Avatar m tn I'm sick for 8 MONTHS. 26 years old male. My ESR is 45. I'm HIV negative. Pain in lymph nodes (neck, ear, jaw, armpit, chest). My head feels like I have very bad case of flu. Black under my eyes. I was diagnosed with "viral infection". I was given many antibiotics and last time I was given broad spectrum antibiotics. Crixan 500mg, Levofloxacin 500mg. Since then pain in lymph nodes little bit decreased. My head feels still the same, almost like drunk.
Avatar m tn Patients treated with appropriate antibiotics in the early stages of Lyme disease usually recover rapidly and completely. Antibiotics commonly used for oral treatment include doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime axetil. Patients with certain neurological or cardiac forms of illness may require intravenous treatment with drugs such as ceftriaxone or penicillin. In a small percentage of cases, these symptoms can last for more than 6 months.

242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar m tn It could also be due to infection such as pneumonia or bronchitis. Chronic sore throats can be allergic, viral or bacterial in origin. Many viral conditions like EBV (glandular fever) behave in this way with recurrent respiratory infections. Many parasitic infestations and worms increase the eosinophil counts in the blood and thus cause an increased risk of upper respiratory infections.
Avatar n tn It was diagnosed as viral and she was put on antibiotics (we visited an emergency vet because it was Sunday). She tested neg. for feline leuk. The same day as the vet visit, she became disoriented and started bumping into things and walking right off the edge of the bed! Her pupils were (are) fully dialated, constantly. She apparently became blind. Along with this sudden blindness, she began having seizures. Three in twenty-four hours.

Avatar n tn Hi. I have a 16 year old son who was diagnosed with Lymes the end of January 09. I'm not really sure of levels, but his antibodies were 2.32 and he had 5 bars on the western block show a positve reaction. The doctor said he must have been bitten a while ago and was left untreated. (Untreated because we had no idea he was even bit and original symptoms were not that bad.) He was put on 100mg of Doxy for 30 days. Four weeks later he was put on 200mg of Doxy.
Avatar m tn What do you mean by underlying heart diseases ..could you give me few examples...
Avatar m tn Definitely look into generics, they are cheaper. Sometimes drug companies offer help as well. Search on sites such as freemedicine.com to see what companies are offering help. It is a shame that meds are so expensive, I am lucky to have help otherwise I would either not eat or take my meds. I took care of many patients who came into the hospital with exacerbations from their diseases. Many cases were because they could not afford the meds that would keep their diseases in check.
7678907 tn?1400809113 Just out of curiosity what did they give you antibiotics for? If its viral they won't help.
Avatar n tn Hence, the treatment mainly depends on the cause. Like treatment of viral hepatitis with anti viral, avoiding alcohol etc. Correction of thyroid disorder. You need to consult gastroenterologist for assessment of SGPT levels. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Other causes include allergic reactions, arthritis, cancer, metabolic diseases, and an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). Maybe you had a viral infection at that time which resulted in swollen lymph node. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps.
867787 tn?1318936230 What other demyelinating diseases are there besides MS? On my MRI it stated multiple sclerosis or other demyelinatinating disease , so what others are there??
Avatar n tn Hi there, Your symptoms aren't consistent with any of the diseases you mentioned, and I would not spend time worrying about them. Your chills and diarrhea the following day were probably caused by either your drinking the night before, or some gastrointestinal bug you picked up in Aruba. You wouldn't get symptoms that fast from kissing someone the night before. Your current symptoms are also not likely due to your encounter with this woman...
Avatar n tn My biggest fear that it is either HIV or some other type of undiaginosed viral infection. I have been dealing with a weird tickle in the back of my throat. And an occasional dry unproductive cough. It's now going on 4 months and I'm still testing negative for the usual suspects.(STD's) My question is in there some type of broad spectrum test to test for multiple viruses at once? I would have to assume it's Viral since I taken enough antibiotics to kill most anything else.
Avatar f tn I am assuming the metal plate may contain other people's dried blood from previous injections. Could I get HCV or even HBV from that exposure? I am worried sick.
Avatar f tn With treatment bacterial is cured in 1-2 weeks..viral will last longer. There are vaccines now .The type of anti biotic depends on the type of pneumonia she has , as she has only taken the meds for a few days I would continue as prescribed but if indeed she seems worse and her temperature climbs it may be aswell to have her checked out again ..

Avatar f tn Hi in 1992 Hep B all year. Told not a carrier in 1993. In 1997 salmonella (phage 156) and Glandular fever and hepatitis. Around this time (1997) two fingers on right hand swollen, left outer right knee swollen, (both duration 15 years). Avatar n tn antibiotics do not work on herpes or viral infections. Why they would tell him that they think it's viral, not do any viral swabs of the throat and send him home on antibiotics is beyond me. Did they even test for strep throat? blood tests for herpes aren't going to be very useful at this point. If he has a fever he should call his doctor and ask if they think he needs tested for influenza or anything else.
