They have a biological/genetic, psychological, social and spiritual component to them. I've personally have a history of anorexia from 11-15 and have treated eating disorders for 28 years. Avatar n tn Yes - these are all autoimmune disorders, with the exception possibly of Bipolar and the Pituitary adenoma. The low B12 is suggestive of pernicious anemia. Pituitary adenomas are not typically associated with Hashimotos'. Pituitary enlargement can be seen in autoimmune pituitary disease which may be more common in Hashimotos - lymphocytic hypophysitis but this usually would result in abnormal pituitary hormones.

The last I heard they suspect a genetic link as mental illnesses do seem to run in families, but that doesn't mean that your son will definitely have it. For instance, my paternal great grandmother either had schizophrenia or bipolar type I (It's hard to determine since I never knew her and only have stories to go off of, and nothing was diagnosed since this was pre-psychiatric help being normal.).

I would recommend you get a full physical by your physician and explain to him or her your struggle with eating and feelings of fullness. It would also be wise to see a psychiatrist or psychotherapist who specializes in eating disorders for an evaluation. If it's paychological, eating isses are only the symptom.
