Avatar n tn And it is always more painful when I lay down and when I wake up in the morning. I am going to try doing some arm and neck exercises since I don't know what else to do at this point. I will let you know if this helps and if you find something that helps, please let me know. ***@**** Thank you!
Avatar m tn The Doc gave me a nice plate with nine screws. Now I am very numb in a large area under the incision and it is burning and throbbing. This seems to have gotten worse after week two. I expected some pain from this procedure but this seems to be nerve related. Has anyone had experience with anything like this? I can deal with it if I know it will get better in time but I'm starting to get concerned.

Avatar m tn Buy some five-pound weights, or use soup cans, to build arm strength. Go for a half-hour walk every day around the neighborhood. Climb the steps in your house or appartment five times. Because you don't exercise, you'll start seeing improvement right away just by getting up and moving around. There are also "office exercises", things that you could do while watching TV, for example. Suck in your stomach tight, hold for ten seconds, and release---do this ten times in one sitting.
521161 tn?1212369304 I had the TFCC tear and ulna shorteing, with the plate put in my arm. Surgery was in Jan 2011, I am still in constant pain, physical therapy and have a tens unit. The tens unit actually helps the pain but does not take the pain away. My Dr says it can take a year or longer to heal. My arm and wrist are stiff like a board every morning when I get up. I have pain and swelling all the time, and my hand does not work well, I drop things all the time.
Avatar m tn I don't think you can fix these problems on your own, although you may be able to try some methods of pain control that will lessen your subjective complaints. You can try doing some strengthening exercises, take over the counter anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil or Aleve, and use warm heat to the affected areas. Water therapy (pool exercises usually offered through your local YMCA) is another option.
98010 tn?1305903335 I have been exercising for two weeks straight. power walking, jogging, tennis, weight and resistant training. Cut down on my eating. eat really healthy. Sometimes I splurge out, but I don't go crazy. I even don't eat if not hungry. I drink a lot of water now as well. I have actually put on weight. My clothes don't fit. I have put 2cm on butt, 4 cms on waist and 2 cms on thighs. I don't get it,. Why??? Is there an underlying problem I wonder?
228463 tn?1216765121 Can somone tell the trick-or-treaters to come early to get rid of all this candy in my house? My husband, who actually has will-power, opened the bag and I feel like I grab something every time I walk by it! I will have to buy more on Halloween!
Avatar n tn I have had neck and shoulder pain now for about 17 months now after my C5-6 fusion with plate screw and cadavar bone. THe surgery took care of my arm and finger pain, but left me with the feeling that now my head is too heavy for my neck to support it. The only relief I have is when I lay down and when I prop my head up with my hand. It feels like constant deep muscle pain, with some burning. THis stinks, it has changed almost everything I do, which these days is not much.
131817 tn?1209532911 Since I know her and her staff, perhaps I can help give her our messages. The more the better. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn A little over a year ago, I had C5-6 fused. With a plate and screws inserted. Since then I am having trouble with pain in the neck and shoulder area just below the fusion area. I wake in the morning with a headache then turns to pain in lower neck and shoulders. I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist.
147426 tn?1317269232 Climbing back into the saddle: what is on your plate this week? Monday I need to get appointments with ENT and Uro-GYN. My face still feels like one giant big boil in the TMJ and the incontinence is so severe it is actually funny. Thursday I see another orthopod for a second opinion on my right ankle. When did the posterior tibial mallealor fracture happen and do I need any special PT for the ongoing feeling of instability and pain.
Avatar m tn He does not do torics with traditional surgery because the results are so much better with laser and the Optiwave Refractive Analysis (ORA) System to insure correct placement and power of the lens. He uses Verifeye, which is the new version of ORA and says it give excellent results. But would probably need glasses for reading and intermediate (computer distance) vision. Accommodative Toric lenses, Crystalens Trulign.
Avatar n tn I am now on oxygen at night because my o2 levels dropped when I sleep....Don't let them give up....Fight the power..Hahahha....I can I can is the motto...Not I can't or won't....I said I can't because it is frustrating to start learning to talk and walk again....a lot of mental effort for sure... I "am" a survivor....God Bless the caregivers too !!!! A sometimes thankless job..
Avatar n tn I didn't have to get surgery but I had like exercises I had to do everyday so I didn't loose movement in that finger. Just last month I got full movement back...so it could take a while. Hope all goes well!
Avatar n tn It is deadly! I was told that it was because I did too many abd exercises while pregnant, and I have seperated my muscles. When activated too much, they spasm up. I was told it COULD go away, but it has been 7 years for me now, and it still hasn't, so I don't have my hopes up anymore. I just sloooowly work away at it, and stop when I feel something coming... OUCH! though eh?
