Appendicitis and white blood count

Common Questions and Answers about Appendicitis and white blood count

appendicitis

Avatar f tn As soon as she left the bedside, I told my ex I still thought it was appendicitis. The surgeon got there and heard the story, saw the white count, and examined him. He said it was gangrenous appendicitis and started an IV. Then after 6 hours or something he took out his appendix. So yeah, it can be confusing sometimes. The thing they most often confuse it with is diverticulitis. That can be even worse than appendicitis though.
Avatar n tn Platelets may also be low aroung 80 or lower, (normal is 140 to 415) low Platelets will cause internal bleading and bleading from the mouth, nose, ears, eyes, rectom also pinhole bleads all over the body at various times this will occour around 20 to 40 Platelet Count, and the Red Blood Count may also be low, this is called a Myeloproliferative Disorder; early on set Lukemia, sorry to say there is no treatement for this disorder at this time.
Avatar f tn I just had a blood test, and my white blood cell count is 18.2. what can this be a symton of? Do I need to take care of this immediately? I get very tired very quickly and get dizzy if move too fast.
Avatar f tn White count was high and X-ray showed probable appendicitis. Admitted to hospital and CT was done. No appendicitis but a 6mm Appendicolith was found and referral to general surgery next week.
471949 tn?1236904026 Therefore the higher-than-usual white count meant that it was already gangrenous (infected). He had to be put on IV antibiotics, and six hours later, his "soupy" (gangrenous) appendix was removed. So I was right and the ER doc was wrong!
Avatar f tn Spoke with doctor or np today and she only concern is white blood count! Signs of infection said she had to talk to another colleague about what test they can do! Tired of getting run around my child has missed almost a month of school in 2 months from being sick! Any opinions or advice??
Avatar m tn Fever then usually occurs, followed by the development of an elevated white blood cell count. Of course not all patients present this way. For example, not all patients lose their appetite. The duration of symptoms without decompensation and perforation would be highly atypical. If one of my patients developed these symptoms for this period, I would definitely order a CT scan to answer what is causing your pain.
Avatar m tn That was the first thing they ruled out, based on white blood cell count and a ct scan.
552053 tn?1273331741 I wonder if you misheard the doctor and they actually said T cells, which belong to the lymphocyte family (you know how when they run a differential white blood cell count, there are 5 kinds they check?) T cells are key to immunity. It is possible for them to become malignant, which it looks like online is called T cell lymphoma. But if you have been over your cold awhile, if you get rechecked, you may be blessed to find out they are normal, if that's what he was talking about.
Avatar f tn s level of health, monocytes make up between one and three percent of the total white blood cells in the body. They can be counted as part of a blood test, and changes in their levels can indicate changes in a patient's health. As a general rule, a low monocyte count is a good sign, and a high count indicates that a problem is present. These cells are made in the bone marrow, and they spread through the body in one to three days. They can develop into either dendritic cells or macrophages.
Avatar f tn How low does the red & white cells need to be before they give you procrit? I just got my test and red is 9.1 and white is 2.9. it keeps dropping and I'm exhausted, I get another one in 2 weeks.
Avatar f tn Went to the ER after pain kept rising and belly button popped out. After an ultrasound and high white blood count, I was diagnosed with a infected cyst and a very small hernia. I will be having surgery next week for it.
Avatar m tn Have you had blood work for Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, RBC Magnesium? Request copies, don't rely on being told levels are normal. Low normal isn't ok Vitamin D should be above 125nmoL Magnesium 6.0 Vitamin B12 above 500 Did they check your gallbladder?
Avatar f tn Sounds like both of you need to check with your doctor about what we fondly call rescue drugs. Neupogen boosts white blood cell production and Procrit boosts red blood cell production. Net - throughout my 56 weeks of treatment my WBC was always in the 1s and I rarely got sick. The lab that most of the doctors watch for is the absolute neutrophils. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell necessary to fight infection. When it is low, you are open to a multitude of infections,.
