We have a 11 year old pit bull who developed a lump under her jaw about 3 months ago. She was treated for an infected tooth With 2 rounds of meds and also a dental cleaning to make sure the tooth did not need to be pulled. We thought we were good. But it returned 2 weeks ago. This time the vet took a sample, which came back as just an infection, and he put her on a very strong antibiotic that he has very good results with and said she needs to stay on it for 3 weeks. She is on her second week.
but since them with exception of fever every 3 days she weaks up during the night vomiting and having stomch pain that last 24 and reocurring in a pattern of 3 days....I just took her to the doctor... I was informed that is a virus and I should treat only with antibiotics... I wonder if it is not necessary having blood test done...
Second, you made a mistake with the antibiotics. NEVER give an animal antibiotics left over from a previous condition. In fact, you should never have antibiotics left over, because all antibiotics are given as a course - and the course should always be given in full and as directed, even after the dog has recovered from whatever was ailing him.

I agree with michell221. Candida is a yeast that frequently overgrows in the bowels for various reasons. A common reason is antibiotic use which kills off the good balance maintaining digestive bacteria as she said.
Eliminating or at least greatly reducing your simple carbohydrates intake will help to stop the over growth as it reduces the "food" for the yeast. In addition to the foods michell221 mentioned, potatoes and rice and all processed grains can be a problem.
Do you guys have any improvement? I am having swelling in ankels too since antibiotics along with nausea which was never there. It's been 2 years now.

I have the worst taste in my mouth. First, it started off as a metallic/copperish taste. Now, it's progressing to a soapy taste. No matter how much I drink, brush my teeth, or rinse my mouth out with soap, I still have this awful taste. I went to the dentist today and he said everything was fine... no gingivitis, irritation, etc. Nothing.

He got a shot of antibiotics and I got sent home with clavamox. He ate a little that evening. Then after I gave him the dose yesterday he ate some boiled turkey and some nonfat Greek yogurt. About 2 months ago I adopted a 2 year old cardigan welsh corgi from the pound. She had an UPI when I got her so she was on antibiotics for two weeks. if it really was a virus there isn't much you can do, do not give him antibiotics of any sort. integrate with water and salt to compensate the diarrhea. He is currently on no prescribed drugs or anything of any kind. He was only on the antibiotics for 5 days. He is booked in for a post neutering check up with my vet on Monday but I was hoping for some advice in the meantime. Can anyone suggest a good kitten food to maybe settle his stomach?
