Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety medication pregnancy safe

Avatar f tn So before I was pregnant I had extreme anxiety, and was on and off medication. Didnt really like the effects - I was either a mindless zombie, or super nice and happy. And for the first 2 trimesters my anxiety had been pretty low. But, now I'm 35 weeks and the anxiety is so bad. I get it for big things, small things, or i'll even just be sitting watching tv and get hit with a huge wave of anxiety for no reason. I've started scratching my self..

I am thinking if I should see a psychiatrist for help. I will appreciate it if you could share with me if you are suffering from any side effect from anxiety medication or not. Thanks.

Avatar n tn If you don't mind me asking, what medication are you using? I've had a prior history of anxiety and have talked to my OB, but anxiety "attacks" have become more frequent since my last appointment. I want to stay as natural as possible, but some medicine may be a last resort. Thanks everyone for the support!

541196 tn?1293556536 Namaste, SSRI antidepressants(such as Lexapro) may cause serious or life-threatening lung problems in newborn babies whose mothers take the medication during pregnancy. However, you may have a relapse of depression if you stop taking your antidepressant during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, or if you become pregnant while taking Lexapro, do not stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor.
1268578 tn?1274887817 Im scared but I have no other choice as I have major insomnia and anxiety problems without the medication, and have already attempted to stop, causing several withdrawal problems. I am looking for anybody who has shared a similar experience and can relate to me, and help me through my pregnancy. Thank you , I am only 5 weeks.
Avatar f tn I understand where you are coming from, anxiety is difficult to deal with and pregnancy can make it worse. First thing taking any medication that is not prescribed to you, pregnant or not, is not a smart idea. Second xanax is a narcotic so it's a risky medication for anybody to take. Also said talk to your doctor, there are medications considered safe for pregnant woman with anxiety. Please also let your doctor know that you have taken the xanax in case something happens do to it.

Avatar f tn Has anyone ever tooken anxiety and depression medication while either pregnant or breastfeeding. How safe is it?
Avatar f tn I suffer from anxiety have for years now. If you have questions about anxiety I probally have an answer or know where to find it just drop me a note. I also suffer from PTSD. which in turn affects anxiety. please don't be afraid to ask me questions. I am a mother of a 5 year old and one on the way. My husband is in the military and is gone for up to 6 months at a time out of the year. Its hard but I manage.
Avatar n tn It is better than Xanax because it does not involve medication and has no side effects. I suffer from anxiety, panic attacks and insomnia because of high nighttime cortisol. My daughter-in-law tried an acupressure technique on me to eliminate the anxiety and taught my husband how to do it. It involves holding the toes of each foot in a particular order using particular fingers. It is a simple procedure that takes 15 minutes and anyone can do it after being shown a single time.
5528454 tn?1384296152 Id you tell your Dr he or she will give you something to help. My anxiety attacks are really bad. I am on my 6th pregnancy btw and is a very high risk one so i have alot of stress and anxiety but three pills do help. Hope you start feeling better.
Avatar f tn My dr told me to take benadryl for anxiety and panic attacks with my last pregnancy. Apparently there is a natural sedative in benadryl that is safe for you and baby. Ask your doctor.
Avatar f tn I talked to my doc about it but unfortunately the only safe medication they wanted to put me on, I am allergic to. I have to deal with it in different ways : breathing exercises, visualization techniques, calming music, warm bathes, but mostly just keeping busy so I don't have time to think about stuff.
4516107 tn?1356307667 I was in the same boat. Honestly, I just deal with it. However, now that you're in the second trimester, you can go on Zoloft without too much risk to baby.

Avatar f tn Are there ANY anxiety/depression meds that are allowed to take during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn Were you on medication and decided to stay on it? I have been on Zoloft 50mg, and now at almost 20 weeks my anxiety is getting worse, I am having more frequent obsessive thoughts and skills learned in therapy are not always helping. I'm thinking maybe I should up my does, but I was trying to keep the does low bc I know of the possible side effects of SSRI and pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone had any sucess managing their their anxiety/stress while pregnant without medication or if there are any truly safe medicines out there. I go back to my OBGYN this Wednesday and I am planning on discussing this with him. Any feedback would be great. Before anyone says yoga or anything like that, I really do not think that stuff is for me! Ive tried to just relax but sometimes it just does not help.