Avatar n tn im sure i sound like a broken record to many readers, but your problem may have nothing to do with your spine at all--especially since you had decompression and you are unchanged. Going to PT and DOING PT are totally different. there are postural exercises and stretches for your problem (tight traps and shoulder pain) that patients need to do many times DAILY for months before their efficacy can be judged.
Avatar n tn unrelenting pain - taking Tylenol #3, numbness in right shoulder/arm/hand - pain in shoulder/upper arm, pain along necck in various places - X-rays show: Reverse cervical curve and upper cervical certebrae curve to the right, 20 degrees - altho I have been seeing a chiropractor to try to staighten that part out out - the reverse cervical curve was evident at age 26, when I first had neck problems (the bike accident happened at age 20) The chiro looked at my MRI results yesterday and told me a
Avatar f tn I know it's difficult for him. He is so patient and knows I have a lot on my plate. I have my #3 chemo tomorrow, we have toddlers (29 mos & 17mos), & the anniversary of my moms passing is 11/14 (2yrs). I miss her and I hate that she's not here with me. We always want our mommy when we're sick right? I lost my 22 yr old sister in 2001 and my dad in 2002 before that.
Avatar f tn Only thing is that now I have developed tinnitus in my R ear that gets worse when I pull my chin back or when I push against my forehead. I do my exercises when I feel the idling sensation but don't really think it is working after 3 weeks. I have woken up the past 3 days now exhausted despite a full nights sleep. It feels like something is flaring up again. I called the neurologist today and he is starting me on gabapentin, which I filled and am researching online tonight.
Avatar f tn I have been given weights and I have to do arm weights and strengthening exercises at least 6 to 10 times a day. I also have a loan chair at the moment and I have to practice by wheeling myself around the ward a few times a day (people scatter when they see me coming). The doctor has warned me that when I get home, there will be days when I won't be able to get out of bed and that I need to take extra doses of relaxants and sleep until my muscles relax then try again.
Avatar n tn Like all things, it varies with the individual. My personal ideas of exercises do not match the mainstream ideas of cardio/resp balance, so I won't comment on those exercise programs. You might try different exercises. When you exercise a muscle group in the same way all the time, the body can "get used" to the exercise.
Avatar f tn It went to entire left arm, then right upper, and entire right arm, and this year it extends to my shoulders. It is the worst torture, and makes an otherwise happy and laid back person very irritable, frustrated and tired! I do not know what to do. I am not menopausal, but I am 36 years old, and am pregnant with my first child (less than a week to go!) so can not take meds or get an MRI, but am going to a neurologist asap and will ask for MRI after baby is born.
Avatar n tn A Schmorl's node by defitinition is basically a centralized disk herniation in which the cartilaginous end plate of the vertebral body has sustained fracturing and there was injection of disk material into this fracturing of the end plate. Thus, a Schmorl's node is a form of disk herniation. It is linked to trauma at some point in a person's life. Some people do get them in the teen years when playing sports.
Avatar n tn Now he's on a regular diet and feeds himself at all meals. 4. Unfortunately, his right arm is still very weak BUT he does have feeling in the arm and can move the shoulder/arm but can't move the fingers, wrist or lift the arm yet. We remain hopeful!
Avatar f tn Since that time, I still am having problems with swelling on the side where surgery was done. I also have some pain. I was not told to do any therapy exercises and wondered if they might help. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I have a lump on my underarm. It is not painful but it is ugly and it makes me very self conscious. When I got pregnant it really got big and filled with milk my doctor said it was breaast tissue that traveled into my armpit and that as long as it didn't hurt it really wasn't anything to worry about. It just looks like extra baggy skin and as a result I can't wear sleeveless tops. I've never known anyone else who has this to ask what they think or feel.
446896 tn?1237806342 I think one of the best things to do is get really healthy- eat low sodium foods etc. This seems to give a sense of power over this area.
Avatar n tn I looking at a pill that contain glucosamine, boswellia, devils claw, turmeric, and ginger. I'm also reading about Mona-vie Active, a power juice also with glucosamine. has anyone gone down this path? Really want to keep skating.
Avatar n tn As long as I do not use my right side too much the pain stays away. Physio seems to enhance the numbness. I seem to improve more by doing some back strengthening exercises & doing as much in a day as I feel able. I am not able to go to work which I miss very much. Anyway I am hoping my Dr. will give me a referral to a spine clinic that I have heard good things about. What geographic location are you in? Are you on any meds & if so are they helping? Take care.
