Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety zap

Avatar m tn Hi Guys, Since two weeks ago, I've been confronted already a few times with a sudden brain zap (or that is what I think people call them). It is a very scary feeling, that mostly after the brain zap, is followed by a period of lightheadedness and dizziness. I discovered on the internet doing research that it is quite common for people that are dealing anxiety, especially if they are exiting their medication program. I am indeed under a treatment for anxiety using Lexapro 10 MG daily.

Avatar m tn These are common symptoms of anxiety. Of course they may be caused by something else therefore seeking professional help is always warranted.
Avatar f tn Hi I'm currently taking cipralex (antidepressants) for anxiety and panic attacks. Currently I have been feeling a strange electric shock type feeling going through my body. This is usually accompained by pulsing of muscles. I don't think this could be caused by anxiety as lately I have been less anxious. I am worried that have some rare disease I would be really grateful for any advice. Thanks in advance :).
Avatar f tn The doctor took me off of zoloft + adderall due to pregnancy & put me on the wellbutrin... Zoloft was working great for me. Despite gaining 40+lbs over a one year span, i felt great! My depression & anxiety were completely resolved! But the dr was affraid of possible birth defects & said this was a better choice. I feel drained & the eye problem + vertigo type feelings...

Avatar m tn Hello, I am a 28 yr old male and have been having some complications that have been confusing me. Over the past year, I have begun to get electric zap sensations in my brain that leave me feeling confused, dazed, and with dizzy bouts of vertigo. These feelings are likened to the electric feeling you get when you have a shiver in your spine; however, this shiver happens within my head.
503607 tn?1275675179 He was able to zap my afib and svt. The issue of worrying about my heart non stop has brought on anxiety that will not go away. When I excercise I actually bring on PVC's because I keep waiting to feel an irrgular beat. I guess I have to make the first step and call someone regarding the anxiety, my regular dr gave my xanax but I dont want to take it.
1265027 tn?1284843551 I go to bed at 9 fall asleep right away and wake up with the brain zap feeling and cold sweat and then the anxiety and panic set in. Again just knowing I am not alone helps so much.
573569 tn?1278633255 Hey has anyone ever woke up in the middle of the night with a brain zap. It feels like your brain shocks you, then you can't go back to sleep. It's now my third day back on zoloft which I was on three years ago for my anxiety and it worked wonders for me but I don't know if it's the medz or just my anxiety that's causing this symptom. Any input ?
Avatar m tn Hey guys, this is my first post and I'm not the best writer so please forgive me. :) I have never been a good sleeper. You know hard to get to sleep and always sleepy. But over a year ago I started getting odd sleep events. Particularly when I'm about to fall asleep or wake up. If I'm gonna fall asleep my brain will "zap" me awake. And if I'm waking up I can't move. To sum up a lot of crap the sleep doc said I have hypnagogic sleep reactions.
Avatar f tn I'm on Lexapro and it has helped me out a lot, I don't think any medication will completely zap anxiety, what it does is help control it so that I'm about to function in my day to day life, which it has! Before I started taking the medication my mornings were awful and I would lay in bed for a long time worrying about the day and what was happening to me. Now, I don't worry about things nearly as bad as I used to. Is there still lingering anxiety? Yes.
Avatar f tn It happened about a week later in the am, vomitting, etc. Then it happened while driving but not the same, more like a zap of adrenaline that caused a major headrush and disorientation for a brief moment. Since then, I have had these zaps about 5 or 6 times, all while driving. I have constant head pressure, feeling like I am swaying, going to fall over or sometimes just plain lightheadedness all day sometimes. It has gotten worse, not really worse but more prolonged lately.
Avatar f tn It could be anxiety if you've been under a lot of stress lately. Anxiety can zap your energy. It's a really good thing that all of your tests came back normal. Is there any way you can get your stress level down?
890064 tn?1244822930 Hello all, I am a 21-year-old college student in fair health. A bit overweight but other than that, pretty normal. About three months back, I had my first "anxiety attack" (or at least that's what the three ER doctors I saw told me it was). I felt very light headed, to the point where I felt like the world was shaking and I was going to collapse... but never did. A had these same attacks for the following two weeks. And for all of those 2 weeks, my left hand wouldn't stop tingling.
1294632 tn?1306362530 I've been having a tough time lately with my anxiety, my doctor keeps lowering my Valium even though I don't feel well enough to do so. I'm down to 3mg a day, which I'm struggling with. When I get a panic attack I usually feel it in my chest, but over the last 2 weeks I've been getting horrible feeling in my brain, as if my panic attack is happening in my head, very scary.
Avatar n tn Does anyone else have head issues and have been told that it is anxiety? I am about tired of this constant head pressure/pain that I keep getting. Its very weird. I will wake up in the morning and feel ok, then about 1/2 hour later this pressure/pain will start on the left side of my head near the top. It will seem to intensify and then lessen itself throughout the day with no real rhyme or reason to when it is worse or better.
1349329 tn?1276988802 i get a few hours of drugged sleep at night from meds but the daytime is torturous. i'm so tired and sleepy but the minute i start to fall asleep zap. i don't want to live like this and the psych doc doesn't want to hear from me no suggestions now except to go to urgent care and telll them my symptoms so that they might order some lab work. WTF? this is a psychiatrist, a specialist and he can't order labs? I'm trying to hold on but it is getting very hard.

