672839 tn?1305792947 To me, there are two types of groups, 1) Support and 2) Self Help. Support Groups are places to go and feel safe. Lead by others with medical conditions like ours, opinions are shared by all, and comfort is widely given while tears flow. The discussions are personal and individualized making this the place to be when your chin is on the ground. Self-Help groups relieve a different pain. In this setting professionals teach you the steps necessary to better yourself and your position.

I asked my doc when I was pregnant and he researched if they were safe . His answer was "only take them in pregnancy if the benefits outweighs the risks. So no he said. They're not safe.. only if you're feeling desperate that you'll harm yourself.
1468734 tn?1316535897 I have been diagnosed with major depression/dysthymia. I also struggle with anxiety and add. Goodie Goodie. I get so tired of recovery but it is necessary. I used to track my moods here but am trying to do that again. I hope to make some new friends here.
Avatar m tn Lastly, and most importantly, while online groups can certainly help us in some ways, and even give us a sense of support, it should NEVER be your only source of help or support and should NEVER be used in place of real, in person support or help. There's no substitution for that in person connection you will have with other people, the eye contact, physical touch, etc.
Avatar f tn First I'm a male 21 years old and live in Garden Grove California. I have anxiety, I haven't seen a doctor and been diagnosed but I've quite had a few panic attacks, also for about 2 or 3 months I couldn't leave the house. My dad has anxiety as well and although he kind of got it he didn't at the same time. I got an anxiety workbook which had a section on some other things including OCD and depression. In the check for depression I showed 7 of the 9 signs for it.
Avatar f tn Various health conditions like Dibetes, Heart, Chronic Pain always seem to have local support groups but when it comes to eye conditions they seem to be lacking. Patients see a doctor, they might be given a brochure and then there is usually no commuication until their next visit. Outside of forum like this individuals with the same eye conditions can't get support from each other or from speakers that come to speak at support group meetings.
Avatar n tn lupus, CREST, Sjogrens) as well as some pretty serious secondary disorders (neuropathy, heart problems) and was wondering if anyone out there has multiple autoimmune as well and if a support group would be beneficial? I have shied away from going to support groups for various reasons but am beginning to think now maybe one would be helpful. Thoughts? I feel like I am losing ground daily not only physically but also emotionally.
Avatar n tn You can look up and see if there are depression support groups in your area. Usually, they meet up once or twice a week. They have support groups for people who support us also, like your husband. I've been the person going through it and also the support person, and, as you know, support is great for everyone. A good support group is the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) which is found nationwide.
Avatar m tn It seems that Seattle does not have any support groups in the area? How do people cope when they find out they are positive for HSV 1 or 2? I was diagnosed over 3 years ago through a blood test IGg. I have pretty much isolated myself from going out, meeting anyone and I have no one to talk to at all. I got blood tested after going online and requesting the STD test through quest diagnostics laboratory. My results ccame back positive for both HSV 1 and 2.
Avatar m tn Hi Brodo256, I also had a stroke and have been looking for groups/message boards for young people who have had strokes. I haven't found too much, but there are a few groups on facebook. It seems like all the resources are for parents of young kids/babies who have had strokes or much older people who have had strokes. When did you have your stroke? How have you been doing since?
1044526 tn?1254514545 Besides the MS society chapter in Nashville, I would encourage you to attend any of the free programs (usually sponsored by a big pharma company like Teva) that you can find in your area. Talk with the people at your table and ask what groups they might attend. I have found three different groups through this method. It is universal that MS patients everywhere like to share... :-) Contact your drug mfg or look on their website.
Avatar f tn i heard that there are support groups i was wondering if anyone knew of a site i can search for one in my area or does anyone know of one in the daytona beach fl area?
Avatar f tn She said it was very scary but the minute she had her baby her instincts kicked in and she fell in love with her baby. Take a deep breath, you can do this. There are ton of support groups out there for new mom's that your doctor can recommend and if you still feel depressed talk to your doctor about help. You're a strong woman just have confidence in yourself.

Avatar f tn m on day 11 of hydro WD and still have ups and downs. Depression goes with the territory. I go to my support groups which really helps me to get out of my depressed thinking. I find my mood is completely changed the remainder of the day. I can tell when my wife has taken some, she's really up. My thinking is: What goes up must eventually come down. When I came down I crashed. She gets moody and depressed when down.
Avatar f tn Best wishes for you and your little one. I hope you overcome this soon. Tell yout dr. And ask for support groups. You are going to be amazed about the number of women that go through the same thing.
Avatar f tn Any one have good advice for forum or group that I can recommend for my husband and loved ones as I have suffered so much from depression and anxiety and PTSD. Though I am getting better, I have begun to realize that their pain is so strong too as they watched me go through this. I want them to continue to understand me and just like I am reaching out to my own groups to understand my pain, I know they are suffering too and I want to help them if I can.
795475 tn?1237734683 Just a quick update to those of you who were so kind and helpful when I initially posted. As you will know my husband was attending a psychiatric assessment. With a lot of anxiety and doubt he attended the appointment by himself. Although I didn't ask for a word for word account of what was discussed I did get a general idea. They did go through his life's history and he did get an opportunity to raise concerns about his health.
525545 tn?1293181194 s really hard to give you info with the little you gave. I can say though, that support groups and talk therapy should be part of your wellness program, meds alone aren't a cure. I found a good website that can find you local and online support groups. http://www.ndmda.org/ It's also really important that you have structure in your life, like getting to bed and getting up at the same time each day. Too little or too much sleep will affect your moods greatly.
