Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics used in livestock feed

3060903 tn?1398568723 Mercola The featured video is a fascinating visual demonstration of how bacteria develop resistance to increasingly high doses of antibiotics. In this experiment, E. coli bacteria develop increasing resistance, ultimately surviving antibiotics at a dose 1,000 times higher than they could initially survive, and they do so in a matter of 11 days! Tami Lieberman, Ph.D.
Avatar m tn In the 1970s, the FDA ruled drug manufacturers had to prove their antibiotics did not contribute to resistance or lose their drug approval. Industry research proved antibiotics in animal feed led to rapid resistance — findings the industry rebuffed, and the FDA has ignored ever since. Inappropriate use of antibiotics in farming bears the heaviest responsibility for creating the antibiotic-resistant superbug crisis of today. An estimated 80 percent of total antibiotic sales in the U.S.
148588 tn?1465782409 This toxic substance is fatal when consumed in high doses. Livestock farmers feed their chicken arsenic because it increases growth (resulting in more profit), treats some diseases and produces better pigment in the meat. Severe cases of arsenic poisoning have caused stomach cramps, blood in urine and a metallic taste in the mouth.
Avatar m tn Synthetic urea is another artificial ingredient used because it promotes weight gain in cattle. The overuse of antibiotics to combat diseases caused by inhumane livestock practices is troublesome enough. But the fact is cattle are also intentionally fed antibiotics to fatten them up. This blatant abuse of the drugs is a major contributor to antibiotic resistance. Just because you eat whole grains doesn't mean the cattle whose meat you eat should.

The complaints prompted the Center for Science in the Public Interest to urge the FDA in 2011 to revoke the ingredient's GRAS status.
Avatar m tn Food animals raised in North Carolina alone ingest more antibiotics than the entire American public. About 80 percent of all antibiotics used in the U.S. go to nonorganic farm animals to help speed livestock growth and counteract filthy, stressful housing situations that debilitate the animals' immune systems. The lack of accountability for the meds in industrial farming might surprise you.
Avatar m tn If it had come from California it would have been free of antibiotics because states have different regulations governing antibiotics in meat. After that I avoided commercial meat and dairy products and farm raised fish religiously and for six year was free of drug reactions. Finally, here in Honolulu I feel off the wagon an ate some foods I shouldn't have. Sure enough another fixed drug reaction.
Avatar m tn A clear example of this is the additives food in meat supplies of livestock which were feed food which actually raised non-organically. Something to think about if one is that concerned about their food supply being totally natural.
Avatar f tn If we stroke her she purrs and has been purring and making sounds like she used to. She doesn't seem to be in pain, no yowling. She has opened the eye which she was bleeding out a little. Now it remains shut. From what I could see is that there is a scratch on the white eye covering. Is it possible to realign the jaw by ourselves? Should I just let her be? How many times a day should I feed her. Our main concern is the jaw. I don't know if it would make things worse if w try to realign it.
Avatar n tn On the other hand, although there’s no way to know for sure here, the corn used in making many pet foods can be similar to the kind used to make feed for livestock. And that can sometimes be problematic. What’s more, corn is commonly linked to canine food allergies1. For these reasons, we rarely consider corn a preferred component in any dog food. The second ingredient is soybean meal. Soybean meal is actually a useful by-product.
1092972 tn?1263051108 (I made that term up) Everyone should study antibiotics and fungus infections, I think it is the covered-up epidemic of modern medicine. Interesting that antibiotics are quietly being removed from livestock feed- sorry, I should be responsible and cite the source of that, but I forget. Well, I better shut my yap, I'm sure you'll catch my preaching somewhere else. I'll be bringing it up lots, I'm sure. If our Doctors were Mechanics, we'd all be walking.

The second item is chicken by-product meal… a dry rendered product of slaughterhouse waste.
1917408 tn?1421955640 And the fact that the main focus of the firefighters so far has been to save people's houses, and we live in a 'tear-down'house but have all the materials for a new house stored in truck trailers, so it would be hard to trust the message to get through: " Let the house burn; save the semi-trailers!" And I don't think I did too badly w/ my higher than normal anxiety, but there was a noticeable difference since the last time I was behind the evacuation lines of a fire.
Avatar n tn Also, there aren't many liver dialysis units out there at this time, and I don't know enough about them to even know if many of them could be used in this manner or in these experiments, or if they would need to be modified first, or if completely new machines would need to be built. Its interesting though.
Avatar m tn ly/jYH7nt Through the EPA, he took steps to severely limit the use of antibiotics in livestock feed, to increase their efficacy in humans. He increased funding for National Parks and Forests by 10% He announced greatly improved commercial fuel efficiency standards. He announced the development of a huge increase in average fuel economy standards from 27.5mpg to 35.5mpg starting in 2016 and 54.5 starting in 2025 http://1.usa.
Avatar f tn It took me 3months to get of pain killers and antibiotics and to feel normal again. But after that I have only had two UTI in a year which I think is cause of the surgery. Also I take cranberry tablets every day the higher does the better and drink at least 2.5 L of water a day. But to get to the point, I have only had 3 yeast infections but they start at my clitoris and itch and burn like crazy and have found the little white stuff around the hood?
Avatar n tn I have rarely eaten out, looking over my journal, 3 times in the last 2 weeks. That's better than what I used to, about cut in half. I really didn't think my diet was that horrible to begin with, pretty average, but there was something that caused my body to start attracting insects and once it was at that point, I just couldn't seem to do anything for it.
Avatar f tn 3- Refrain from eating meat and sugar for a while, because they feed the worms. Eat veggies and fruits and foods that are rich in fiber. Some ppl do the pineapple cure in which you eat&drink nothing but pineapple and pineapple juice for 3 days, worms can't take that much acid and die. You can also eat one tablespoon of coconut everyday in the breakfast. Also a small cup of grated carrot taken every morning is said to be offensive to all kinds of parasites.
