Avatar f tn Pseudomonas is typically a very hard bacteria to kill and becomes drug resistant when antibiotics are used very often. My daughter had pseudomonas several months ago and had to have her ear swabbed and cultured. The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13).
Avatar f tn I thought that some would find this interesting, not only for the piece on HepC but also for the developments with regard to other infectious diseases that are going on at the same time. I believe you will have to join this site to get the information. http://www.medscape.
Avatar f tn This is happening with many strains of bacteria in general as regards being resistant to antibiotics. There are a variety of causes of this such as the overuse of antibiotics by people who don't need them (some people ask for one if they are sick but if it is a viral infection it won't respond) people not completing the full regimen of treatment or sharing antibiotics and also the overuse of antibiotics in animals in farms to build bulk.
Avatar m tn Started on iv Cefa in a Pikk line 3 times daily for 6 wks. It was a non resistant Staph, still sensitive to Cefa. Off antibiotics for 2 weeks, inflammatory markers were normal. Slides taken during the revision when they replaced the metal implants on Jan 12 '10 showed less than one WBC per high power field. Three weeks later(Feb 5), had a draining tract out my incision with copious amounts of pus. Cultured to be a non resistant Staph again.
Avatar f tn As much as I want to help with regards to your question on antibiotics, it is important to note that antibiotics are prescribed based on the working diagnosis and the most likely organisms causing your condition. Also, it is important to take note of your age and other underlying medical conditions. Let us wait for the results of the culture as this will help guide the next step of treatment. A kidney, ureter and bladder CT scan will be able to help visualize structures involved.
Avatar f tn Could it be that I reacted positively to Amoxil-Clav and me being symptom free was due to its residual effect? Could it be that bacteria became resistant to Amoxicillin? I was taking 2000mg Amoxicilin a day. I also made quite a break when changing medication. I took Amox-Clav pills at 9 in the evening, and next dose of antibiotic at 2pm another day.
1691275 tn?1322327507 If you fail to complete the amoxcillin you risk developing an amoxcillan resistant strain. Generally medical practice is not to over-use antibiotics to prevent the development of resistant strains. Not completing a full course of antibiotics of any specific type is a good way to develop resistance to that type.
Avatar f tn I finished this course of antibiotics about a week and a half ago, and went in for my (hopefully) final set of swabs today. Results will be available early next week. Although I've been given pretty hardcore antibiotics, I'm not entirely sure that they have worked, and I think I might still be Chlamydia positive. Does anybody know of any cases where the Chlamydia has been drug resistant? And if so, how was the Chlamydia treated?
Avatar f tn Antibiotics are a good option to have, but they also destroy the beneficial bacteria in ones body, plus, overuse of those drugs leads to diseases becoming resistant to them (not to mention that they suppress the immune system on top of it - which is something that puzzled me... why is it that they refuse to make drugs which work with the body to eradicate the infection?).
Avatar m tn Bacteria that have been made resistant to nearly all antibiotics by an alarming new gene have sickened people in three states and are popping up all over the world, health officials reported Monday. The U.S. cases and two others in Canada all involve people who had recently received medical care in India, where the problem is widespread.
Avatar m tn I am worried that because I get on and off it, te bacteria is becoming resistant. Should I stop the antibiotics. I have read that it can lead to infertility and other issues. I am already afraid that it has caused damage. I am also worried it has spread to my semen and my wife and I want more children. To answer your earlier question, we are not using counseling but we are doing well and are working things out on our own for now.
Avatar f tn I've had a UTI that is a resistant little bugger. Got a culture..took Ceftin for 7 days. Must not have gone away, and now am on Macrobid for 7 days. 2 pills left and I still have the infection. Doctor said I would likely need IV Antibiotics and wants me to come in on Friday to do another culture before they do that. Here's my question..they didn't give me a lot of information on that. Has anyone else had IV antibiotics? Do you have to be hospitalized to get them?
Avatar n tn Four days ago I finished antibiotics for cervisitis, vaginosis, and a fungal infection, no I am having a burning, itchy, brown clumpy discharge. My question is, Why are the symptoms occuring after and what could this be?
Avatar n tn what I wanted to know is ...... both of these are resistant to antibiotics......are they both resistant to penecillins and if so is there any point in ever giving her penecillin antibiotics for any infection over the years or should we use a different family of antibiotics? In other words ....could she be inherently/genetically (probably wrong words) resistant to penecillin????? Poor mite also has had chicken pox, hepatitis A, chest infection for at least 5 weeks but now gone thank god.
Avatar f tn Usually seen in young obese women, certain drugs can also be responsible like ketoprofen, oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, antibiotics, even levonorgestrol implants. You need to be examined for diseases like anemia and hypertension. Pregnancy is also a risk factor. Consult a neurologist for a complete examination, optic nerve function also needs to be checked. Try to control your weight if that’s a concern and your medication may need to be reviewed.
Avatar n tn t really get tested right now but do have access to antibiotics. Intend to get tested for everything in a few weeks when I return home. In the meantime, I'm fairly certain I have chalmydia. That is redness and swelling around the urethral meatus (I'm a man) itchy and burning urethra and painful urination (all of which are mild except for the redness.) There is a significant amount of discharge and it seems white in the morning and clear the rest of the time.
Avatar f tn Speaking with a Pharmacist may be the best help in knowing what meds would be best for u with the H.Pylori...it can be resistant to antibiotics...and can require a second round. Then, the antibiotics can kill off all teh good bacteria u need, so ask ur dr about taking a probiotic afterward.
Avatar f tn what diseases actually require antibiotics, why full daily doses must be respected, absence of significant alterations of immunity associated with antibiotic therapy, danger of keeping part of a course for future uncontrolled use, and need of a prescription for getting antibiotics from the pharmacist could be some of the issues to be discussed with the patients.
Avatar m tn About 2 months later, another doc put me on antibiotics for several weeks. It was at this time that my small case of thrush became a full blown monster. Since then, I have been on ketoconazole 3x, I am currently finishing my 3rd cycle that has lasted nearly 1 month. I have gone through 2x 10day nystatin suspension every 4-6 hours (while on ketoconazole). I started taking acidophillus pills, garlic pills, apple cider vinegar pills, rinsing with organic apple cider vinegar.
