antihistamine

Avatar f tn Keep track of all the medications that seem to cause the hives, and maybe even experiment with whether different generics of the same medication have the same side effects (for example one generic atarax is green and another white, which might make a difference if you are allergic to that particular coloring agent). You may even have to have an allergist help you figure out what exactly it is that you are allergic to.
Avatar m tn If it is mild and can be easily managed, going to the gym may be continued but with antihistamine medications. However, if the symptoms persist, you may need to stop it all together. I really recommend that you try to identify the possible triggers so that you could avoid them and see your attending for proper assessment. Best regards.
Avatar m tn Hi, You should continue with the antihistamine medications and review with your skin specialist about how you are doing. You should try to keep the area dry and clean. Try some powder to absorb the sweat. Use a medicated sunscreen lotion - preferably one prescribed by a skin specialist and re apply it every 2 hrs. Apply calamine lotion at the sites. Wash the sites with fresh water several times daily. Let us know if you have any doubts and keep us posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. In your case these can be due to idiopathic hives. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used, whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).
Avatar n tn The mainstay of treatment of hives is antihistamine which may be necessary for prolonged periods (in excess of 6 weeks). Double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine, Loratadine, Acrivastine and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control.
Avatar f tn I believe it is an antihistamnine that is also prescribed for anxiety. It has been around for awhile, although I have never been prescribed it either. With your anxiety, have you ever thought of seeking help through talk therapy if you have access to it? Quite often a little knowledge about this can go a long way in dealing with it in my opinion...keep us posted!
Avatar n tn Hi, You could take some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions to help soothe the itching. Have you had allergic reactions in the past? Are you allergic to any specific substances?

Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to viral rashes or hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications.
Avatar n tn I personally have had very good results at getting rid of or lessening the time of having hives using benedryl. However my hives are a define allergic reaction which is why the antihistamine helps. However, have you already had the chicken pox? Have you been around any young sick children or anyone with the chicken pox? This can include people at a dr's office (because some parent's don't realize how contagious they are).
Avatar n tn This could just be temporary. Antihistamine medications and avoidance of the trigger (sweat) may help. However, do you have a personal or family history of allergies? If it persists, see your doctor for further evaluation. A complete medical history and physical examination will help in determining the outlook. Take care and keep us posted.

Avatar f tn This little bout of hives were taking their time going away and so she thought by taking the antihistamine it would help the process. In the past, she has had hives that appeared to relate to her taking Tylenol or Advil but because she had such a bad headache about 7 days ago, she decided to risk it and take an Advil knowing that she might have a slight reaction but because her headache was so bad, she was willing to risk it.
Avatar m tn These symptoms which respond to an antihistamine are probably hives. If the symptoms are severe and persistent seek the consultation of an allergist for further evaluation and management. Do keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. Also Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin. Application of steroids is also helpful but it needs prescription from a dermatologist. If the symptoms are not subsiding by antihistaminics, then you need to consult a dermatologist and get steroids prescribed.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken cyclosorine for chronic hives? I've had hives on and off since 1992.
Avatar f tn Hello there, It seems that you are suffering from some allergies or some form of vasculitis. It can be from an allergic reaction to something. The other possibility is hives. Hives are commonly the result of illness, food allergies, medications, insect bites, extreme temperatures and hypersensitivities to certain irritants. Take over-the-counter antihistamine like hydroxyzine for relief in symptoms. The rash definitely needs to be looked at and monitored by a physician.

You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g.
