Trazadone is an antidepressant, although not a very good one because it causes you to be very tired. I actually take it to help me sleep and have been on it for years. Without it, my mind doesn't shut off and I lay for hours trying to fall asleep As far as being addictive-no. And believe me, I'm an addict. Now, Vistaril is an antiemetic (helps with nausea) and antihistamine (helps with allergies). It also causes drowsiness.

I was prescribed Vistaril today, I also take Klonopin at bedtime 0.25 mgs. Can I do both? Funny thing is my ENT doctor prescribed the Vistaril for me 25 mgs. at bedtime....... Since he's not a Psychaistrist will it be Ok to take both? I went to him because of breathing problems and the sensation of my throat closing up which I get 3 times a week!

It would help me to feel better if I knew that it was rare and about what % of patients taking Vistaril and Trazadone for 7 weeks (Vistaril), to 4 months (Trazadone), get TD or BEB from it. My psychiatric nurse practitioner said that it is not common with those drugs & that she hasn't seen it happen from them in her 38 years of practice. She said it mainly happened from the psychotrophics used long-tem. Would you agree with that?

Hello and welcome! Doctors are often cautious about jumping to a medication in the benzodiazepine family, due to the issues of tolerance and dependency. Vistaril is an antihistamine, so it's essentially like taking a Benadryl. Surprisingly, some people actually DO find some relief with it, and it's not surprising that a doctor would err on the conservative side and try something like that, with less risks and considerations than an anxiolytic medication.

But my doctor also prescribed me vistaril as a tranquilizer when I have an attack. It kicks in in about 15mins and helps calm me down. This combo has worked well for me but the only thing I don't like about the vistaril is that it is an antihistamine and it dries me out. But that's the only problem. Hope this help!

I take 10 mg of Celexa and Vistaril for sleep. I think if I upped my dose of Celexa to 20 mg then it would probably work for the anxiety, but I'm trying to lose much needed weight. (I've lost 20 and have about 15 to go). I would obviously rather be happy and fat but I've been trying to lose this weight for about 7 years so I don't want to up my dose just yet. I've been using rescue remedy spray and calms and they help a little.

You are also taking so many drugs that it might be the combination of so many that slow metabolism that are the problem. Vistaril is an antihistamine that has an unwanted side effect of making people very sedated, as many allergy meds do.

My husbands doctor prescribed him Vistaril & Xanax today. He went there for help for using Oxys etc. Does anyone know about this, or know if it may help? We keep getting the run around with our doctors by just prescribing anxiety meds. So has anyone used this for withdrawals and trying to quit those drugs? Please help!

I hear it has helped others with severe treatment related itching. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine and shouldn’t interfere with your HCV treatment. for schizophrenia and bipolar disorders..but has a side effect of deep sleep ..vistaril is an antihistamine with a side effect of drowsiness as well..i am glad u got some sleep..sounds like it was much needed..sleep is important to recovery as we become weak without it...i do know some say they have a medicine head after taking seraquil and risperdal....that droggy feeling in the am....

t recommend long term use of steriods while treating but will write for a prescription strength antihistamine, such as Atarax or Vistaril. Haven't heard of acupuncture as a rememdy but who knows, if the itching is driving you nuts it's worth a try.

Doc gave me Vistaril which worked really well. It is an antihistamine and used for nausea. Did have some days anxiety was very high but it is doable. Good luck!!

well thanks for your advice I did go to my doctor and he also said that the ringworn and rash are diffrent issues. He said that I have contact dermatitius and gave me prednisone and vistaril and higher level hydrocortizone so far everything seems to be going away the itching has went away mostly now just have to heal all the marks i left from constant itching and digging at my skin. again thanks for your advice.

I had been so encouraged at how well I was doing and now, since yesterday afternoon, I've been shaking, hot and feeling very panicy. I've been taking vits, exercising, etc and I just feel awful like I will come out of my own skin. My doc perscribed 2 meds for withdrawls that I have run out of - the vistaril seemed to help so I'm working to get an ok for a refill but my doc is out of the office today. Is there something else I should ask for to try? I am feeling very desperate.

I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it

Have you tried Atarax (Vistaril) ? It's really a God-send for intense itching. I only had to use it periodically - a couple doses and it seemed to break the "signal" and give me a beak for a while. I don't know much about cortisone, but this med was a life saver for me.

My psych gave me Vistaril, an antihistamine to help with the withdrawals. No nausea or vomiting, made me sleepy. Also was Given Lunesta, a sleeping pill, 1/2 pill as needed at sleep. It's not pain free but it's do-able. Got great info and support from this wonderful site.

t work and when they were severe would have to go to the hospital and be shot full of demerol and vistaril (an antihistamine that made me sleep). It was not until I could sleep would they go away. That sometimes was several rounds from bounceback migraines and I'd be in the ER for days (happened about 4 - 6 months ago). I think taking the Imitrex is probably much better than that.

I started this after knee replacement surgery, for the other knee, and impinged shoulder nerve, and back pain. When I had my surgery, vistaril (hydroxyizine) was used as an adjunct to post op opioidd, as it potentiates the opiods, making them work better. I continued to take vistaril 25 mg with the ultram. Maybe once every couple of months I will get a jerk sensation. Bit if I am feeling jumpy, I take another vistaril and it calms me right down. I also take wellbuttin sporadically.
