Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics in respiratory infection

antibiotics

Avatar n tn Hello there, First of all how do you know your kitty has an upper respiratory infection? If you suspect an upper respiratory infection, please take your fur baby to a vet. If this amoxicillin or ciproflaxin is human medication, do not give this to your cat as this is made for human consumption not for cats. Take your cat to a vet to be properly diagnosed and treated. Under no circumstances should you ever use human prescription meds on a cat.
Avatar f tn I have a kitten who is about 5 months old, give or take, he had a respiratory infection a little over a month ago and I took him to the vet and got him medication. Now he's started sneezing and coughing again. He finished up the medicine about 2+ weeks ago. We have 2 other cats, one is a week older and the other is a little over 6 months. Neither of them are showing signs. They all have their appetite which I was told could leave when they had an infection.
1840402 tn?1355432565 I took antibiotics awhile back for an upper respiratory infection, and baby is still doing well, highly active and everything. I know it's hard, but I do think the doctor wouldn't give you anything that was dangerous for the baby.
Avatar f tn Never had skin issues until after surgery. Still have post op respiratory infection after doing antibiotics still present as well.
Avatar f tn ) Thanks for the read through!
Avatar f tn Recently I came down with an upper respiratory infection and the doctor prescribed me a penicillin to clear it up. I told the doctor that I had a yeast infection the last time I took an antibiotic. I purchased a probiotic but didnt take it till after the 3rd day of medication and the damage was done already. I got a yeast infection and I have had one before due to antibiotics so I knew what it was.
Avatar m tn I had many acute sinus infections that were on top of the chronic infection that stayed permanently. Antibiotics only helped reduce the acute infection back down to it's chronic state. I was tested for allergies too and because I"m one of those odd people who don't show a bump with the control histamine, I showed very little on the rest of the allergens, so I was initially given a non-allergic Rhinitis problem. Interesting medical label wouldn't you say?
Avatar m tn I went to the doctor last wednesday and he diagnosed me with an upper respiratory infection caused by allergies. The main symptom I went there for was this brain fog, I have it bad and still have it bad to this day. The doctor said that would cause it, but i just want to know if it is true and will it be cured by the antibiodics he gave me please help.
Avatar m tn It probably is the chronic allergies that are causing a chronic inflammation and slight infection in your lungs. You never had a super long exposure to the cats before since you didn't live with them so the allergy response has changed. Many people can handle a short exposure to allergens but it is the chronic longterm exposure that causes problems.
Avatar m tn Firstly you should know that few cannot tolerate particular antibiotics, in such cases alternative antibiotics can help. Antibiotics are quiet important in cases of bacterial infection which will reduce the duration of illness. Apart from antibiotics, anti pyretic, taking nutritious diet including fruit juices will improve the immunity. Body has its own immunity and will be able to take care of infection.
Avatar m tn I was just curious if anyone else has experience with any kind of sinus/respiratory infection during treatment. Do antibiotics work as well as they normally do while on tx? I had this happen to me once, many years ago, and I remember I went to see the doc, he gave me a shot in the butt, and 24 hours later I felt like a new man. On the offchance this is NOT an infection, anyone ever heard of IFN causing nasty side effects like this?
Avatar f tn After completing the prescription, I still had a sinus infection and ended up in the ER with an upper respiratory tract infection and gastritis. I now have an equilibrium problem to go along with the upper respiratory infection and the gastritis. I don't know what to do st this point. Too afraid to take anything. Can someone give me some advice.
Avatar n tn I am fightiing an uri. I am on antibiotics and cough medicine. I had an appointment with my doctor today, but it has been moved to dec 20.. What can i do in the meantime?
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar n tn I get three or four bouts of colds/sinus infections each year which always progresses into laryngitis with croup-like symptoms. I have a very difficult time getting air past my inflamed voice box and experience inspiratory wheezing (or stridor?) with the dry barky cough, and sometimes a thick yellowish/greenish phlegm will be cleared from my throat. It's very scary feeling like my throat is closing up at times.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar f tn No. It´s not an allergic reaction. You have a BACTERIAL respiratory infection, complicated by an ear infection(also bacterial). Requires medical treatment with proper antibiotics.
503418 tn?1231098736 i am getting rather worried its been about 2 weeks i first noticed the first. last week i finished a course of antibiotics for an upper respitory tract infection , could that have anything to do with them? i dont drink dont smoke and have hashimotos underactive for 12yrs. pls pls offer yr advice since my appt is for the 8th of January.
Avatar f tn I suppose you have culture medium in your garage to determine if you in fact have such an infection and to determine the appropriate antibiotic. I just know that your physician has already cultured the organism and knows exactly what it is. Chronic lung infections often go hand in hand with the use of steroids to control asthma. You might consider an appointment with a specialist in chronic infections.
Avatar n tn Hi Sissy and welcome. First, human tuna should not be given to kitty due to the mercury in it...at least, not too much. Using it to get a pill down is one thing, but kitty needs cat food for the nutrients. My first thought is I wonder if your cat is eating out of a plastic bowl? This can cause feline acne. This could also be herpes. The info below is from an earlier thread that I copy and pasted. Hope it helps some.
Avatar f tn am currently waiting to see a specialist, it was in my lower left lung the infection started, after a double course of antibiotics & steroids it seems to have cleared up but just before the end of my antibiotics my right breast got sore & it travelled across my breast & now its to the side of my breast & towards my arm pit, its not sore to the touch & there are no lumps there but its sore from inside out, I often wake during night with the soreness & have to hold myself
Avatar m tn Many viral conditions like EBV (glandular fever) behave in this way with recurrent respiratory infections. Many parasitic infestations and worms increase the eosinophil counts in the blood and thus cause an increased risk of upper respiratory infections. Conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, asbestosis and silicosis along with pulmonary fibrosis should be ruled out. If there is no fever then chances of allergic reaction, acidity and reflux and high eosinophil count are more.
Avatar n tn My cat has had a sinus problem since earlier in the fall -- lots of sneezing, runny nose, etc. I took him to the vet who prescribed antibiotics. They were effective but about two weeks after completing the antibiotics, the sneezing started again. Since then we have gone throught two additional rounds of antibiotics, the latest was horrid pink stuff (Novolexin) that I could barely get down his throat!
1901977 tn?1333991726 Been feeling like something was coming on for days now, but woke up early this morning with a definitely upper respiratory infection-type thing, including a deep chest cough and a lot of congestion in my chest. I just started my 12th week so I'm not comfortable taking antibiotics or most of the normal over-the-counter meds I use to treat these normally. Any magic solutions from those of you who have been through this before?
Avatar n tn Hi, if your phlegm is green in colour it may be that you have an infection and sometimes with an infection there can be small amounts of blood and you should then see your doctor to perhaps get an antibiotic. If the phlegm is not green as long as it is not large amounts of blood then as jaja says it may be due to excessive coughing. Again i am not a doctor but i do work in the field of respiratory medicine. if you are concerned then speak to your doctor.
276730 tn?1327962946 Well I got it back again...feel like i have a steel pipe in my throat. Took antibiotics Jan 24 by last pill it went away completely. As of yesterday its back and what a doozy again. The hep doc said no need to go to ENT since its Riba and INF induced and PCP said same. So what do I do keep taking antibiotics every two weeks? Ya think this will eventually leave? I am somewhat panicked by it coz once again the pain is a 10.
