Avatar n tn what I wanted to know is ...... both of these are resistant to antibiotics......are they both resistant to penecillins and if so is there any point in ever giving her penecillin antibiotics for any infection over the years or should we use a different family of antibiotics? In other words ....could she be inherently/genetically (probably wrong words) resistant to penecillin????? Poor mite also has had chicken pox, hepatitis A, chest infection for at least 5 weeks but now gone thank god.
163305 tn?1333668571 When the public start demanding meat that has not seen antibiotics—because they understand that the meat may contain antibiotic resistant bacteria—only then will real progress be made." —David Brown, Antibiotic Research UK As the BBC wrote, "The concern is that colistin-resistance will now find its way into other superbugs to create infections that doctors cannot treat.
Avatar f tn i was the diagnosed with salmonella at the end of january and given antibiotics. i gave another bowel sample last week and results today show i still have salmonella. i have been prescribed ciproflaxacino and sulfintestin now for 10 days.
Avatar f tn They are probably pretty used to seeing that there so would be able to identify them. They can also do a culture on the stool to see if you got Salmonella or Shigella which comes from contaminated food. Also does it hurt to urinate or do you have frequent urination? If so it could be a urinary tract infection. It sometimes hurts in the groin area. In which case antibiotics can help. You should really see a doctor despite your fear of seeing one. Ask the locals for a good one.
Avatar m tn She got blood and stool samples, I believe it was the blood sample that showed up salmonella (although it might have been the stool). They put her on antibiotics, and it didn’t go away. We later moved and she went to another doctor. Same thing, blood and stool and salmonella was found. More antibiotics, nothing changes. By now she thinks she can control her symptoms by cutting out certain foods like onion, garlic, bell peppers etc.
Avatar n tn That being said, taking inappropriate antibiotics may cause the mutation of bacteria and result in a strain resistant to that class of antibiotics. If you have no allergy to this antibiotic, there would be no harmful effects against oral administration. The problem, as with all antibiotics is that a course of treatment must be followed, usually for five to seven days or longer, and a single dose will invariably result in development of antibiotic resistant organisms.
Avatar n tn That does make it difficult. Sometimes though, seeing a physician with a specialty who has a greater scope of patients suffering the similar issues can be very valuable. If your doctor is grasping at straws, they well be missing something although I'm sure they are trying their best. If you are not well after this round of antibiotics, I would ask your physician what type of specialist would be best to see. While it is hard to miss work, this situation is greatly impacting your life.
Avatar f tn Ask you doctor for a Culture & Sensitivity (C & S) urinary analysis. In the mean time, you should increase your liquid intake, but not from coffee, tea or alcohol. This should ease a lot of the burning. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Pseudomonas is typically a very hard bacteria to kill and becomes drug resistant when antibiotics are used very often. My daughter had pseudomonas several months ago and had to have her ear swabbed and cultured. The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13).
Avatar f tn As much as I want to help with regards to your question on antibiotics, it is important to note that antibiotics are prescribed based on the working diagnosis and the most likely organisms causing your condition. Also, it is important to take note of your age and other underlying medical conditions. Let us wait for the results of the culture as this will help guide the next step of treatment. A kidney, ureter and bladder CT scan will be able to help visualize structures involved.
Avatar f tn Could it be that I reacted positively to Amoxil-Clav and me being symptom free was due to its residual effect? Could it be that bacteria became resistant to Amoxicillin? I was taking 2000mg Amoxicilin a day. I also made quite a break when changing medication. I took Amox-Clav pills at 9 in the evening, and next dose of antibiotic at 2pm another day.
1691275 tn?1322327507 If you fail to complete the amoxcillin you risk developing an amoxcillan resistant strain. Generally medical practice is not to over-use antibiotics to prevent the development of resistant strains. Not completing a full course of antibiotics of any specific type is a good way to develop resistance to that type.
Avatar m tn Since you've had so many antibiotics, you could get some "probiotics" in you. Antibiotics kill both "good" and bad bacteria, so probiotics restores the good bacteria that helps break down waste. Two weeks of Activia yogurt or Acidophilus milk, as examples, or a pill kind from the health food store should straighten that part out for you.
Avatar f tn I finished this course of antibiotics about a week and a half ago, and went in for my (hopefully) final set of swabs today. Results will be available early next week. Although I've been given pretty hardcore antibiotics, I'm not entirely sure that they have worked, and I think I might still be Chlamydia positive. Does anybody know of any cases where the Chlamydia has been drug resistant? And if so, how was the Chlamydia treated?
358455 tn?1277433619 Hi ...Salmonella could be very serious and it need an immediate medical attention ...you guys don’t even know if it's salmonella it might be a total different organism that mimics the salmonella symptoms . i had a microbiology class some of those organisms can have a long consequences that lasts a life time. Avatar f tn I've had a UTI that is a resistant little bugger. Got a culture..took Ceftin for 7 days. Must not have gone away, and now am on Macrobid for 7 days. 2 pills left and I still have the infection. Doctor said I would likely need IV Antibiotics and wants me to come in on Friday to do another culture before they do that. Here's my question..they didn't give me a lot of information on that. Has anyone else had IV antibiotics? Do you have to be hospitalized to get them?
Avatar n tn Four days ago I finished antibiotics for cervisitis, vaginosis, and a fungal infection, no I am having a burning, itchy, brown clumpy discharge. My question is, Why are the symptoms occuring after and what could this be?
Avatar n tn t really get tested right now but do have access to antibiotics. Intend to get tested for everything in a few weeks when I return home. In the meantime, I'm fairly certain I have chalmydia. That is redness and swelling around the urethral meatus (I'm a man) itchy and burning urethra and painful urination (all of which are mild except for the redness.) There is a significant amount of discharge and it seems white in the morning and clear the rest of the time.
Avatar f tn Speaking with a Pharmacist may be the best help in knowing what meds would be best for u with the H.Pylori...it can be resistant to antibiotics...and can require a second round. Then, the antibiotics can kill off all teh good bacteria u need, so ask ur dr about taking a probiotic afterward.
Avatar n tn I'm just wondering what my odds of contracting salmonella are. I went out to the Wildlife Sanctuary today and fed the ducks, and two decided to fly up onto my shoulder. They even climbed on my feet. If there were any germs, they're now pretty much everywhere. I've touched my jacket, scarf, phone, wristlet, etc. Countless surfaces I could have passed any germs to.
