Avatar f tn yes, the navigation on this site is a bit obscure sometimes, and it changes every so often. In the right hand column on your screen, the first thing is an advertisement about 2x2" or so. The next thing below that is a tiny bar that says 'search this community', so if you type 'antibiotics' in, it will pull up only posts in this Lyme site/page that mention antibiotics, instead of from the whole of MedHelp.
Avatar f tn Dr. Smitha, I had a severe kidney infection with a blocking kidney stone. Sepsis set in and I nearly died as my bp plummeted quickly. I had to be resuscitated via drugs (norepinephrine, I believe & was in ICU for 3 days). Though my urine was cherry koolaide red, my electrolytes were off, I was in severe pain from the UTI, and I went into septic shock, NO CULTURE GREW. I have researched reasons for false negatives re urine cultures and found there can be several reasons for this.

Avatar f tn I'm on Norpace XR (anti-arrythmic) for Afib and I'm not supposed to take any of the antibiotics ending in "mycin" or Biaxin. Another post on this board said they landed in ICU after doing just that. It can cause a fatal heart rhythm. Another recent post suggested that one should double check with the doctor and/or pharmacist because there is some data that says some antibiotics are more likely to cause trouble than others.

Avatar f tn In studying the insulin resistance of 29 people with Hepatitis C, Australian researchers have confirmed that they have high insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes. However, almost all insulin resistance was in muscle, with little or none in the liver, a very surprising finding given that Hepatitis C is a liver disease. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. The two most important organs that respond to insulin are the liver and muscle.

640719 tn?1277140030 I'm getting a bit scared lately... I have been battling a recent UTI. I used to get them a lot when I was younger but haven't had one in about 2- 3 years. Anyway, took levaquin 500mg for about a week and felt much better then 4 days later it hit again. Did the AZO testing which tested positive for nitrate so went back on Levaquin and after two days of taking it I wasn't getting much relief so I went to my doctor.
362203 tn?1248810310 Hi, my best friend suffered from a really bad kidney infection that landed her in the hospital this past Thanksgiving. She was in ICU for 3 days with severe vomiting and high fever (103.0). She now keeps getting kidney infections over and over. Know though she recognizes the signs before it gets too bad. What should she be asking the doctor? I want to help her be more proactive in her treatment. Her doctor said that she just needs to rest and drink fluids and take meds for pain.
Avatar m tn pylorri infection but after having the antibiotics he gave me, it still has no changes(burping often). At the same time, I started urinating often after having the gastritis. 1691275 tn?1322327507 There are no contraindications whatsoever to taking two antibiotics and a strong arguement to continue with the first antibiotic as per doctor's orders and simultaneously take the second. There are slight variants in the way both antibiotics attack replication of bacteria. If you fail to complete the amoxcillin you risk developing an amoxcillan resistant strain. Generally medical practice is not to over-use antibiotics to prevent the development of resistant strains.
