1545371 tn?1330798707 I have an 8 year old cat and he is my baby. He is such a bigt softie. I would love a puppy and am going tomorrow to look at a bassett hound pup. I was wondering if the cat will be ok and will he adapt to the puppy without too much trouble.
Avatar n tn I am having the same problem. I have 2 cavachons( they are 1/2 Bichon & 1/2 King Charles spaniel:) My girl is 3 1/2 months & her cough sounds like she's trying to hack something up. Antibiotics didn't work & now I give her a 1/4 tab of Benadryl a day. It seems to be helping a little, but still concerned.
1678412 tn?1304570878 I have a month and a half old rottweiler puppy, he's been having diarrhea ( stringy brown mucous stools) which started later this morning. My mom asked her friend about what meds to give to the pup and her friende told her to give the pup "cotrimoxazole" is it safe for the puppy? ...I gave the pup this med awhile ago, should I panic if the diarrhea doesn't stop?
Avatar n tn You also need to pick up a tube of NutriCal from your vet and give the puppy doses of NutriCal (which is a very high calorie supplement) to help maintain his weight and strength during treatment. As I said, though, if this puppy is at home, he needs to be in the ICU at the vet's with an IV hookup to make sure dehydration does not occur.
Avatar f tn My 7 month old puppy Kodi (Husky/Boxer) isn't feeling to well :( The first 2 days he was eating small portions which isn't like him. He is always hungry. Since then he hasn't been able to keep anything down, food and water. His vomit looks kind of yellow and is slimy. Day 3, yesterday morning, I brought him to the vet. She examined him and of course he didn't act very sick. His heart rate is good, not high. Didn't have a high fever. Isn't dehydrated.
Avatar n tn All the licking and scratching can also lead to infection.....Expressing them is a simple procedure.....Make the call.....Your puppy will thank you for it........
1035252 tn?1427227833 Lol this thread is cute and ivy- you are nuts!! DH said all he wants for xmas is for me to let him get a puppy i love dogs but a 3 yr old 2 yr old and a newborn plus a puppy... NO way! Maybe when we get a bigger place! I havent broke the news to DH yet:/ ps..
Avatar n tn These symptoms can be from a number of serious ailments. Dehydration alone,(From vomiting) can kill a puppy quickly. There is nothing you can do at home to help this little guy. He/she needs a Vet immediately! Pawn your computer, sell a piece of furniture in your driveway, cancel your internet service, DO SOMETHING to get the money to save what is now your responsibilty!!!! This is clearly a bad breeding situation and the breeder needs to have charges filed against him/her.
424531 tn?1203412110 Your best bet would be to have your vet take a look at him. If that rash is due to dog bites, he'll probably need antibiotics. That looks like a right nasty rash, and could be something else - like mange or flea bite dermatitis, all of which need a vet's attention. Enjoy your new pup!
634745 tn?1256844310 The quickest, easiest way to housetrain a puppy is to crate train them. Purchase a crate or borrow one from someone with the understanding that you will need it for at least a few months. You want to be sure that the puppy has room to move around in the crate, but not so much room that they can sleep down one end and poop and pee at the other end. The idea here is that a dog instinctively will not poop or pee where they sleep.
Avatar n tn If not properly cared for, the necrotic tissue can spread and affect the healthy tissue around it. This puppy needs to be seen by a vet. Why is taking him to a vet not an option?
Avatar f tn Finally after seven months I told her I would take him to a vet out her Monteray Park, California. Well to my saddness, Punchy is a critical stage of renal faliure. I am very sad, I don't know what to tell my mom. He is my mom's life. Over all, I am praying that Punchy beats the odds and makes some kind of recovery. He is so young, I don't know what to expect. Please if any one has experience any thing like this with their puppy, please give me hope.
Avatar f tn I hope this puppy, being 4months old, has had some shots already!! If the pup got any immunity from the mother, it will have been worn off by now so I certainly would be giving shots and soon. Ghilly's advice is spot on. I have given my dogs shots also. As Lepto is really not a problem in my area, I did not give the combo with the Lepto. Often, if a dog is going to react, it will be to the Lepto.
