antibiotics

Avatar f tn A lot of antibiotics cause birth control to be ineffective.
Avatar f tn Also they ask if you are on birth control because antibiotics decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and therefore a second method of birth control is necessary while taking them.
Avatar f tn Ok.. Thanks. I did went ahead and started my next pack of bcp.

Avatar m tn The next day on Friday which was the start of new pack which are active pills I was placed on antibiotics for falling and getting an infection on my knee. I asked the doctor if I should still take both at the same time and he said yes just use a back up method. My question is can I be pregnant because I had unprotected sex on Thursday and the next day on Friday I took both antibiotics and active pill???
Avatar n tn My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex mid -month when I would have normally been ovulating but a couple days later I started taking antibiotics. The nurse told me it would void my birth control so we needed to use another method in the mean time. Is it possible that I could still get pregnant from when we had sex before I started the antibiotics now that the pill isn't really that effective for me?
1964476 tn?1325494950 I finished the last antibiotic pill on wednesday night (the 4th of Jan). i have been taking my birth control pill at the exact time every day, and then i had sex with my boyfriend last night (monday the 9th of Jan), and we used a condom (PROPERLY) and he pulled out about 3 mins before he ejaculated. what are the chances of falling pregnant?
293909 tn?1205446621 Some people get pregnant while they are STILL on birth control. Because of missing a pill, taking antibiotics, etc. So yes you can get pregnant right away after birth control. Everybody is different. I've been off of them since Sept got back on them in Jan to regulate myself, got back off of them again and I'm still not preg.
Avatar m tn how long after starting the birth control pill will I be able to have sex without the risk of getting pregnant?
Avatar f tn t a form of birth control. I continued to take my birth control for the remainder of the pack. I take junel, only 3 weeks of active pills then a week where you don't take any pills. I don't normally have a period every month as I tend to just start the next pack immediately after I finish one. This is the first time I have tried to have a period for the month.
Avatar f tn So me and my fiancé has unprotected sex 2-3days ago, I am on birth Control. Well I went to the doctors for get Antibiotics called Macrobid for my UTI. I am to get pregnant? Be that the Antibiotics make the pill unefftive the doctor said it won’t but I don’t know ...I’m scared I am not ready for a baby. Will I be fine?
Avatar n tn Hi, I had sex about 2 days after my menstrual cycle ended and my condom broke without my knowledge. I am currently on birth control pills and took plan B the day after the incident. Two days after I became very ill and took azythromyacin. I know that antibiotics interfere with birth control but given the timing, do you think my chances of pregnancy are low?
Avatar f tn Certain antibiotics can make birth control ineffective or less effective. You should definitely talk to your doctor about that!
2164830 tn?1337035596 The doctors suggest 3 months. Birth control is honestly only 93% effective so I would suggest using condoms as part of the birth control method too if you do not honestly want a baby. Taking certain medicines like antibiotics will reduce the effextiveness of the pill. Better be safe than sorry!
Avatar f tn I continued to take the birth control while i took the antibiotics, which i know antibiotics lowers the effectiveness of the BC but will a few days after you stop taking the antibiotics the birth control be effective? or how long?
Avatar f tn Im not 100 percent sure about the injectitons but I would assume that it can effect your birth control like it does all of the others. Antibiotics have a half life that can temporarily effect birth control, but not permanetly. Ask your doctor for more advise, he/she will be able to tell you immediately.
Avatar f tn antibiotics can reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. You should use a back up method of protection such as condoms while you are taking the antibiotics. Other than that there aren't any interactions between the two.
Avatar f tn I heard that antibiotics interfere with birth control pills, but I’m on the birth control that gets implanted under my skin – will antibiotics interfere with that too? A: This is one of the biggest medical myths of all time; one that gets propagated in doctors’ offices, health clinics, hospitals, blogs, magazines, and student health centers every day. ...
Avatar f tn It is recommended that someone starting on the "birth control pill" waits 2 full menstrual cycles before relying solely on it for birth control. Condoms are encouraged until completion of the second cycle. And remember that the "pill" isn't 100% effective, only 98% and doesn't provide any protection against STD's. Also when taking any antibiotics with the pill, it lowers the effectiveness and so does having diarrhea or vomiting as it is not absorbed in the system.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend had been on birth control for about two years. She always had her period on a saturday. Always. She had to stop taking the pills for a month (her prescription was messed up), but once she got her pills back, she didn't wait for her period to start before starting the pills. So my question is, would it be normal for her period to start on a saturday still? Because the period after she started the pills again started on a saturday and lasted for nine days.
9915629 tn?1406652585 I'm thinking about long term birth control after my baby is born. What are the pros and cons of the I'D and the implant? (For those of you that have had them) I was reading about them, and I really don't like the risk/possible side affects. But I don't remember the pill and the shot made me go crazy. Any suggestions or advice?
Avatar f tn hey everyone, i have a question i just switched from the depo shot to the pill. i received the shot the day after i had my daughter april 1 2013, and three months later i switched to the pill. i took the pill on a tuesday three or four days before i had too. so that i wouldnt have a break in birth control. im on the placebo part of the pack i actually have four days left and haven't received my period. meaning i have four days til i take a new pack. im a tuesday start, if that makes sense.
551454 tn?1276782284 I was on birth control for years...... even took antibiotics on them and used no other form of protection and DID NOT get preggo while on it!
Avatar m tn Antibiotics have no effect on condoms, and for even greater protection using a condom correctly during all intercourse while also on birth control pills (which may be less effective while on antibiotics) would offer extremely effective birth control...But still nothing short of complete abstinence is 100% Also, you might look into getting a prescription for topical antibiotic treatment instead of the oral..but the oral antibiotics are probably more effective.
