Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics pregnancy labour

antibiotics

Avatar f tn s why at every ob visit they test your urine for one. Antibiotics are very low risk during pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I was on them 6 times.
Avatar f tn Alot of antibiotics will cause yeast infections. I've never heard of them causing miscarriage tho.
1021301 tn?1275310290 Hi, I am 14wks pregnant and have been experiencing a fishy odor after sex. From what I read on internet, I'm sure it's Baterial Vaginosis. I have mentioned this to my doctor and he reckons unless I have itching, irritation etc. it's not that serious and don't need to be treated for it. He also says that my mucous plug will keep it away from baby so I've nothing to worry about. But I also read it can cause preterm labour and complications.
8075190 tn?1401035475 I'm also GBS + and all that really means is that I will be given IV antibiotics during Labour tomatoes sure my baby doesn't become infected. Roughly half of all women have GBS and don't know because it doesn't cause any problems for us. It isn't picked up until pregnancy because there is never a reason to test for it until then. Please have the antibiotics as there is a chance your baby could contact GBS in the birth canal and in some rare cases babies have died as a result.
Avatar f tn I also tested positive with this pregnancy. Don't worry, the fact you know is the main thing. I have a few friends who have had it. It's when it is not detected that's a problem.
Avatar f tn I'm so concerned. Just reading what can happen to my baby is making me feel terrible :( I know its not that big of a deal as long as I'm given antibiotics during labour, but I can't help but feel a little uneasy about it. Anyone else have it/had it in a previous pregnancy? I need some positive stories!
Avatar f tn I have it also. It is completely harmless to us, it is only during labour and birth it is a problem as baby doesn't have a strong enough immune system to cope with it. It definitely does NOT magically disappear after pregnancy, and there aren't any antibiotics that can be given so that you are clear of it. As it doesn't cause any problems for mum then they don't bother treating it. It also CAN NOT be passed on to your partner through sex.
Avatar f tn Yes it can cause premature labour etc - go get antibiotics (if its really really bad they'll hospitalise you on iv meds) I went into labour @22weeks on my first bby because uti's.
299356 tn?1218116164 20pm. Labour started at 3 pm. I haven't been tested this time. And both times my water wasn't broken until I started pushing. Maybe that makes the difference.
Avatar f tn Hi I have been told I have the strep b infection and when I go into labour I will have to be put on a drip for antibiotics or if I have my baby to quick they will have to give them to baby..I'm panicking a little about it all was just wondering if anyone has had the same ?
Avatar f tn 1st my waters went at 12 and then had I had my daughter 23 weeks and she obviously had an infection aswell she stayed inside me for 12 weeks witch is very rare.
Avatar n tn My daughter was finally born at 32weeks and thanks to those steroid injections she was fine. With my second pregnancy I went into labour at 30 weeks. Again I was given steroid injections for my sons lungs and the labour was stopped. Unfortunately I was a carried of Group B Strep which we didn't realize at the time of my sons birth. He caught it and developed into septcaemia. He died aged 14 hours old. For the last week in this pregnancy I have had contractions.
Avatar f tn Every women has the bacteria it grows from but some women just over produce and thats why you are GBS positive. You just have an IV with antibiotics during labour, if your labour is too quick they give the antibiotics to your baby after born for a few days. I wasnt positive with my second and im now 27+2 with my 3rd.
427258 tn?1266445242 If your water breaks you are supposed to get to the hospital right away and get the antibiotics asap. You are also supposed to be given the antibiotics a few hours prior to delivery as well.. I can't remember the exact amount of hours.. I know I'll end up going to the hospital early because I will be worried about not getting the antibiotics on time so I'm not too concerned with the time... Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Hi I received a letter from my hospital saying that I'm carring a bacteria called Group B Streptococcus (GBS) THEY said they would give me antibiotics when I'm in labour it scares me though has anyone else experience this before is it bad ? Will my baby girl get this bacteria aswell? Thanks (34 weeks pregnant).
389909 tn?1225996852 i had group b strep and received antibiotics in labour and had a healthy 8ib 4oz beautiful baby girl, hope this helps!
11595727 tn?1428875837 I am 2cm dialated and 50% effaced with baby head engaging. Plus losing mucous plug. I test positive for a uti & yeast infection!!! arrrrgh midwife prescribed antibiotics for both. Can this affect delivery choice or baby if I was to go in labour soon?
234013 tn?1231110193 I did not have this during my first pregnancy. Dr is not concerned. Just will need antibiotics during delivery. Wondering if anyone else has tested postive for this???
1499017 tn?1297462429 My story is very similar to yours - I had 2 m/c in 2008, one in July and another one in October. I found out I was pg again on Valentine's day 2009 and like you, I also tested positive for Strep B. My midwife told me that there was nothing to worry about, they'd give me antibiotics as soon as I'm in labour. When I went into labour, they gave me intravenous antibiotics every four hours until the baby was born and she is now 16 months old.
Avatar f tn At first i thought it was just another pregnancy symptom, however when i went to the day assesment unit at hospital they found SG? What ever that is and LEU? Which i also have no idea about in my urine. They said its probably a urine infection so they have given me an antibitoic called Cefalexin.
Avatar f tn / i did the same thing, theres a slim chance it can be passed to baby with antibiotics during labour..but i think about it everyday if something was to happen:/ i would like to know too!
Avatar f tn They will give antibiotics through iv when you go in labour.
Avatar f tn Hi thanks iv read some horriying stories on google. What happens if there isnt enough time for the antibiotics? Is c section safer.
Avatar n tn Hiya I had it with my 3rd pregnancy, I had to be induced and have IV antibiotics before the baby was born. If you have the baby before you get the antibiotics the baby will have to have the IV when born and stay in hospital for a couple of extra days. My son was absolutely fine.
Avatar n tn I tested positive during my 1st pregnancy, too. It's very common. IV antibiotics during labour are a precaution for your little one. Babies can get very sick in the first little while with complications from the Strep, so it's good to go for the antibiotics. The IV is no hassle at all. It all kind of just happens! Hope you have great doctors and midwives to help you through. They do an amazing job!
