Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics reactions

antibiotics

Avatar n tn In the past I have had mild allergic reactions to antibiotics which mostly included breaking out in hives all over my body. I am just a little worried.....is it too late for the reaction to occur? Would it have occurred already since it has almost been 24 hours? Also, if I was to have any other side effects, when would they show up? I am just wondering because I am not familiar with antibiotics at all and I am a little concerned.
317787 tn?1473358451 Some antibiotics can cause allergic reactions while others can cause direct damage to their liver, which can be quite severe in patients with chronic liver disease. For patients with a pre-existing liver disorder, the detoxification function of the liver is already compromised and substances that would normally be metabolized could actually accumulate in the liver or in the bloodstream.
Avatar m tn The bruixe question was meant like "are there any type of reactions to surgery or antibiotics of this type"?
Avatar f tn My "antibiotics" are "natural" and "yes" I herxed. I have taken the natural stuff on three separate occasions and each time I ended up herxing to some degree. The first two times were miserable and guesswork dosages by myself, while this current protocol I'm on is more controlled. Each herxing period involved a lot of heart-related symptoms for me. This last go-around generated a sharp increase in my pulse skips/PVC's.
1373769 tn?1278603610 For some unknown reason, I find my thighs display the grandest reactions to Copaxone injections. But it doesn't happen every time I inject there. It goes better if I warm the area to be injected for a few minutes beforehand and ice it afterwards. I don't have to do that at all when I use other sites. I also make a special effort to completely relax my leg when I'm injecting the thigh or hip.
Avatar m tn mrbreezy wrote in on June 17th about a rash involving his genitals after using terciseptic. He also mentioned that he is allergic to penicillin and some other antibiotics. The symptoms he describes and the difficulty he was having finding a cure are very similar to the fixed drug reactions I have suffered for years from penicillin and sulfa drugs. An intense rash on my genitals and penis.
Avatar f tn I have a question about antibiotics. Since 2001, I have what I thought was an allergy to Cipro. Took it for an upper respitory infection for 3 days and had terrible problems. The Dr then gave me Levaquin, took for 7 days, with the same side effects. Just this past winter, I had a UTI that wouldn't go away and was treated with Biaxin and another abx (I can't remember which one, I have to look...maybe Ceftin) and had a bad reaction to both of them.
Avatar f tn Tried another and still having reactions so they had me stop all antibiotics. The original area is no longer swollen, red or tender. If the drugs didn't kill it can it come back in a different area or just in the same spot.
Avatar f tn "Overwhelmed" is a perfectly reasonable way to feel. One effect of Lyme disease is how it messes with the whole hormonal/endocrine system, which manages the emotions. Then when the doctor appointment aspect piles on ... well, a lot of us would react the same way you have. You're not alone that way. You say: "I received a second opinion and was diagnosed with chronic lyme by two doctors now, an LLMD and a LLND.
Avatar m tn My LLMD also pulses and uses a combination of antibiotics. I've been happy with the approach, but as JackieCalifornia notes not all doctors pulse. I think it worked well for me because I tend to have (and especially at the beginning had) strong Herx reactions, so the pulsing broke up the severe aftermath of the antibiotics. Personally (and I'm not medically trained) I think it is more important to be on combination treatment than it is to take the antibiotics daily vs. pulsing.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, adverse cutaneous reactions to drugs are common encountered now a days esp. if the person has an allergic past history. It is quite evident that you are allergic to penicillins. Such allergy is seen in as high as 10% of patient ranging from mild rash to severe reactions and depends on the body's magnitude of sensitization to such drugs. Patients who are allergic to penicillins should avoid all penicillins.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have bad reactions to alcohol? I finally got to see an LLMD and he did a few blood test including Cd57 and mine was 24! He says he thinks I have Lyme and he's going to go ahead and start me on treatment. But I want to get the igenex test done too, he said it was optional because he was going to treat me anyways.
Avatar f tn The antibiotics seemed to haven taken care of the cellulitis. Just dealing with the allergic reactions from the bactrim. That is much better too, and doctor says make take up to 6 months to totally go away - small fiber neuropathy.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I have SVT and going to see a university of Penn doctor on Wednesday about an ablation. I also have skipped beats, pauses, all the annoying stuff that freaks me out sometimes. Heart issues run on both sides of my family, my dad has afib. I'm 43 and have had tachycardia since my late 20s. Here's my problem. I am fighting a pretty severe infection, first it was upper respiratory and was given amoxicillian. 6 days later, I am running fevers and having bad head aches.
Avatar f tn Is it possible that the antibiotics I'm taking is the cause behind my itchy vaginal opening? Did anyone else go through this?
Avatar n tn Then this past Christmas I went to visit my family for the holiday and my mom said I looked different but healthy asked If I was taking my birth control I told her yes but had taken antibiotics (turns out the cancel out birth control and I didn't know) got home and realized I was 2wks late I didn't tell my parents for a week I called my mom and asked if I needed a referral for an ob she got so pissed and hung up on my...
Avatar f tn Please keep us updated on your progress because it has been my understanding for many years that any and all antibiotics are not good for healthy guys. And should only be taken if your life is in jeopardy. I believe someone had posted a while back that since they were taking antibiotics ( can't remember why ) They planned on taking probiotics immediately after the round of antibiotics were taken - in order to replenish the gut with good flora/ bacteria.
Avatar n tn Ive got this hives for maybe eating a milk fish or taking up antibiotics for my sinus and cough.. ive been taking up medicine for almost 3 weeks before for my throat and then this wheals started to appeared on my skin.. i feel stress every time i see my skin like this. sometimes i cry.
Avatar m tn I read online that probiotics can help with those symptoms, so I took some. I had reactions to taking pills, so then I drank kefir and had similar reactions. Finally, I tried recently taking less amounts of kefir (tablespoon a day).
Avatar f tn I have been off the iv for several weeks now, but continue to get fevers, aches and chills. Has anyone else had this treatment and similiar reactions? Do I need to treat again or differently?
Avatar f tn The spectrum of these reactions can vary widely; reactions may present as typical allergic symptoms (eg, itching, urticaria, rash, edema) after a single dose, or may manifest as severe idiosyncratic dermatologic reaction, pulmonary (eg, pneumonitis), renal (eg, nephritis), hepatic (eg, hepatic failure or necrosis), and/or hematologic (eg, anemia, cytopenias) events, usually after multiple doses.