Avatar f tn Sounds like kennel cough. That will not kill your puppy, but you need to get her to a vet for antibiotics. It'll take your puppy 1-4 weeks to get over the hacking cough, depending on how long she's had the cough and how badly it's supressed her immune system. As for losing teeth, that's normal. Her baby teeth are falling out and adult teeth will grow in, just like children's teeth do.
Avatar m tn I am older and have very thin skin, and I bleed quite a bit. Before I realized he broke the skin I tried to talk to the man. He said puppy was Japanese, but he didn't speak English. I went inside and looked down and I had blood on my shirt and arm. I didn't think too much about it, until I started getting these pains in my back and shoulder and neck, it feels like the pain is in my bones. I have never had anything like this before, especially to come on so fast.
372900 tn?1315512302 re going to get a handle on this is to either feed them in separate rooms (with the puppy behind a closed door) or to put the puppy in a crate for feedings and keep her in there until the older dog is finished eating. It's not fair to the older dog to have the puppy taking her food, and it's not good for the puppy to be getting double the amount of food she should be getting. Although, depending on how old the puppy is, she should probably be eating three times a day and not two.
Avatar n tn I took her in for a friend who was left with no where else to take her but a shelter due to her landlord. Three little fur babies is such a handful but I suppose ill be worse off when my little one arrives. Just think of it as training to learn patience haha.
Avatar m tn I will give you the standard advice for vomiting. Withhold food and give water only for eight hours. If he can't even hold down water initially, then withhold water for eight hours. After he is holding down water, try chicken or beef broth. The best broth is home-made bone broth, but if you have to use canned broth, it is okay. Some dogs will drink Pedialyte or Gatorade in place of broth, which is also okay, but mine won't drink it.
Avatar f tn The symptoms that you listed ARE textbook for Juvenile Kidney Disease, however they can also signal a urinary tract infection. The fact that you say she has a greenish discharge says that she may have puppy vaginitis, which can lead to a urinary tract infection. The fact that her kidney values are within normal range right now doesn't mean that she doesn't have juvenile kidney disease, however.
Avatar f tn I recently adopted a 1 year old puppy and slowly introduced her to my 11 year old Border Collie Mix. After about 2 weeks of using leashes and a baby gate, they began playing and looking like the best of friends. We had company and my older dog became jealous and attacked the puppy. No damage was done but alot of noise and slobber. My kids are very upset about this and now my older dog is showing aggression.
Avatar n tn Hi Everyone, I took into my care a 6 week old puppy, that was nearly dead due to hook worms...I immediately brought him to a local vet that was on call that night...he took him in for three days, gave him a blood transfusion, antibiotics, so on and now he is mentally a okay!..But, when I picked him up from the vet his back right leg was stiff and his two left legs were not functioning properly.
Avatar f tn They appear to be gone today, but after I took my puppy for a walk this morning, I noticed small red bumps on my feet and they itched. Is this an allergic reaction to the antibiotics?
Avatar m tn The pup that had the tick might just have a sore foot from the tick. Give it a couple days, and call the vet. They give info over the phone, too.
Avatar f tn i didn't mean to sound rude when i was writing, i do have patience.
335728 tn?1331414412 t try to heel until she can be walked on leash for 30 minutes without difficulty. Use a choke training collar to train to heel. It might be helpful to take her to a puppy training class given at any local pet shelter or pet shop.
Avatar n tn t try to feed her. It definitely sounds like you need to get your puppy to the Vet for a check up.
1337905 tn?1275843954 Vet gave ivermectin shot and told me to dip him in paramite once a week. Then next week give him an advantage multi a day after his dip. The box says not to use it on puppies under 12 weeks, but the vet said to do it and I did. Getting a lot of grief from people at the shelter who say I should use a lyme-sulfur dip. I am not a vet (and neither are they) so I hate to just change the treatment. He is also on an antibiotic.
