can make it harder for your body to absorb certain other medications, including levothyroxine/Synthroid. So as long as you take them both far apart from each other, you should be fine. Low Vitamin D, did you tell the doctor? Will you be taking supplements to build up your low V-D, I presume.
Avatar f tn I'm a proponent of Armour thyroid. I've taken the synthetic stuff for 10 years with nothing but negative results. I've suffered from depression and panic attacks during that ten year span and the only thing I've found that works is a combination of brewer's yeast and Armour thyroid. DON’T EVER take the synthetic thyroid, it’s worthless and should be banned.
Avatar f tn 1 grain Armour = 60mg. Armour is made up at compounding pharmacies and is not covered under the PBS. Only by prescription. Google: compounding pharmacy Melbourne.
Avatar n tn The high calcium may need further evaluation -- if the PTH is normal but >30 then it is inappropriately normal and likely primary hyperparathyroidism. Armour is not a weight loss medication. It is important to avoid hyperthyroidism with any thyroid medication, so would continue to monitor TSH. The B vitamins may help, won't hurt. No good data on the MATF - in general, would not recommend any "thyroid supplements" without carefully reviewing ingredients with your doctor.
606423 tn?1271824088 re spacing those vitamins and supplements at least 4 hours after you take the armour..they can interfere with absorbtion. I can only take guesses now, until you post your labs with ranges.
Avatar n tn t do well on T4 drugs alone (thyroxin) have major improvements when adding a T3 drug like Cytomel or Armour. I have problems using any synthetics so use Armour only (tried synthetics and have had major complications). Unfortunately a lot of doctors are given bad information that you don't need T3 drugs or that Armour is bad so if you come across that find a new doctor who will allow you to try it. Every person is different and if you can't even try something how will you ever know.
205009 tn?1218559728 My PCP is great and prescribes a lot of holistic care products for me (vitamins, etc.) Hence the Armour Thyroid (natural). Unfortunately not all of them can be written as prescription and they can be dang expensive! So she has kindly narrowed the list down and prescribed a whammy of a Vitamin D pill that should get me back on track there. I wish I could get movign in the morning to get my workout in. I am very very not a morning person.
Avatar n tn Any thyroid med is meant to be taken when you wake up and start your day. Many people on Armour take about 2/3 to 3/4 of their daily med in the morning, then take the remainder mid day. I hope your doctor did not tell you to take it before bed. Taking Armour at night is not advised and kind of pointless really. Thyroid hormone gives you the energy you need in your daytime hours that untreated Hypothyroid people lack.
499534 tn?1328704178 I am going to a new endo doctor this coming Friday and am looking forward to the appointment. This one is supposed to be one of the best in Colorado and they do understand Armour Thyroid. So...I am feeling that there is hope and that I will be able to trust an endo doc again. I still feel some hypo symptoms, so I know I'm not on my optimum dose yet and thank goodness I have my hubbie to remind me about the patience I need.
Avatar f tn , Here are other Foods NOT TO EAT recommendations for Thyroid Sufferers CERTAIN VEGETABLES AND NUTS While vegetables supply valuable amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber, certain varieties may hinder thyroid function. For this reason, the University of Maryland Medical Center suggests avoiding cruciferous vegetables, such as cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, turnips, cassava, soybeans and mustard greens.
Avatar f tn Avoid magnesium carbonate, sulfate, gluconate, and oxide. They are poorly absorbed (and the cheapest and most common forms found in supplements). Side effects from too much magnesium include diarrhea, which can be avoided if you switch to magnesium glycinate. Most minerals are best taken as a team with other minerals in a multi-mineral formula. Taking a hot bath with Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is a good way to absorb and get much needed magnesium.
