What I found interesting, was that after looking at my favorite top 5, increase and decrease in libido was not even mentioned although they were quick to note side effects such as depression, vaginal dryness and legathy.
Even the official website for Arimidex itself and the "largest known site for the most comprehensive list of side effects" doesn't touch libido...at all.

However, women taking this medication tell a different story.

Don't forget Arimidex is an Estrogen Inhibitor, that should give you a clue on what to expect.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it was approved by my doc. The joint pain and hot flashes were much worse as well. I'm getting handfuls of hair every day in the bathtub drain. I am concerned that the hair loss is irreversible or may not grow back until I am finished with Arimidex. What I have read is the jury is still out if it's permanent or not, and I haven't read anything about going from one AI to another. I learned that Aromasin and Arimidex are quite different.
m not sure why certain doctors still deny hair loss as a possible side effect of chemo and the AIs (as well as other side effects like severe bone and/or joint pain, etc.) but that's why a community forum such as this is so valuable--information about various txs is shared among women "who have been there," not just doctors who write prescriptions...
I don't have any practical ideas to help you; just want to know my heart aches for you.
Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.
It is of course her decision re whether lowering the risk in her case is worth enduring the side effects. If she does choose to take an AI and the side effects of Arimidex are intolerable, she could see if she would do better on a different one. However, in at least one recent study, Arimidex came out ahead of the others in preventing recurrence.

Some women switch between the two drugs depending on the side effects they experience,often women will tolerate one better than the other.. but these two drugs are very similar and both can have similar side effects.
I am actually on Arimidex ( almost 2 years) and so far it hasn't been too bad.
I have heard of woman who felt better with Femara...so it really depends on how a person can tolerate one drug over the other.
I hope that Femara will work better for you.

m not sure if it was just a mistake or if you intentionally made this a poll between Arimidex and its side effects, or breast cancer. If so, only your vote counts. You are the only one who can decide what is the best decision for you.

My friend has been taking Arimidex for two years and has all the usual side effects--hot flashes, muscle aches, lack of sleep but, in spite of all her exercising and walking and careful eating, all of the weight gain has been in her stomach and she is at a loss of what to do to lose it. Nothing seems to work and she's very unhappy with that particular location? Anyone else know of weight gain from the drug at that spot specifically?
I saw a Professor of Endocrinology in Feb 2008, referred by my bc surgeon, as this guy has an academic interest in side effects of Arimidex. He suggested I continue with Arimidex and Fosamax to prevent further bone loss, but I cannot stand the pain and disturbance to my sleep.
Does anyone have any experience of stopping Arimidex and getting a different med that does not have the side effect of bone pain?
No personal experience here but after a drug is discontinued it takes various lengths of time for the side effects to subside. You should keep in mind that even though most of the drugs in that class have the same side effects BUT not everyone will experience them all OR to the same degree. Only the switch will tell you how Arimidex will affect you.
