Are protonix and nexium the same

Common Questions and Answers about Are protonix and nexium the same

protonix

Avatar f tn protonix and nexium are the same medicine. although the prefixes in pantoprozole(protonix) and esomeprazole magnesium (nexium) are different, its the suffixes that you need to look at. They are the main make-up of these drugs.
Avatar f tn write your insurance a letter stating that its the only thing that works and you have tried the other two med without the same success when our insurance refuses that always works! Good luck hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I am surprised to find so many comments about the same problem. I am having similar difficulties, but thought my irregular cycles were a sign of menopause on its way. I didn't make the connection to the nexium even though I have been taking 80 mg for the last few months and 40 mg for several months before that. I also have dizziness, lightheadedness and higher than usual blood pressure at times, but blamed it on baclofen or trazodone that I take for esophageal spasms and a cough.
Avatar f tn ) talked with your primary care doctor. If not, I suggest you do and do so in the context of the other meds you are on... prescribed by? We don't have you age, but if you are not a senior I'd consider Coumadin a rather aggressive treatment due to "lone" AFib. The aspirin may be enough protection from the unlikely formation of blood clots.
1274110 tn?1270788561 I am on plavix also and was taking nexium for gerd. My cardiologist told me to go off the nexium because the FDA has found that the nexium or any of the PPI's inhibits the plavix from working properly. I am now on pepcid instead of nexium. I am curious to find out if your cardio's had mentioned this to you. Protonix is in the same group of PPI's as nexium. Google plavix and ppi's or go on the FDA website. You will read a lot about the two meds. Just for your info.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was also diagnosed with the same thing and my Dr gave me Kapidex which is similar to Nexium. After 2 days on the pill, I starting having side effects of diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting for almost 3 days. They then switched me to Protonix which I am glad to say is working very well. So like CalGal said, it works differently with different people. Your daughter just needs to find one that works best for her. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn Anyone out there on Protonix? I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was put on Nexium which helped slightly with my burping but I was still getting stomach aches. I went for an abdominal ultrasound, endescopy and CT scan with IV contrast and all came back fine. My Dr just switched me to Protonix.
Avatar f tn The best medicines I have been prescribed are Nexium and Protonix. Protonix has a generic available so is inexpensive and works perfectly for me. Studies have shown Nexium to be consistently the most effective but it is more expensive and not always covered by every health insurance plan. United Healthcare for example does not cover Nexium.
Avatar m tn Nexium (that caused me bad abdominal cramps, fever and muscle aches) caused me the burning tongue. It seems strange to me I have got allergic to ALL the antireflux medicines. Doctors suggested me trying to take one while under cortison injection, so I did...and again, I had the same reaction!
Avatar f tn Omeprazole(prilosec), lansoprazole (prevacid), pantoprazole (protonix), rabeprazole( aciphaex) and esomeprazole(Nexium). All are of same efficacy. If there is no response to one, switching to another might be helpful. Get your doctor's opinion before changing the medications. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice.
221122 tn?1323011265 Hi, I was just looking at this forum just to get reassurance. I was just sitting at home and all of a sudden a whole run of PVC's I guess. Of course I started crying because I think I am going to die. I have been sick for the past year with what they thought was Epstein Barr that tweaked my thyroid. Anyway, I am so fatigued constantly, that I am sure that it is my heart and they have totally missed it. I had an echo, not stress done last year and it was good.
Avatar n tn my brother-in-law has cancer of the esophagus and his doctor said it could have been from the drug that he was taking and the drug was nexium. have you heard about this link of anti-acid medication to cancer?
Avatar n tn Prevacid, Nexium, Protonix, Aciphex, Zantac, and Pepcid are all used to treat reflux. You can ask you doctor who will know best which one is least likely to cause you dizzyness.
709686 tn?1277432159 But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar f tn I thought about going on without it for the next few weeks but the pain is bad and I have lost my appetite so much I could probably only eat once a day.
Avatar m tn m not sure about reflux. Protonix should only help and not cause all the problems. There are two main reasons for reflux: excess acid, or anatomic change in your stomach, which allows the leak of acid upwards into esophagus. So, for reflux, you can have barium x-ray to see how that contrast is moving, is it going backwards...This investigation is easier than endoscopy.
1479013 tn?1330699762 I am going to watch your discussion as I am interested in what the responses are as I am also starting to worry--especially since I saw that insomnia and anxiety are possible side-effects of Protonix (this was not on this sight--so not sure if true). I also something about Protonix causing B-12 deficiency and am wondering about that, as well.
Avatar f tn I tried prilosec, nexium, prevacid and now im on protonix. The only one that worked (until a month ago) was protonix. Everyone reacts differently to different drugs even though they basicaly do the same thing. As long as your not having any pain it doesn't sound like it is getting worse but i would definatley after 18 days ask your Dr to maybe try a different PPI.
Avatar m tn No wasnt xanax pulse was low before that maybe the other did it tho thanks tho...Nexium protonix and zantac done it. Probly I guess ill go back and see the doc even tho he told me i had a heart blockage and didnt cardiac cath after he told me my stress test was blockage and i was clear. Hmm maybe that did it caridac cath...
Avatar m tn to the point where I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping for breath with a mouthful of acid. I was on Aciphex first, then Protonix and now Nexium. My problem is that the back of my tongue is all white and bumpy (looks a bit like thrush). I was told that this is from the acid that has come up over the years. Is that likely? If so, is there anything I can do to remove it (treatment, over-the-counter remedy, medication, etc.)? Thanks for the help!
Avatar f tn i would try something called prilosec OTC 20 Mg omeprazole tablets, take one a day for two weeks and it should help you, it worked for me, you can get them at your local drug store for about 10 bucks, if all else fails try getting a medicinal marijuana evaluation they are about 125 to get for a year and marijuana can completely relax the proton pump in the stomach, i do a lot of evaluation on patients up here in nor cal... and let me tell you...
Avatar f tn however, he did not order a scope for the ulcer, he wanted to see how a few days of the PPI would help. The upside is that the Protonix helped with the reflux and stomach pain, the downside is the bloating and constipation. I did call him just the other night and he told me I can discontinue use of the Protonix this week because you can stop taking it 1 to 2 weeks after the symptoms go away.