Avatar f tn About a year ago, my gynecologist had taken a blood test and made a comment of my white blood count cells being low. When asked what to do, he did not comment. Fast forward a year later, ever since then, I have been constantly getting sick with the cold. Each time I get re-sick it becomes harder and harder for me to recover. For example I have had 4 colds in the past 2 months, each was brutal and went through medicine like water.
729288 tn?1251254433 I called again about the rash on my legs. The nurse told me my white blood count is a little low but I am fine. Its 3.6 .. This is the nurse I dont trust. She dont know much about HCV.. Can you guys give me some advice on this? Is it too low? I have 11 weeks left on treatment. What can I do to raise my WBC? Etc.. Thank you all so much for being here and helping me so much.
Avatar n tn I have just had blood tests done for my bipolar and checking my levels everything was normal but my White Blood Count was low it was 0.91 has been every year for about 4 years but 2010 was ok in one of the readings. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn Is it anything to worry about? When I got my last blood test, the highest normal count of WBC is like 12% and mine was 13%. The doctors say it's nothing to worry about, but I stress about that stuff lol. I did have elevated WBC before getting pregnant, but I think it was due to fighting off chlamydia that I didn't know I had. I cured it when I found out I was pregnant and that I had it, but my WBC is still a little high. I'm concerned.
Avatar n tn I know when you have a high white blood count is a sign of infection in you body. You should get blood tests done. My friend had anemia.
Avatar f tn sometimes there are points called peaks that can happen with ur apendics at some points that can be inflamed and at other points that will not and its hard to draw blood and the time they are inflamed, i would recomend a CT scan.
Avatar f tn My son is 5yrs old and all of a sudden he has a migraine followed by a high fever I gave him Tylenol and ibprophen witch is not working so I took him to the er and they did blood work and said his white blood cell count was triple the normal. they gave him some antibiotics and sent us home. since then this has happened 3 more times. None of the Dr.'s have gave us an answer on what this can be they just give him antibiotics and send us home.
Avatar m tn I went to get blood work done because my cousin which is a Doctor wanted to rule out an appendicitis. The WBC count came back at 10.1 where the normal range for that laboratory I believe was from 5 to 10. My cousin said that is not significant enough to point towards appendicitis. My lymphocte percentage was low at 20.3 percent, and my mean platelet volume was also low 6.8. What really has me concerned though is that my blood sed rate came back at 32mm/h which is high.
Avatar n tn Blood work showed a slightly raised white blood cell count. Ultrasound and xrays for gallbladder came back negative. CT gave me the answer that I was looking for....appendicitis. A few hours later and I was out of surgery. As far as the central stomach pains, I was told by the ER Dr. that appendicitis often causes central upper abdominal pain......
Avatar f tn The number of white blood cells (WBCs) in the blood. The WBC is usually measured as part of the CBC (complete blood count). White blood cells are the infection-fighting cells in the blood. There are different types of white blood cells, including neutrophils (polymorphonuclear leukocytes; PMNs), band cells (slightly immature neutrophils), T-type lymphocytes (T cells), B-type lymphocytes (B cells), monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has had several CBC's and had slightly elevated white blood count? The last 3-4 times in which I've had a complete blood count they notice that it's elevated but not to the point where it becomes a concern ( so the doctor says) but I still find it strange.
744962 tn?1270942038 So can hashi's raise the white blood cell count? I've never been tested for it. But the last CBC I had my white blood cell count was on the verge of high. It was like 9.5 out of 11. I didn't have any infection that I was aware of.
Avatar f tn This is where the appendix will hurt periodically but not all the time and it usually is not as dangerous, I am surprised that your doctor did not do a white blood count, this would help to determine if this was the case as the white count would be elevated to a certain degree. You also could have an ulcer, the reason I say this is because you stated the pain went away when you ate and was with you when you felt very hungry, I believe some ulcers can cause the dizziness and nausea.
Avatar n tn I've had HIV for 24 years and I've never had an abnormal wbc due to HIV.
