Arimidex bone pain

Common Questions and Answers about Arimidex bone pain

arimidex

Avatar f tn I have been on both drugs together - Arimidex for 4 yrs, Fosamax for 3 yrs. I stopped the Arimidex 4 wks ago but have continued with weekly Fosamax. The bone pain in my hip and foot has diminished considerably, although I still have shooting pains in both thumbs and 1st 2 fingers. I am a little confused as to your advice......when you say "a possible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together WITH bone protective agents...", which 2 drugs are you referring to?
Avatar n tn t any osteoporous Femara causes swelling and bone pain I switch to Arimidex after being off Femara for 2 weeks and am not having the pain. Please look in to Femara side effects and possible changeing to another drug. I even was in physical therapy for two months because I thought it was me but no it was the drug..
Avatar n tn I have endometriosis stage 4, I had 2 surgeries in 2006, and my surgeon is putting me on Armidex to try to control the pain. Is this a common use for this medicine?
Avatar n tn However, 4 yrs down the line, I stopped it 4 weeks ago, due to severe bone pain (hips, hands and feet) and the pain has gone! I still feel I need protection for at least another year so am seeing a new Oncologist (mine retired last year) soon for evaluation and hope she will prescribe either Femara or Aromasin. All the AI's affect bone density, tamoxifen doesn't and before starting one of these you should have a DEXA bone density scan for a baseline. It is a difficult decision I know.
107366 tn?1305680375 Are any of you on Aromasin, Femara, Tamoxifen, or Arimidex experiencing joint/bone pain? If so, do you find it getting worse the longer you are on it? I finally got off IV chemo in favor of taking AI's because IV chemo was doing too much damage and I needed a break. My cancer is highly estrogen positive so AI's seem to be the choice for me at the moment (I actually have Ovarian cancer, not Breast Cancer.
Avatar n tn My Oncologist has told me that every women she has treated for the same also complain about bone pain on the site where the radiation took place. What is the reason for this? Could it be a weakening of the bone structure due to the medicine, or did the radioation cause it? Thanks, R.K.
Avatar m tn I saw your post about Amiridex I know it's from 2012 but can you tell me if you ended up letting your son take it? If so were there unwanted side effects. My sons endocronologist wants to put him on Amiridex to slow his bone aging so he has more time to grow before he finishes puberty. Can you tell me anything about what you learned.
Avatar n tn insitu underwent lumpectomy left breast with lympnodes removed 1 positive, had 33 radiation treatment and am taking Arimidex.
Avatar f tn My Son has bone age of 14.6 and just started arimidex to delay growth plate fusion. How long can arimidex delay fusion?
1446961 tn?1284577797 i have taken it for 10 months and it has destroyed my knees, i cannot walk without cruches and am in extreme pain all the time. before starting on this drug I had a bone scan and my bones were fine. jocie 28a xx love and best wishes to all out there. This discussion is related to Arimidex has caused my hip to degenerate.
Avatar n tn After some 4 yrs on the AI the pain in my left hip, both feet and hands has become unbearable and my GP advised me to stop Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished. It has thankfully, so I believe Arimidex was the culprit. I see him next week and hope he will refer me to a new female Oncologist at my hospital, who has an interest in both bc and gastro, as I have weekly injections of methotrexate for Crohn's.

503702 tn?1276176714 I could not take femara to much bone pain. I am taking Arimidex but am currently in remission am taking it because I was positive for estrogen and braca 1 patient. good luck on the femara i know someone who took femara and Lupon shot and controlled her cancer for 2 years.
Avatar f tn ve completed 4 cycles of Taxotere and Cytoxan. I have been on Arimidex for 4 months. What might be my chances of a distant metastasis? I have pre-osteopenia per a bone density. My oncologist said I might consider Zometa infusions which would be given every 6 months. Does it only help prevent bone metastasis or other mets as well? I know the research is still out on this but an early study indicated a greater than 30% reduction in risk of bone mets. That seems substantial.
Avatar n tn t be reached even for a biopsy to be taken the Arimidex cleared it by the next scan (6 months). I should point out that Arimidex was the only medication I was taking, no other treatment. The only reason my cancer has now returned is because a relief GP gave me the results of a bone scan and found that I had osteoporosis so she took me off it and by the time I saw my oncologist (another 6 months) the cancer had returned and metasized in my intestines and spine and ribs. Great fun!
562511 tn?1285904160 She has endured treatment well enough until she began taking Arimidex. She is having a lot of knee pain. Her low bone density puts her at risk for fracture but she is very afraid of the side effects of the medications used to increase bone density and flat out refuses those types of meds. At present time, she is taking Vitamin D and Calcium. Is there something else she can take to increase her bone density besides the commonly used drugs now marketed for increasing bone density?
Avatar n tn t really understand that it could have actually prevented my recurrence. It did cause a similiar bone pain to the carbo/taxol I had done. For that reason I quit taking it. There are doctors also using one now called Femara. Maybe one of those would work for you.
Avatar n tn This drug can cause decrease in bone density and bone mass leading to osteoporosis and sometimes increased tendency to have fractures. If standard pain medications are not helping with these symptoms, I believe that you may discuss with your doctor regarding shifting to a different drug class such as tamoxifen (though tamoxifen has a different side effect profile, mainly from cardiac and vascular side effects).
Avatar f tn Hi - don't let it continue - I have suffered for 4 yrs now with after chemo/rads and Arimidex, and stopped the Arimidex 4 weeks ago. Joint pains have miraculously gone. Seeing an Oncologist soon for alternarive meds, Aromasin or Femara. I could only sleep 2 hours before being woken up by the pain in my left hip - bone scan and DEXa scan showed osteo arthritis and bone density loss, but don't believe they could cause such debilitating pain...and I have been proved right.
Avatar n tn I'm on Aromasin which is another of the AI treatments. I've also taken tamoxifen and almost made it to the two year mark with that. The way my onco explained it to me was, taking two years of tamoxifen didn't just offer protection to me for the two years I took it but it also paid two years forward. I had almost every side effect on tamoxifen EXCEPT another cancer. The incidence of another cancer with tamoxifen is RARE while the benefits are well known.
Avatar f tn hot flashes mostly. (Women who took 20 mg .. once a day .. had bone pain, etc.). If you go on Arimidex .. keep this in mind .. Good luck and God Bless ..
