My daughter is suffering from eczema from the time she was 2 months old. Her Ped prescribed antihistamine for itching. We are concerned about the side effects. She does not have any immune system related issues. Her itching increases during the night time and it has been severe since the past 2-3 weeks. Only now we started giving her antihistamine and are concerned about the side effects. Is there any other way to stop her itching.

You may have "physical" or Cholinergic urticaria". Any rash (hives) appear together with itching? Next time when itching start take an antihistamine pill (like Benadryl). If this will help you, it means you have physical urticaria (allergy to heat in your case).

For 6-7 days new body areas became covered in an intolerably itchy rash Over the counter antihistamine helped with the itch. The other thing that helped was scratching spots until I had a small amount of blood -- just a drop or two, and just two or three scratched spots per area (i.e., two or three small spots on my left thigh helped out the whole thigh.) I use Benadryl tabs and hydrocortisone cream for the rash and itching on the body. Also a mild lotion to combat dry skin. The benadryl may help your anal itching. Also keeping sqeaky clean helps. Many of us use Huggies baby wipes every time we go. However, if you have hemorrhoids you can also use hemorrhoid cream and hemorrhoid suppositories and they do help. Keep the room temp. low. Resist scratching. Cold packs on a particularly itchy area may help. Hope that helps.

About three months ago I developed what has been diagnosed by a urologist as a bacterial bladder infection in the left side of my bladder. Around the same time my left hip began itching, but there is absolutely no rash, visible swelling, bumps, or redness. Now I cannot lay on my left side or it highly irritates it. Benadryl and a liberal application of cortaid helped keep the rash and itching at somewhat manageable levels. By the sixth day, the rash and itching had disappearred. For the following 36 weeks of treatment, I still had dry, itchy skin, but nothing like what I had during the Incivek withdrawal period. For about 22years now, I have had this chronic unyielding, head to toe itch with no rash. The only thing that helps is a daily antihistamine. There is no rash or real explanation on what the true trigger is. Doctors think it's in my head. I take a daily allergy pill and have for 22 years.
