Common Questions and Answers about Armour thyroid and headaches

armour-thyroid

Avatar f tn Increased dose of Armour to 30 mg for a month - retested and was down to 6. Started 60 mg of Armour 2 weeks ago and have had a sinus type headache behind the eyes since 3rd day of 60 mg. Since i was waking up with the headache a good deal of the time and Advil was just taking the edge off - I thought it might be sinus - since I have had that in the past. Tried a Z-pak which I finished 4 days ago - still having headaches and burny eyes but not quite as severe.
393685 tn?1425812522 Its weird, Cytomel gave me never ending headaches, but Armour and this generic equivilant I found called Major Thyroid does not give me any headaches! I cant wait for our Nature-Throid to get cought up, as I have lost trust in the Armour brand. What I found on Bovine: In the US it seems bovine is only in non prescription, non- FDA regulated thyroid support 'supplements' that I found available on the internet.
Avatar n tn when her meds were changed her TSH, T4 and T3 (and probably some other levels) changed and caused the headaches, etc. Then she went back on Armour but her levels are different now so she still has the headaches, etc. Question: Did she have any bloodwork done? Do you know the results? If you do post them and someone who's good with tests will help you.
Avatar n tn 5 mcg cytomel and 8 drops of Lugols solution for treatment of thyroid nodules. I have more energy, sleep better, but am having regular frontal headaches and my eye ache and itch. It's hard to know if I am taking too much or too little, since the symptoms can be the same! Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn 5. Began taking 60 mg Armour on July 1 (10 days ago and have had sinus type headaches behind eyes every day. Saw Dr. - said it didn't look like sinus - will check my levels in a few more days. Don't feel the fatigue but these headaches are lousy - I don't usually have headaches. Could it be adjustment to Armour or perhaps the dose it too high for me?
Avatar n tn I just had surgery and took hydrocodone. I am on synthroid and cytomel for my thyroid. No problems noted. Hydrocodone on the other hand is a whole new set of problems if you start taking those every day. No thanks.....I would look at a different avenue. The narcotic pain meds are too addictive physically and psychologically.
581310 tn?1253029550 Jo, I had the headaches before going on the armour and they actually went away when I started the Armour. I don't think it's the Armour but just that my dose isn't where I need to be. What are you taking now and is it working well?
Avatar f tn I am 20 weeks pregnant and currently taking 1 grain of armour thyroid (which I have been on for over 20+ years and have done well on - I had a short spell on levo and had terrible hypo symptoms). I had a thyroid panel at around 6 weeks and test results were all normal. I went back in for another test since I've been feeling tired and getting headaches (similar to when hypo) and concerned over the recent reformulation of armour. My TSH came back as 1.31 up from 0.60 at the 6 week test.
Avatar f tn I am on 15 grams of Armour thyroid and the only side effect that I have had is a little bit of sweating..I am also in menopause so I am not sure if this is why I am sweating more or the Armour. No other side effects thus far. I was on synthroid and it nearly took all of my hair out. I hated it.I kept asking the doctor about it and he was saying that it was nothing they could do because synthroid was the best medication to take.
Avatar n tn Hey there, my daughter is 9 (110lbs.) and has no thyroid gland and is on 3 grains of Naturethroid now, and doing great! Before that, she had been on 2 grains of Armour, but forced to switch due to reformulation of Armour brand and sudden hypo symptoms with a drop in t4 that Armour reformulation caused her. Before going with dessicated thyroid 8 months ago however ,she was on 100mcg Synthroid daily.
744962 tn?1270942038 Greetings to all I am hypo then was put onto 100mg Thyroxin per day and later also 125mg of Armour - months I told the dr Armour is not working for me - my legs and abdominal area is swollen and feels as if I am retaining a lot of water. Later dosage was dropped to 40mg of Armour and 50 Thyroxin - I felts awful for a long time. Armour was removed in July and then I was on 50mg of Thyroxin and 20mg of Cytomel for T3. Slowly started feeling a bit better yet still tired.
Avatar m tn In the USA at least, all hormones including thyroid hormone(s) T4 (Synthroid) and T3 (Cytomel) and Any natural desiccated thyroid med like Armour require doctor Prescription. To dose thyroid you absolutely need to be tested for at a minimum Free T4 and Free T3 tests. Typically people need to be at least in the middle of the reference range for BOTH thyroid hormones if not a bit higher int he range.
