Avatar n tn You are supposed to take your body weight divide that in half and drink that much in OZ every day. Are you doing the dr. siem. protocal? My doctor has me drinking protien shakes (provided by them) that are 80 cal 4 times a day. And my lunch and dinner are 3.5oz meat, handful of veggies (up to 3 combo) and either apple, orange, strawberries, or 1/2 grapefruit. I cheated once and all that did is make me hungrier the next day. Keep it up i've lost 13lbs in 15 days.

This all sounds good except that this can also lead to kidney issues (even failure), osteoporosis, and kidney stones. (If you are not metabolizing your fat, you are not being "fed" so would therefore be hungry. It is your metabolized fat that is supposed to be nourishing you while on the hcg diet. The 500 calorie diet is for your fresh nutrients/protein so you don't get deficient in anything.

It takes several days or more to get back into ketosis after even one day of too many carbs. So eating too many carbs once a week could keep you almost totally out of ketosis. Gimel is right. If you are serious about this I can strongly recommend the book "diabetes solution" by Dr. Richard Bernstein, you can google this. His book explains how to safely use insulin and diet to manage blood sugars and weight. His approach is similar to Atkins, but is more finely tuned to suit people with diabetes (both types 1 and 2, insulin and non-insulin dependent).

Avatar f tn As first it is not dangerous and its not unhealthy. There are situation you can benefit to be in ketosis state and there are situation you dont. You cant just say "its unhealthy" - who says that and how did he get this information ? As i told, there is not muc hresearch on ketosis, most of the research dates decades ago and they're rly extreme while treating epylepsy and other mental diseases. For example they ate just fat, maybe 10% protein, no vegetables, no multivitamin...

Avatar f tn You can lose fat, without losing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising. You need the strength training to build the muscles that will burn the fat. But maybe, since you're under weight you don't really have fat to burn, you just need to tone your muscles? If that's the case, exercise will be the key. You might try yoga for that - works great.
Avatar n tn Plus, remember that you are adding a 1/2 c. or more of milk to that cereal and you need to add in the carb count for the milk. If you add fruit, once again you need to figure out the carbs and remember that a portion would be 1/2 of a banana or 1/4 c. of berries. The way most people eat their cereal, they are easily consuming over 100 gms. of carbs in one bowl!!!! The most you should have per meal is 45-60 gms. The low end is for women and the high end number is for men.
Avatar f tn There have been some other recent posts regarding the Atkins type diet, you might find them interesting reading. It's my understanding that this type of diet does not count calories or anything other than carbs. The general basis for losing weight is "calories in/calories out" - meaning that if you take in more calories than you expend, you will not lose weight.
Avatar n tn I didn't see this response, so this is quite late. The possible kidney damage and cardiovascular problems have been reported in research on high protein diets, not just from red meat. If it isn't long-term, when you return to your former diet you will return to your former metabolism, nothing will have changed permanently, so if you do that, you will go back to gaining weight. Only permanent dietary changes bring lasting change.