Avatar f tn Some of your symptoms do sound more anxiety related. For example, the wave you feel coming over you with dizziness is probably anxiety. However, other potential causes could be lower blood pressure due for example to dehydration, or blood sugar, heart arrhythmias etc. If you have been checked for these and related conidtions, as it sounds like you did with the tests you mention above, and the results were normal, then these can be excluded as a cause.
Avatar m tn The anxiety is definitely there but I just don't know which came first, the anxiety that led to not being able to sleep, or the not sleeping that has caused the anxiety! I just know the thyroid is the cause!
Avatar n tn Lets say ill bend over, or turn my head or strain or get up quickly ill get a zap in the side of my head or behind my eye or neer my temple, its got me so worried looking up information on anyuresms (my dad has alot of head pains too wich makes me have them also) and brain tumors, this is ghoing to sound stupid, but, im constantly checking my spit and inside my nose to see if im bleeding to death or somehting. Does anyoe else have these problems?
784382 tn?1376934640 the physical effects of my anxiety so I can work on my therapy in peace and end the cycle that constant anxiety puts you in and makes it very difficult to achieve results in therapy. I just started CBT and already I can see it will help... so sounds like you are pursuing therapy... no reason you can't use the meds to make that process easier for you....
Avatar n tn There is no relation between your thyroid nodules and your anxiety symptoms as long as your T4, T3 and TSH levels are normal. The cause of your anxiety state is not physical but psychological. What you really need is psychotherapy. You can find plenty of information in this forum on CBT and medications for anxiety/depression.
Avatar f tn The last few years, I've had trembling, extreme fatigue, muscle aches, heart palpitations, hair loss, severe anxiety and panic attacks. Those are just a few of my symptoms. I've told my ENDO these symptoms and she said they're not due to my thyroid issue. I'm borderline diabetic and my adrenals are the same. It's hard to work every day when you're shaking and feel like you're going to have a heart attack. Is it necessary to take antidepressant to suppress the anxiety?
Avatar f tn I'm wondering if this could be anxiety, or blood pressure or if it might be related to the overall problems currently being investigated through MRI, EMG, etc. Any thoughts?? God Bless!
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been diagnosed with anxiety and I am currently taking 10mg Lexapro which doe not seem to be helping. I have really bad physical symptoms and I think there is something else medically wrong with me, even though the various health test that I've had all came up negative. My question is, does anyone of you suffering from anxiety feel constantly tired all of the time, feel like you are out of your body, like on drugs or living in a constant dream? I guess it's called depersonalization?
Avatar n tn So I have had pretty serious anxiety and depression issues for as long as I can remember. I am 22 years old, and I have spent everyday of those 22 years obsessing over things that are completely out of my control. I have been diagnosed/misdiagnosed as having multiple disorders; GAD, agoraphobia, borderline personality disorder, and finally as manic depressive, which I think is the most accurate.
Avatar f tn Omg really i did not know that tingling was so common with anxiety I have been almost anxiety free for 6 monthes but I still have head tingles all the time they scared me so much I have posted in the nerology section! I have had them for 1 year know. I had all the test done and they say it is nothing at all. So if you have it and i have it and we have anxiety it might be common! Take care!
