antibiotics

Avatar m tn By using a condom, that is the preventive care that you need. Really. In dealing with STDs or even HIV, we encourage sexually active people to be tested from time to time. That is like a health check report card. If there's any problem, get treatment. Please do not self-treat, by getting antibiotics and etc. Taking medicines without supervision will create drugs-resistance problem. Bottom line: You used a condom. A condom protected intercourse protects you from HIV and most of the STDs.
Avatar m tn Antibiotics would have eliminated the threat for std transmissions however what kind of antibiotics were prescribed to you. Not all antibiotics are the same, you know? But I am sure antibiotics given to you may be able to help in some way.
Avatar m tn you were never at risk for anything that azithromycin would be effective for. don't take antibiotics needlessly!!
Avatar m tn The antibiotics will not do anything to protect you. If you are receiving oral sex there is a chance of contracting HSV-1 he or she has it.
Avatar m tn I had sex with a sex worker. A condom was used but immediately after intercourse I noticed a discomfort in the area around the base of my penis that was perhaps not fully covered during full penetration. It is not around the entire circumference of the base but limited to about an area the size of a dime. Within five minutes I took a hot shower and was quite liberal with the soap.
Avatar m tn Well it depends on your exposure, whether it was unprotected or not.
Avatar m tn I recently had a one-time casual encounter with an escort, the only one person that I have had sex other than my wife. Apart from the guilt, I am worried about the STDs that could have transmitted. Before the intercourse, skin contact/foreplay was minimal for 5 mins. We used a condom from the beginning of the intercourse to the end, and withdrew immediately after ejaculation. The intercourse may have lasted just over a minute. We did not kiss orally and did not have any oral sex.
Avatar m tn 1. The antibiotics you mention would also typically cure or prevent most common STDs including chlamydia and gonorrhea. 2. No taking preventative antibiotics is not a good idea. It leads to drug reactions, antibiotic resistant infections and difficulty in evaluating symptoms when they occur. 3. There are no recommended tests for HPV and testing is not recommended.
Avatar n tn My only advice. Avoid Prostitutes. They can look all good and lovely, but they are not lovely once they give their disease. I have been with two, they were young and always used protected sex. I am not doing it again because after joining thir forum my eye are way open. Its better to masturbate watching porn than getting a disease from a prostitute. The itching can be normal. Make sure Petroleum Jelly a little.
Avatar f tn I got a hand job and a vibrator was used briefly on my bare penis (no condoms used). She was a pro dominatrix who claims to clean toys.... Since the next day I have had very itchy and burning tip of the penis, no obvious discharge and it does NOT burn when I pee. I was prescribed a week later antibiotics for Trich and chlamydia which I took, and subsequently tested neg for chlamydia and Gon but the symptoms still remain. Currently waiting on further test results but my question is this...
Avatar m tn The problem with starting antibiotics is that not all antibiotics work against all STDs and they tend to both have their own side effects and to just confuse things if symptoms do occur. I would not recommend it. If you feel you must, the only antibiotic I would recommend at this time is doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 14 days. 3. See above. HIV is not really a concern. Take care.
Avatar m tn Doxycycline effectively treats and cures most bacterial STDs, including chlamydia, syphilis, and most cases of gonorrhea (depending in part on the dose). Accordingly, it will make gonorrhea and chlamydia tests negative, and may result in lower strength in RPR and VDRL, commonly used to diagnose syphilis. But this isn't really the same as "interference": that is, the tests themselves work just fine after or during doxycycline treatment.
Avatar f tn At the end of july, I abruptly came down with very uncomfortable symptoms, such as a frequent need to urinate, burning after urinating, and irritation at the head of my penis. Upon going to my doctor, I was tested for uti'sand stds. I was also put on doxycycline as a blanket antibiotic because it was unknown what was wrong. I was very concerned because I had had an affair that included receiving unprotected oral sex, along with a history of a lot of unsafe oral sex.
Avatar n tn some bacterial skin infections can be treated with topical antibiotics, others need oral antibiotics - your provider will be able to decide which you need should you develop any rashes.
Avatar f tn And, more importantly, when was the last time you screen for STDs? I always encourage people to test for STDs as part of health check for every sexually active person.
Avatar n tn I am confused- The antibiotics I took won't help? Can someone please explain why not?
Avatar m tn I went to a different urgent care this time in which they gave me more diflucan (yeast infection pills) and another dosage of antibiotics assuming that it never fully cleared (they did not run me for stds having been tested twice before). In the mean time, they ran an in-depth analysis of my cultures in which it revealed some rare type of bacterial infection in which I was given ANOTHER dose of antibiotics for a week. For 2 weeks after that, I was fine until about 4 days ago....
Avatar n tn Well, although relatively rare, your progressive symptoms are compatible with prostatitis. While it used to be thought that much prostatitis was caused by STDs, that now appears to be only a minor contributor. Levofloxacin (Levaquin) is a good starting point for treatment. Sometimes, it takes several weeks of therapy to resolve. It sounds as though you are doing everything right. Congratulations. Continue to work with your urologist.
Avatar m tn I was on a dose of antibiotics last week. Do you think antibiotics can cause this penile itching and constant feeling to pee.?
Avatar n tn So he went to his physician who was easy to prescribe antibiotics. In this case the antibiotic, Amoxicillin did nothing for him. So he was prescribed it again and yes again until his doctor changed antibiotics and after a long 2 months the symptoms seemed to fade. He had lost weight, noticed he lost his complexion, felt symptoms of low testosterone, and became depressed. He described himself as feeling diseased. He had not totally recovered from his illness.
Avatar m tn This may describe why Sb is so successful when used with other antibiotics. I presume when used on triple therapy with other antibiotics it would be even better. Regardless, I don’t suggest anyone to try all sorts of antibiotics now with Sb because it doesn’t heal PATM permanently and will only cause resistance to those antibiotics. However, if anyone has used some of them before I would like to know what you’ve observed.
Avatar f tn Are there any blood tests I can take instead of urethral swab sample that will be as sensitive for ruling out STDs? I notice a number of tests from the lab here (e.g. chlamydia - PCR on urine sample or antibody on blood, gonorrhea - PCR on swab sample - can a semen sample be used instead, etc.) Thanks!
Avatar m tn In my haste I did not even wash it but used a condom before I put it in my mouth. Do STDs live on things like that, it in case the object was used before, am I at risk of HIV or Herpes ? How long do to these virus survive outside the body. Thank you in advance.
