Avatar f tn After a series of tests on her part and questionnaires on our part, he diagnosed her with ADHD (inattentive type with no H factor) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. He recommended meds for ADHD and family therapy for the ODD. Our pediatrician does not take this diag lightly, so they are testing her again as like a 2nd opinion. We do that on Sept 16th. I am just so overwhelmed right now.

Avatar n tn s anxiety? Often anxiety can mimic the behaviours of ADD/ADHD and it is not unusual for a child with anxiety to be misdiagnosed with one or both of these issues. Our child was diagnosed with severe anxiety (and this diagnosis is correct) and then later, it was thought that she also suffered from ADD/ADHD (she was so hyper and active and unable to concentrate and learn or behave appropriately - this diagnosis was wrong).
Avatar f tn Ritalin is used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and narcolepsy (an uncontrollable desire to sleep). When given for attention deficit disorder, Ritalin should be an integral part of a total treatment program that includes psychological, educational, and social measures. Ritalin may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

My best advice is try ADHD medication, since ive been taking it Ive gained control of everything and have stopped taking meds for anxiety because believe it or not, I only had anxiety because the ADHD was not diagnosed or being treated! Because you feel like you have no control, you become depressed and scared, its common!
Avatar n tn Our child was diagnosed with ADHD, TS, and Seizure Disorder. Our child does have facial twitching, shoulder shrugs, and various other things, as well as ADD symptoms like daydreaming in class, not completing assignments, being forgetful, etc. I could list them all but I'm sure that's really necessary. They did an EEG and blood work and urine tests to rule out other things such as lead and copper and such.

Avatar f tn But, since I am also the CL for the ADHD forum, I am also very intune in anxiety in kids. Anxiety is a very strong co-disorder of ADHD and usually caused by the ADHD. Avatar f tn I have heard of ADHD symptoms, I heard that it is much more easier to have fights if you have ADHD also ADHD kids act mostly, hyper, either violent(Not all), Overreacting over mainly little things. Sometimes they wonder in there own world. Having Aspergers can be different in many ways, Aspergers is when your child is having emotional problems maybe even getting embarrassed, shy, difficult education maybe even speech problems.
Avatar n tn Sensory integration disorder looks very very much like adhd as both involve the nervous system. Sensory is often confused for adhd as it is the lesser known of the two and many thinks get lumped into the adhd category. They are treated differently though and it is important to be accurate in a diagnosis of any sort.
Avatar f tn This is happening in school and at home. I tried to get him tested when he first started acting out at the age of 5 or 6 but I was told to young then when he turned 7 I git him tested again for add/ADHD few months ago and he has ADHD he was prescribed medication and to see a behavioral counselor but that didn't go anywhere and he doesn't take the med. I tried pushing talking I don't believe in beating but I've tried it.
Avatar f tn The moods of children who have ADHD or bipolar disorder may change quickly, but children with ADHD do not generally show dysphoria (depression) as a predominant symptom. Irritability is particularly prominent in children who are bipolar, especially in the morning on arousal.
Avatar f tn In September he was dx as having GAD (Generalized anxiety disorder). He takes an anti depressant, ADHD medication (intuniv) and a mood medication. There is no huge immprovment on these meds. He still refuses to write, or finish most work. Still socoally inept, still talks out loud, cant sit still, still quick to anger, zero impulse control. I asked for an IEP on Sep 11th. They just finished his evals (although I have no idea what they really did).
Avatar f tn Here's another option.- your son might not have ADHD at all but instead be suffering from anxiety. Google the phrase "anxiety and children" or "anxiety behaviors in children" and see if the descriptions are similar to those of your child. Anxiety is sometimes misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD as many of the behaviours are similar. If you think this might be the case, then discuss this possibility with your child's doctor.
Avatar n tn t think that he has ADHD or any other disorder. He just has a fear of not knowing what to do and instead of asking for help like most kids he will sit there and cry. It's like the pressure is just to much for him. I have the teachers help with trying certain things in class. I also give him flax seed in as much food as possible for the OMEGA'S and I also spray him down morning and night with Magnesium oil.
Avatar f tn m a teacher with a masters degree, 3 kids and considered rather successful as an adult). Having this disorder can be extremely stressful. I believe my father was probably ADHD. Kids who do not recieve relief from this disorder will most likely self-medicate when they get the chance...welcome to drug and alcohol abuse. Make your decisions wisely and be open for change...search and search until you find a solution that works...especially if this is not your disorder...because if it's not..
5757880 tn?1395578022 My son, 8 years old, is currently going through evaluations regarding sensory issues, anxiety issues and he has been diagnosed with ADHD. The doctor is still uncertain whether he has PDD and is continuing to evaluate him. The doctor has diagnosed him with ADHD and Anxiety; we just finished an O/T evaluation regarding his sensory issues and should have the final report soon.
Avatar n tn A social worker could have a good understanding of what ADHD kids need if they have been in practice for years and have clients with ADHD. However, I think that you may need - or will need - more professional help. The book I recommend a lot on the ADHD forum is - "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley. She has some very good sections relating to schools and homework. Plus just a lot of other very good advice.
Avatar f tn I am glad your doctor realized that anxiety is a very common co-disorder with ADHD (usually caused by the ADHD). I do hope that you also learn coping mechanisms for the anxiety - if the ADHD is now under control, you should find it much easier to do so (won't happen over night though). Hopefully, with your ADHD under a certain degree of control, many of the situations that have caused you anxiety will lessen.
Avatar n tn i have a 10 yr old adhd/ nld - non verbal learning disorder child who is on prozac 10mg, because he was said to be way too anxious on stimulants, but now off stimulants md still has him on it.......
Avatar f tn We have not tried natural remedies or serious diet changes as much change causes more anxiety, but worth looking into. Also, to (RockRose)Not sure how adhd and anxiety "disagree" with each other, Maybe I am not sure what you mean. i just don't think that it is too common to have both diagnosis so early. Just because someone is extremely hyper and has difficulty focusing, doesn;t mean that they cannot have anxiety.
