Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine for hives

antihistamine

Avatar f tn Also, I figured out I cannot even take some pills like Pepcid for heartburn because they cause hives all over me and are very itchy hives. The hives today were not bad itchy thankfully. Truthfully, I do not what drugs I can take since I can have either no reaction, hives or swelling. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Any suggestions on how to deal with my allergies? I have many allergies but things have been fairly bearable until pollen season. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Here's one for the books. My daughter has had a allergic reaction to an oral antihistamine she took for what appeared to be hives just below the right side of her derriere. This little bout of hives were taking their time going away and so she thought by taking the antihistamine it would help the process.
595729 tn?1219264277 I've had hives for over 5 years, now they turn to blisters on my handand feey. It hurts to wear shoes, not to mention embarrising! I can't sleep because I scratch myself bloody in my sleep. This was all brought on by a medication I was allergic to, that I took two seperate times over 5 years ago. I've been to many Doctors, no one seems to know how to clear them up. I've taken flax seed oils, zink, calisum, everything I can think of. Can anyone PLEASE help me???
Avatar f tn Thanks for your response. I had hives about 4 years back from peanut allergy(I used to eat peanuts before that but that was the first time I got hives), since then I don’t eat peanuts. I went to the doctor few days back but he prescribed me the same antihistamine which I have been taking and it hasn’t helped much. I have been conscious of what I eat and have had different categories of food just to know if one of them is causing it butto no avail.
Avatar n tn I am getting married in one month, and I can't stop worrying about the hives that I get between my legs. My fiancee and I are not sexually active for religious reasons. However, before we met I did engage in some sexual behavior. I have never had sexual intercourse, but have received (never given) oral sex several times from several different women. These hives have worried me so much that I have been twice in the last 3 years to get fully tested for STDs.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have been getting hives on my body for about a month now. It has shown up on my armpits, forearms, elbows, wrists, back, thighs, stomach, and now recently my head has been itching and my ears have been getting hot and red. I have been to a skin doctor and he said it was hives but it could be a million things. I went to my allergist and he said it also can be a lot of things. I am 21 years old and this it the first time this has been happening to me.

Avatar f tn That's a lot of Xyzal. I take 5mg/day and it's the most beneficial antihistamine I've ever taken. I've taken 10mg before and it knocked me out...lol. If I feel I need more antihistamine, I add Benadryl, but it's not often that I need to do that. My answer: I've heard of people taking 10mg/day for hives and severe itching. I'm not sure how the dosing would be, but I can't imagine taking that much of it in the morning/daytime because it's so sedating.
Avatar m tn i just want to ask if there some side effects of the medicine that i am taking, fexofenadine?? another thing is for 1 week now my hives just gone, is there a possibility it will appear again?
Avatar n tn The mainstay of treatment of hives is antihistamine which may be necessary for prolonged periods (in excess of 6 weeks). Double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine, Loratadine, Acrivastine and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control.
Avatar m tn I used to take antihistamine everyday for 5 years as living without them at the time was impossible. Untill one day, when i decided i will not take anymore, mainly to see how my body would react after days of being attacked by itself with no medication. Ironically, after a solid week of torture and no sleep, the itching started to slowly subside. It has since reduced to about 50% of what it was but it is still here and still making life very uncomfortable.
620048 tn?1358018235 I have been having hives for a few momths and have been seeing my Drs. for awhile now. I had steroid infections twice and it knocks it out the next day but you can not have them very often. And I have been taking antihistamines the whole time but I am trying different ones hoping, like Melissa, that one will work. Other than that I stll have no answers. Its not that easy I am finding out. But I can't sleep, which i have trouble with anyway,. I posted a pic of one leg on here...
Avatar n tn Take her off the ALLERGIA as that can cause bad hives. I got horrible leg pains and hives down both my legs that by the time I knew what caused it I had to use antibiotics to heal it. Try children's ZYRTEC and one Tagament a day. Watch for an hr to see if she gets a allergic reaction to what ever she uses or eats if earache, coughing, itching start remove what ever she is using or eating for one week.
Avatar m tn I thought they might be hives [since their behavior of only being there for a day and then moving elsewhere fits what I read about hives online] but they don't look as red as hives do from the pics I've seen online. Any idea what this might be? Thanks!!
Avatar n tn Rupafin, containing the active ingredient rupatadine, is a non-sedating antihistamine indicated for allergies. Side effects such as headache dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue and asthenia may be possible but like any other medicine, these may or may not be present in all patients who are taking this medicine. It is also recommended that you discuss this with your attending physician prior to taking it. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I have had on-and-off unexplained hives for over a year now. It really started two years ago, which I thought was a new allergic reaction to shellfish. The doctor gave me steroids. This past year, I got them again and had been eating shellfish, so thought it was the same thing. I got steroids, they gave me bad dreams. Hives didn't go away. Back to the doctor for different steroids, prednisone?, hives eventually went away.
Avatar f tn Hello, Skin rash and itching is a common side effect of Thiamzole and this itchy skin rash that your mother is having can be due to hives as a result of the side effect of this drug. For such hives, first of all the medication needs to be changed to some other drug. Then the primary treatment is by oral antihistamines. The most potent antihistamine, however, is probably the anti-depressant doxepin. You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area.