Avatar f tn if i get too much thyroid medicine i will get terrible headaches..armour did that because it is way too high in T3. Some people do ok on it but some need to add levoxyl or levothroid. I dont like syndroid. I think it is a terrible thyroid medication. It cause your hair to fall out very badly! I did take valerian root capsules or gels -2-3 pills for the migraine because excedrin would not work. Try valerian root capsules. I hope you feel better!
Avatar m tn Been on tirosint 112 mcg for about 3 weeks after being taking off armour thyroid. These symptoms I get every morning a couple of hours after taking medicine. Headache, neck pain, leg cramps, warm weird feeling in face, some tightness in throat. I've been having a hard time with most thyroid meds. not sure why but the doctors not sure either. It also messes with my appetite and sometimes causes nausea and vomiting depending on how bad the headaches get.
Avatar f tn Im hypothyroid, last test has showed I have high RT3 so I switched from 130mcg synthroid and 1 grain armour TO 15 mcg Cytomel and 1 grain armour. I also did cortisol saliva test which shows im LOW in cortisol cortisol morning. 2.6 ng/ml. normal range. 3.7-9.5 >cortisol noon 2. ng/ml. normal range. 1.2-3.0 >cortisol evening. 1.1. normal range. 0.6-1.9 >cortisol night. 0.2. normal range. 0.4-1 the problem is I keep gaining weight, i have headaches, tired, feel like I have cold.
Avatar f tn Synthroid (along with Lexoxyl and generics), which contains only T4. Armour (and other desiccated porcine thyroid products) contain both T3 and T4. Some people need that extra T3, some don't. It's partly a matter of personal preference and partly what works best for you, preference aside. You've already had TSH test at 800, so that is a very firm indicator of hypothyroidism. Your symptoms are also classic hypo symptoms. Be sure to ask your doctor for FREE T3 and FREE T4.
Avatar n tn Its been my experience that nothing helped me either. I found a doctor that put me on ARMOUR thyroid and I became human again. The doc has to take things slow with you due to your age. I am 60 and they rushed me on synthroid and levothyroxine and almost killed me. Once I switched to Armour which is all natural, I became normal with in a few days.
Avatar f tn I have been up and down. I am currently on 60mgs of Armour. 30 in the morning and 30 by 1pm. I just had labs done last week to see where I am number wise.. I was on Synthroid but didnt take. I was on 88mcg. What is that equivalent to with the Armour? Could I be in the right dose? Looking forward to making some new friends that can relate!
Avatar n tn I am a 52 year old female, diagnosed last year with Hashimoto's (TSH at diagnosis was 6.61). Strangely, at age 23, I was diagnosed with Graves disease (had a goiter and T3 and T4 "through the roof" - treated by family doctor with beta blockers and "let's wait and see" and within 8 months, thyroid was back to normal. and stayed normal throughout the years, until my Hashimoto's diagnosis last year). Started on Levoxyl 100 mg - didn't help me one bit.
Avatar f tn Hi I am on armour thyroid 180mg my previous tsh was 5.4 it is now 0.043 and my Dr increased my armour now to 180 daily with a additional 60 every other day. I started off Hypo? now it appears I am hyper right? why would I be given more armour?
Avatar f tn so i take sixty mg of armour thyroid a day... but i still have headaches and tired... i know its my adrenals... it has to be .. because when i take the medicine i should not feel worse... if anyone has any suggestions or anything please let me know... and when i take licorice root i feel better but that doesnt always work.. im so tired of this damn problem .. i have lost ten years of my life to it... im ready to give up..
Avatar n tn Usually increases are needed in Armour patients and thyroid patients who take Armour benefit greatly by splitting their dosages throughout the day,
Avatar m tn I am currently taking (180 mg.) Armour Thyroid and have symptoms of low thyroid such as dry skin, red palms, cold, high blood pressure, skin rashes, headaches, low temp.. How high can your T3 go and still be safe and also is anyone out there taking more than 180 mg. Armour Thyroid..
533880 tn?1237612452 even when my levels were regulated, I still had lots of aches and pains. I switched to armour thyroid and it has made a huge difference in how I feel, lots more energy, less brain fog, no joint problems. I also take lugols solution iodine, many thyroid problems are caused from a deficiency of iodine. Iodine has taken away all my heart palps. and seems to be helping my double vision.
