6531549 tn?1382156890 My moms side of the family and my dads have struggled with severe anxiety and depression and it led to my dads addiction to alcohol, so I've come to believe that it's genetic.

Avatar f tn Which in turn is stressful and thus causing depression, anxiety and many other problems. Environment; Say you have a poor, low paid job, with loads of hours. And you just hate it. Home life is a mess, a loved one has died. Of course you're going to be depressed, this is a part of acceptance, and because you've basically just "given up" on everything. The fact that you've given up, means that you have a negative attitude towards allot of things. And it's just a huge factor.
Avatar n tn Some kids will seem to be destroyed by it - and have problems with depression, and anxiety. another one may become very angry and put up a wall and another may completely overcome it and lead a normal healthy life. Why is that? I think it is all temperment - or the ability to cope based on your personality type.
377493 tn?1356505749 once you have an extreme anxiety condition, does the medication typically even things out so that you can stop, or does this condition typically stay with you. Also, is there any sort of genetic link with anxiety? My mother and one of her sisters also have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks most of their adult life. I know so little about this and appreciate any and all responses and information. Thanks so much in advance.
Avatar f tn I was on Paxil for the last 8 months for anxiety and depression and gained 25 pounds. In addition to that, while on paxil, my credit score dropped because of irresponsibility on my part, my grades dropped, I didn't have energy to exercise as much as I used to and I was fired from a job for the first time ever. The positive side to all of that is that I was much nicer to my husband and less irritated all the time. My panic attacks were less frequent and I smiled more.
Avatar f tn Or it could be something external like VOCs that are in air that get absorbed through our skin and lungs and then we carry them with us when we leave home or whatever where we are exposed to VOCs that could be possibly generated by toxic materials or mold or whatever
Avatar n tn If two people married who suffered from OCD and Major Depression-- and one person recovered-- and these people had children, what would be the likelyhood that their child would suffer from OCD/Depression as well. Bi-Polar runs on both sides of the family, too. Would it be "smarter" for the couple to not have children?... for the sake of the child? i don't think genetic counseling would help this couple. thank you.
Avatar m tn As far as I know most mental illnesses that are genetic start in late teens and early twenties. However, genetic peculiarities are just that, genetic. I am not an expert on genetic psychiatry, so I would encourage you to take your question to Depression/Anxiety/Mental Health Expert Forum.

Avatar m tn Cymbalta helps and my doctor is monitoring my mood swings closely. But I need something to boost my energy and go through times of anxiety better. Is it safe to take B12 shots without asking the doctor first? Obvious answer would be No. But do you have other thoughts? I mean, will it have any side effects with Cymbalta? Thanks very much in advance.
Avatar m tn I have acne and suffer from hirutism on my face (not mostache though, just cheeks/chin/neck.) Also have depression and have quite bad social anxiety. I have suffered these symptoms for about 2-3 years. I've just gone on akamin 50 for my acne. My dad had acromegaly when he was 25 but this is apparently not genetic. Also have very regular periods. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I have suffered from many things that have come up recently due to things I have experienced since I was a child. My life experiences have produced depression, severe anxiety/panic, and some form of an OCD disorder. Since I was diagnosed 4 years ago, I have been on 15mg of Remeron (antidepressant), 0.5mg 3x day of Klonopin, and I am also being seen by a professional and I am in counseling.
Avatar m tn I am a 36 year old male. I have had OCD, Depression and Anxiety as far back as I can remember. I have done everything that I can to treat it - multiple medications, multiple therapists and a slew of naturopathic treatments Is there any hope for me? I remember being very young and telling people that I was depressed and they would tell me that I didn’t know what that word meant….but I did. As I got older and more sophisticated, I realized that I had OCD.
Avatar f tn Personally, it took me probably a total of 5 months to *really* get myself back from the anxiety and depression (my main concern was the anxiety). Every now and then I'll have a mild bout of anxiety or depression, but it has gotten so so so much better. I saw the biggest difference after just one week off the pill, so I hope you will experience at least the same relief right away.
Avatar m tn I have depression and anxiety that runs in the family. I also suffer with chronic back/leg pain (9 surgeries, which exacerbates it. I have been on many different medications, none helping with the depression and anxiety. Anyone else have this problem? It's debilitating. Living in pain is bad enough, depression brings it to another level altogether!
8722107 tn?1399606252 ** PS** its the little things we woman dwell on that can put depression and anxiety in motion.. Iv learned that the hard way.. So as hard as it is don't sweat the little stuff.. And be honest about you feelings and emotions ..
407872 tn?1205119497 More than likely the tachycardia is caused by the anxiety/panic which causes more panic, and it hence is the cycle. If it makes you feel any better, here is the way I look at it. (If the doctor does say you have clean tests and EKG like you said). a.) If this is something that happens frequently, then it would definately show up on the EKG, it could not hide itself. b.
363243 tn?1331037450 I have PCOS, Hashimotos, Pituitary Tumor, Type 2 Diabetes and Depression/Anxiety. Seems they somehow all go hand and hand. :-( I am 30 and have always been underweight, until about a year and a half ago I began just packing on the pounds. I am now 5'2" and 160 lbs!!!!!! I take metformin, lexapro, cabergoline and levothyroxine.
Avatar n tn Most of the research that I have found uses 160 mg/dl as the point where they start to see a correlation to anxiety and depression. However, as far as I can tell, the researchers have not come to a consensus in the matter. There are some other circumstances that further my curiosity regarding the relationship: 1. My sister recently had a baby and experienced severe anxiety afterwards. She also has low cholesterol levels.
Avatar f tn I don't smoke MJ, but I take Xanax and alcohol together and for a short time they really vaporize my depression and anxiety. What you must understand is that this is simply self medicating that we do. The end result is not going to help bring your depression and anxiety to a remissive state. Not that I have room to talk, simply because I drink and take Benzos to ease my suffering, but I now it has very bad long term consiquesces for our illness.
Avatar f tn Do people with mental illness have a genetic predisposition to it and then gets triggered from various environmental factors such as social events, school, or maybe for no reason at all? I'm asking because I had severe OCD when I was young, started at 12 years old or so. It consisted of me repeating ambiguous thoughts/phrases/words in my mind every morning before I started my day. The thoughts/words never made sense and could never be said out loud because it was just gibberish.
Avatar f tn Since me and my two brothers all have issues with anxiety and depression, I wondered if it was genetic? I have a different mother than my brothers but our problems with anxiety are similar. My dad said he didn't have anxiety issues until after the war. This is why I wonder if its Agent Orange related. Both my brothers were born in the 70's and my oldest brother has the worst anxiety of all three of us. I was born early 80's and mine comes and goes.
