we recommend waiting a full week after treating chlamydia and gonorrhea before resuming sexual contact. there is a risk of transmitting something before then.
why don't we recommend prophylactic antibiotics? because the rates of resistance with some std's are very high and we don't want to add to that problem as well as the side effects of antibiotics often cause more troubles than they are worth to be taken needlessly.
With the recent CDC announcement about gonorrhea and it's resistance to certain antibiotics, i was wondering if one of the dr's could comment on the 'current' efficacy of the 2 gram single dose of azithromycin? Is this still an effective regiment for gonorrhea and / or chlamydia, NGU, etc.? Are there particular cases or reasons for the patients where this treatment has started to fail? Thank you.

When I started prophylactic treatment with acyclovir, I saw a reduced occurrence for a few months, then they came back to about 4-5 outbreaks/year. I recently switched prophylactic medication from acyclovir to famciclovir, and had a 18-month period free from outbreak. Come yesterday, I had another terrible outbreak (worse than usual)... will these become more commonplace now? Is this a sign of HSV-resistance to the drug? Are there any other courses of action I can consider?
Hi, I had a gum abcess that needed 3 courses of antibiotics. Finally the lower right molar was extracted as this was the origin of the infection. s why I like to have a definite diagnosis before I just take antibiotics for something, since then the most appropriate antibiotics can be taken, and a second test can be taken later to ensure that the treatment was successful.
