163305 tn?1333668571 —Cóilín Nunan, Alliance to Save Our Antibiotics News outlets reported Monday that UK government scientists have found a gene, known as mcr-1, that gives bacteria resistance to colistin, often used by doctors when other antibiotics fail. Such resistance was first discovered last month in China, and in the past few weeks, the resistance gene has also been found in Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and in several Asian and African countries.
672662 tn?1542487820 000 and I needed to take antibiotics. So I had drink antibiotics for 6 months with 10 days break per month cause I needed to make urine test. I change my Doc and my new urologist was very upset when he sow that I have drink so many different antibiotics for a long time and he decided to take urine with catheter from my bladder. I didn't have E. coli in there. It was very strange though when I took my urine in disinfected cup from pharmacy I had this bacteria.
Avatar f tn I am on another course of oral antibiotics but nothing seems to be changing, and if it is the same E Coli it would need IV antibiotics again. However, all urine samples show no growth/or are clear with the exception of one that showed nitrates-yet the next day no nitrates showed and it was chalked up to being a false positive. I just don't know what to think. Could this be interstitial cystitis? What should I do? I can even see a urologist until next month.

Avatar f tn Quinolones like ciprofloxacin are one of the good drugs for the E. Coli but nowadays increasing incidence of resistance has been shown with the use of quinolones and in fact one of the older antibiotics like septran has been found to be quite useful for these bacteria. I’ll suggest to undergo tests ultrasound or intravenous urography to look for the cause of recurrent UTI. You might need a course of prophylactic antibiotics for prolonged periods for 6 months- 1 yr.

1168718 tn?1464983535 I can't figure this out. How careful do we have to be ??? I have yet another E-COLI resistant bacteria , and don't know where to even go from here ? I am doing everything possible, but obviously it is not enough .....sounds like this one is another IV drug application, I don't know what my GP will say, I just got the results, so he may call tonight or tomorrow. Avatar m tn Hi I am a gay guy. I had unprotected anal sex with a guy as the penetrative partner and a few days later had dysuria and went to get a urine culture done - it showed E Coli. I took some antibiotics and I am fine. I was told it's normal to have E Coli in your gut? Does the guy whom I had sex with need to be treated? Please help.
Avatar f tn My problem began three years ago when i had my first urine infection with e coli,,i had it for 4-5 months..i have been treated with various antibiotics and the e coli was gone. But from then and up until now i have this constant noninfectious urethritis.I have made all the possible tests and all are negative....what is wrong with me? I get better only when i drink a lots of water and lemonades. When my bladder is filled the urehtral burning goes away but if it isnt it is horrible.
Avatar f tn This past spring when I went to the doctor with cloudy, four-smelling urine--the doctor told me i had an e-coli infection and gave me a 5-day regemin of antibiotics--get to the doctor quick if you haven't already done so. e-coli can do some real damage to your organs if you're not careful. you probably transferred a little fecal matter to your front parts......e-coli comes from poop! good luck!
Avatar f tn About 3 months ago I started having pain, burning, etc.... I went to the doctor and found out I have an E. coli infection in my vagina. I know that it is much easier to get vaginal infections when you have a IUD. Well, I have taken two rounds of antibiotics as well as vaginal suppositories for the problem, and the problem persists. I am miserable and scared. I do not understand why the problem will not go away? I am probably having the device removed.

Avatar n tn A few years late the second time of urine culture does not show E-Coli but Enterococcus 1,000 – 10,000 cfu/ml and the same antibiotics Ampicillin changes to Sensitive <= 2. Why does two urine culture show different bacteria? Is it due to only one bacteria is detectable while others do not exist in a given urine culture test or it is due to the lab checks only ONE specific bacteria? Thank you for your answer.
Avatar m tn I am so sorry for your loss. Actually, you can get septic with E. coli. She may have had the E.coli that was in the urinary tract infection get into the blood stream or she could have had a problem with her bowel such as a tear and the E. coli (which is normal in the intestines) get into the blood stream. They would then give antibiotics and try to get rid of the E. coli in the blood. E. coli isn't always food borne. So, it depends on the situation.
Avatar f tn You may be having a side effect of the antibiotics. I would see/call up the doctor that gave you the antibiotics or is following up with you and tell them your having seizures after taking the drugs they gave you. Seizures that you never had before need to be checked out now.You may not see "seizures" on an MRI but if it was a MRI of the brain you would see a tumor or other tissue damage etc. I am not certain knowledge of whether the hepatitis and/or E.
Avatar m tn In that case your chances of catching anything are slim, furthermore taking antiobiotics for absolutely no reason can increase your resistance to antibiotics. So when/if you REALLY need to take them one day they might not work.
Avatar f tn Im 5 foot tall weigh 115 and ride just about any motorcycle you put me on..But here dec. 4th I ended up with e-coli. I was layed up 4 9 days before I called an ambulance, stayed in the hospital for 5 more, came hoem to be on antibiotics for 21 more. Thats 35 days total I had this toxin posining in my system. But that was 6 months ago & I went from riding motorcycles to not being able to hardly bath myself. Im having serizes were I go blind..Im week ALL the time.
Avatar m tn What diagnosis did they give you and what have you been prescribed? Urethritis comes to mind with your symptoms. Do you have any discharge? This usually, though, has pain during urination and you don't describe that. It's bacterial and it would get better with antibiotics. So, perhaps this was ruled out. But E coli can cause it and if you haven't had this ruled out, talk to your doctor about it. https://www.webmd.
Avatar f tn When I was a child i was in hospital 4 a month with complete kidney failure due 2 e coli , this resulted in a full recovery ! In the past ive had the same uti symptoms & have been able to rid of them by drinking water, cranberry pills, and frequent peeing. After a few wks of trying 2 rid naturally of symptoms i relised i needed antibiotics ob put me on microbid & did culture which came back contaminated also pyridium for pain did this for 5 days & still the same .
Avatar m tn What type of specimen did you give them? Coliform bacteria are normal intestinal flora. Examples are E. coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter. If you get E.coli in say a urine sample in sufficient numbers and you have burning on urination you would have a urinary tract infection. It is NOT an STD. E.coli and other coliforms can be spread easily after using the toilet or not washing your hands and touching something or a body part. It is totally common and nothing to worry about.
Avatar m tn It was painful, but after a day of antibiotics I was back on my feet. After that I would have a bout every month or so but knew I could rely on the antibiotics to knock it out. I was positive for e.coli after a prostatic massage, and I had a rectal ultrasound, which turned up no abnormalities. Last October my doc put me on a 8-week course of Cipro, but even during those 8 weeks, I felt like I was having mild flare ups.
Avatar f tn Have a look as well at D Mannose if your sister has had or has E coli to as some people have success with this for treating E coli but dont ignore this infection and keep getting tests done and ask for a longer test to be done. Look up sediment cultures and broth cultures.
