Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety relief exercises

anxiety

Avatar n tn Actually, gabapentin is used for anxiety, in higher doses than those used for nerve pain. It's off-label, of course, but isn't everything these days? I only know this because my psychiatrist is considering it for my anxiety, and that forced me to research it, otherwise I'd be clueless. How well it works is another matter. But heart rate isn't causing your anxiety here.
Avatar f tn I have had success with breathing exercises. It's hard to know what caused the improvement though, the exercises or the reduction in anxiety I started to feel around the same time. Maybe the exercises reduced anxiety. Every night I sat up in bed and imagined my lungs were three balloons, the blue one being the top part of the lung, the red one the middle part, and the green part the bottom part. Then I breathed slowly and calmly.
605458 tn?1539228808 mark medications taken, such as antidepressents or antianxiety meds, or things like relaxation exercises and maybe how much relief was gotten. Something along those lines. Would that be possible? It would be a great help to see what is working and what isn't. Getting a visual that the anxiety is decreasing or that you are working really hard and not avoiding situations would be a really good incentive.
Avatar f tn You also need to stretch the lower back extensors to decrease spasms. Try trunk elongation exercises to prevent progression of the curve. Consult a physical therapist for them to teach these simple exercises. Avoid asymmetric postures such as sitting only on one side and standing on one leg. Correct faulty postures specially sway back. Try practicing proper body mechanics such as the correct way of getting up from the bed, and the proper way to lift and carry an object.
667016 tn?1238891904 Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to this community & hurt my back Oct '06. I lifted a heavy bucket out of the sink & experienced excruciating pain in my lower back R hand side. Later that night I temporarily lost feeling in both legs, they were like dead weights - I had to crawl to bed. Next morning I was still in agonising pain & my spine was severly bent sideways - to the point where I looked deformed & felt like I was going to topple over.
2083571 tn?1339481452 You could try taking plenty of water, avoiding sleeping at daytime and leg stretching exercises. If you still do not experience relief and the symptoms are severe, you may consider seeing a doctor to look for nutritional deficiencies and for appropriate management. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn hey like kelz said...i think yoga or breathing exercises are very good to relieve the anxiety...i used to have terrible anxxiety but my therapist recomended to try the breathing exercises and it really helped alot...i was also perscribed clonazapam but i refused to take them after i tried the breathing exercises because they helped me more then the medication....try eating healthy, do exercise because both of those things help the anxiety just as much as medication...
Avatar f tn Dr Jolie Bookspans pain relief measures mainly describe postural effects on pain and exercises and physiotherapy to relieve pain. It may be worthwhile going through these though these may not work in everybody or in moderate-severe cases. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn My doctor has stated that dedicating time every day to deep breathing exercises/meditation will help control anxiety. I have had anxiety for the better part of the past 10 years but it only flares up when either (a) I tweak my medication (b) try to come off medication. Currently I am on 15mg of Lexapro and 1mg of Clonazepam (Klonopin) taken both at nighttime. Does anybody have any success stories on implementing breathing techniques/meditation for relief of anxiety.
Avatar f tn There are lots of techniques out there, including meditation, exercise, yoga, breathing exercises, progressive muscle tensing -- but usually you learn them in therapy from a therapist expert in treating anxiety. That's the place to start.
Avatar n tn Have you tried relaxation exercises? It sounds stupid, but if you practice pursed-lip breathing exercises or recite a verse/poem/prayer in your mind while breathing in deeply and exhaling slowly, it sometimes relieves anxiety.
1275919 tn?1279836004 m wondering if there are any actual breathing techniques that may help me get this most out of breathing exercises. Usually I just take a deep breath in close my eyes and wait a few seconds and then slowly release the air. Does anyone know of certain ways of breathing that help when in pain?
341903 tn?1225388712 Anxiety in and of itself is quite painless. What anxiety can cause OUR MINDS to make our bodies feel is another story. We can not tell you what meds you should take or even if you should take any. You need to see your doctor about the pain you are having and let him/her rule out a physical cause for it. Then you can discuss dealing with the anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression disorder over three years now. Recently I have experienced thouyghts of self worthlessness and intense depression. I was wondering if anyone else had any positive affirmations or skills that I could practice to change my current (negative) way of thinking. Please help! Ex: foods, exercises, notes to self...
Avatar m tn It would probably also help you to talk to a Psychotherapist and/or do relaxing exercises like meditation, music and yoga. Forget about anaerobic exercises. Just walking is fine.
Avatar n tn doctor prescribed Xanax for anxiety over a CT scan..........doenst seem to be working, what else can I do to get through it? Have developed really bad claustrophobia.
Avatar f tn I have had anxiety for years. Sometimes I get symptoms when I am anxious but there are times I get symptoms when not anxious. I get tense muscles, dizziness, feel off balance, have a heavy head, heart palpitations and body pains. Do some research on anxiety and find what works for you. If you feel you need more help them you should seek some therapy. Best of luck to you.
