Avatar m tn My eyes at times get very dry and itchy, as well as sometimes feel like there's pressure behind them. My nasal membranes also dry up at times. These symptoms seem the worst during changes of season, so I've always assumed that its allergies. That said, most people that I know who have allergies complain more about runny noses, sneezing, etc., which doesn't seem to happen much with me. So, can someone confirm that this is indeed allergies and not something else?
Avatar n tn s become inflammed and red underneath my eyebrows, and around to the outsides of my eyes. Whenever I put moisturizer on it, all it does is burn. I've tried multiple moisturizers, and nothing is working. I recently bought new acne medication, do you think I could be allergic to it? Or is it just because I need to drink more water or something like that?
Avatar n tn You should see a dermatologist about it. If it's itchy, a bit of hydrocortisone cream might help, as well as a little benedryl. Even if it's not itchy, the hydrocortisone would help with the red and swollen. You shouldn't use it long term without asking a doctor, though, because too much steroid cream can thin the skin, and they eyes already have thin skin. As for lotion, don't use it. Lotion has alcohol in it so it will dry fast, and can dry you out more.

Avatar n tn I live is a very dry climate and I work on computers all day long. It really drys out the eyes in this climate. I used to have symptoms like blood shot eyes, and pain in the eye in the morning. The cure I found was to buy a really good humidifier for my room and treat my eyes with eye drops whenever they start to feel dry. The problem has gone away, and I am convinced, that at least for myself, that was the problem. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn antihistimines can dry the eyes and maybe this is causing you problems with your contact lenses!
Avatar m tn But in general, with severe dry eyes you want to avoid the ingredients of diphenhydramine (benadryl) or phenyephrine/pseudophedrine (sudafed), brompheniramine (bromfed) because they will worsen your dry eyes. Basically its the decongestants that can worsen dry eyes and blood pressure and the antihistamines that will worsen dry eyes. You may be able to use a once a day antihistamine like claritin or zyrtec which have fewer systemic side effects.
Avatar f tn The field of vision was perfectly normal for both eyes. Corneal oedema or injury has also been excluded and a treatment has been started with eyedrops, "dry eyes" being the working diagnosis. Today, I wasn't even able to recognize people in back light conditions as everything seemed blurred and in low light conditions the letters in books seem to be blurry, too, at normal reading distance. Needless to say, I'm worried.
Avatar m tn Does anyone ever have dry eyes and slight tingling sensation in the head from allergy/ sinus problems, as opposed to actual pain?
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I have had eczema and dry skin since I was a child and it has been largely controlled. I don't know what my current situation is but my face has been getting more red. The redness also seems to stand, at times, in stark contrast to patchy, blanched areas of white around my eyes. The skin is smooth to the touch and not bumpy, just red with white patches. It's really annoying and causes me to be extremely self-conscious. Any idea?

Most are willing to set up a payment schedule to retire your account. Use the search feature and archives to read about "dry eyes" and "blepharitis" they often occur together. Red eyelides is usally due to one or both.
Avatar n tn I had an itchy left eye (not much in the right eye) for several days. Oral antihistamine did not work, neither did some dated eye moistener (not sure if fresh would work better) and one other OTC eye drop. Got no relief. Next I tried Similasan Allergy Eye Relief. My eye improved immediately and after three or four days of using these drop 3 or 4 times a day and the itch is gone. I have used the drops only once a day, some days not at all. Not sure it was allergic or something else.
Avatar n tn Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g.
203342 tn?1328737207 ve had this headache and tired eyes all day. The headache is in the front forehead area and my eyes just feel tired, heavy, dry and sore. I went to bed early last night too! I just don't get this. I take Tylenol and Advil and it doesn't seem to help. It just seems like it has to get out of my system. Sure wish I could figure this out so I could avoid this. It's getting pretty tiresome as I feel kind of out of it when I get these.
Avatar n tn After it finally cleared up, my eyes stopped producing their own tears. They were so dry in the morning and night (especially in the morning) I would have to pry them open with my fingers. I'm still having major problems, but one thing that has helped A LOT was going on Restasis. Be wary though... my doc also told me to take some drops that had an antihistamine it it. It counteracted what the Restasis was supposed to do and left me worse off than before.
Avatar n tn help my face is swollen dry burns a bit and kind of itchy. it started yesterday and this morning I had swollen eyes, lips and little pink rash on arms. I took Loratadine and nothing!!!! no new foods, lotions. I am allergic to dust but never had a reaction like this. I look UGLY.
Avatar m tn You could just have chronic allergies and need to take patenol longer and use oral antihistamine as well. Dry eyes could be involved. Oral flax and fish oil may help. Maybe you didn't take the doxy long enough - perhaps minocycline very low dose with food might be easier on you. Sterilid or Ocusoft Plus lid cleanser pads might help for certain cases. I expect culture to be negative because you have been on antibiotics and often these cases are not bacteria related. Michael J.

Avatar m tn Hi, I need someones help, i have had my eye problem for a few years now and it has been impossible to cope with.... My eyes are always irrated and feel extremely dry, they water and sting outdoors and are very irrated and bone dry indoors and out.
Avatar n tn You could take some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions to help soothe the itching. Have you had allergic reactions in the past? Are you allergic to any specific substances?
Avatar n tn Another one some time back told me its because your eyes are dry and that artificial tears may help. I have tried this but it does not seem to be as that. I would like to request an opinion as to what might be the cause or if this can be fixed. I have done a google search on "itchy eye" and usually it points towards dry eyes. Just a note: my vision is perfect and there are no other problems other than losing the bottom eye lashes due to extensive rubbing of both eyes.
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate symptoms a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). But they are available under prescription and should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
