hormone

Avatar f tn Antidiuretic hormone (ADH or vasopressin) is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. ADH deficiency is known as diabetes insipidus. Symptoms are frequent thirst and urination. Treatment is desmopressin (synthetic replacement for vasopressin) - taken 2 to 3 times a day.
Avatar f tn Did they test your sodium level in your blood or a 24 hour urine test for sodium? What about testing your thyroid function & ADH or antidiuretic hormone, which helps regulate water in your body? Did they do a color doppler on your legs to test circulation? Peripheral vascular disease can affect extremities with pain and swelling. My grandma had PVD. Your heart's okay you say, but what about your triglycerides and cholesterol levels?
Avatar f tn A low BUN/Creatinine ratio may be associated with a diet low in protein, a severe muscle injury called rhabdomyolysis, pregnancy, Cirrhosis, or syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH). SIADH sometimes occurs with lung disease, cancer, diseases of the central nervous system, and the use of certain medications. I gave you more info in your personal message.
Avatar f tn This can be tested to be sure that signal is working with a 1 microgram acth stimulation test, cortisol is measured before and after giving a copy of the hormone that the pituitary makes, if the adrenal gland makes good cortisol with the acth then we know that there has been communication and that this track is working. The next hormone needed to assess is antidiuretic hormone, which also comes from the pituitary, it is the hormone that helps us hold on to water by acting at the kidneys.
Avatar f tn It is caused by problems with the antidiuretic hormone (vasopressin) that helps to regulate the amount of liquid in the body. The hormone is made by the hypothamalums which is in the pituitary gland. In diabetes insipidus, there is either not enough hormome being produced, or there is enough hormone but the kidneys fail to respond.
Avatar f tn //emedicine.medscape.com/article/246650-overview ...which is from too much water being retained. This is because of what happens inside the kidneys. Has she gained a lot of water weight? I'd first think of a Nephrologist (kidney doctor), then maybe an Endocrinologist. But Oncologists should be familiar with all of this anyway. E.g.
Avatar n tn During such periods I have polyuria, high serum osmolality and high serum Na+. My antidiuretic hormone decreses during water deprivation, although it should instead increase. Doctors do not agree that I have DI.
Avatar f tn Have they done any other endocrine testing besides thyroid, like ADH (antidiuretic hormone which has to do with urine output), growth hormone, FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) (ruling out pituitary disorder another words, like a tumor it is said one in five people have). What about your calcium and vit. D levels? A lot of people who have even tiny tumors called microadenomas do not function normally. No sign of inflammation- did they test your cortisol then as well?
486038 tn?1300063367 Kathy I fogot to say that they also said that I should drink 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. Now that is just an insanely LOT OF WATER!!!!! ugh!!!! Avatar m tn Angiotensin II helps increase blood pressure by causing the arterioles to constrict, by triggering the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system, and by triggering the release of two other hormones, aldosterone and antidiuretic hormone (also called vasopressin), which cause the kidneys to increase the retention of salt and water. The kidneys normally produce substances that cause arterioles within the kidney to dilate.

Besides this, thyroid hormone is necessary for the healthy metabolism of cholesterol so low thyroid hormone will cause cholesterol levels to rise. With your other symptoms, the most likely cause of your high cholesterol is hypothyroidism. The most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (autoimmune hypothyroidism) which is confirmed by testing thyroid antibodies. You can develop costochodritis with hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn Thyroid replacement hormone goes into your blood, and blood gets filtered. But if hormone got filtered out, you would die. The T4 (thyroxine) is changed to the active hormone T3 (triiodothyroninevia) mostly in the the liver and hypothalamus, and brain. This process is a called two deiodinases (or something like that)..... One atom of iodine is lost per molecule (deiodinated) - thus, the change from 4 to 3. T3 is absorbed into cell tissue via blood.

Avatar f tn Excess Potassium is removed from the body by the Kidneys and so this would be a starting point. The Hormone aldosterone controls the rate at which the kidneys remove potassium, water and sodium from the blood and this hormone is a steriod type produced in the adrenal gland. Some medications as a side effect act as a aldosterone inhibitor. The technical term for high potassium is hyperkalemia and there can be a few symptoms. These include nausea, slow/weak pulse or abnormal heart rhythms.
Avatar f tn There are many different kinds and she would have to talk to her doctor about the best one for her, but I prefer the monophasic kind. This is the same amount of hormone in each pill, but she may prefer the triphasic which mimics the body's natural cycle more. So there ya go! Tell us how it goes!

This pregnancy my kidney seems to always feel swollen. Especially once I start feeling like I have to pee. I can hardly get comfortable laying down because of it. I've never had kidney stones and would hope to not ever get them.
