Wash hands when they come in.
Avatar n tn re talking of cutting the 4 smaller toe She has osteomyelitis and cellulitis in one foot. Antibiotics have been unsucessful and according to the docs she waited too long for an operation (they say it could have been a simple removal of bone without amputation, a while ago). Avatar f tn The danger is the infection will go into the bone and result in osteomyelitis, which may mean weeks on an intravenous line in a hospital. Oral antibiotics do not work well for toe infections. Soaking in salt water will enhance the chances of developing osteomyelitis. You should get an x-ray film of the toe and ideally the infection be cultured. Osteomyelitis is very nasty and can spread to the metatarsals and the leg, which could result in amputation of the toe, foot or leg.
Avatar f tn Treatment is usually intravenously administered vacomyacin, although the Journal of Infectious diseases January 2011 suggests oral Cipro as an alternative. If osteomyelitis of the bone in the toe progresses to the metatarsals it can mean foot amputation. You need an IMMEDIATE consult with a podiatrist.
Avatar m tn Hello , My father is 40 years old and went through a terrible accident in 2003 because of which his left leg was braked at several places including his hip section. 15 years later, in begining of 2018 , a bit of pus started coming out of his hip's section where the IM injection is made. Due to very less quantity he did not take it into concern. In march 2020, he went to doctor and found that it was elsewhere managed case of infective arthritis of left hip chronic osteomyelitis.
Avatar m tn Hello, So 3 days ago, I was on a boat and the metal cleat punctured in between my pinkie toe and my ring toe. At first i did no think much of it. There was minimal pain and bleeding. Its now been 3 days and the foot is swelling and there is some redness.
Avatar m tn I have only been on antibiotic for 3 days, and it is a 10 day course. In the evenings, especially when I am in bed, I wake up because there is so much pain in my foot, it feels like a deep stabbing pain that is sharp, and sometimes burning. Is this normal of a skin infection from an incision? Could it be a bone infection? Or nerve damage? How patient should I be with this doctor and doctor's office?
Avatar f tn And #8 indicated you have a chronic infection in your right hip. The medical term for that is Osteomyelitis. It is an infection of bone or bone marrow. By definition Osteomyelitis is inflammation of the bone and marrow, but since it is always caused by an infection, it indirectly implies an infection. It generally encompasses all of the bone including the bone marrow. When it is chronic it can lead to bone sclerosis and deformity.
Avatar f tn He is in ALOT of pain, nausea, very tired and overal in pain everywhere. He is on antibiotics - Amoxocillin, but i am concerned it is not enough. They told him they would change the gauzes but when he called to have it done - they gave him the runaround and then finally agreed to "do him a favor" by changing them out. Iam concerned - what should i look for if this gets worse? What can we do to ensure he is being treated appropriately?
Avatar m tn Hi, there seems to be a failure to eradicate infection of the bone in the acute stage results in persistence of the organism in the bone. It is characterized by continuing destruction of the bone by the infective process. Periosteal stripping results in parts of the bone becoming avascular and necrotic. These dead fragments are called sequestra.

Avatar n tn Has anyone ever had a reaction to antibiotics that turns into a chronic condition? My husband has been ill for the last three years and doctors can't figure out why. Symptoms come and go but always include excessive sweating, night sweats, sinus infections and overwhelming fatigue. He was recently given Bactrim and had a bad reaction to it. Now we're thinking that antibiotics used over the years may have caused these chronic symptoms. Are we crazy?
Avatar f tn The problem is that invariably, if untreated, you will develop an infection in the bones a condition called osteomyelitis. Because oral antibiotics do not travel well to the extremities, you may end up with several weeks of intraveous therapy, which may not work. The bacteria has to be cultured to determine the proper antibiotic. In a worse case scenario you may lose toes from amputation, a foot, or a leg.

In that case, the best treatment is incision and drainage followed by a round of general antibiotics which in turn is followed by specific antibiotics or antifungals after the reports of pus/ blood sample of the effected site specify whether it is bacterial or fungal infection.
Avatar f tn Hi! I'm a 28 year old female. I've been having problems with my right collarbone, arm and shoulder for over a year now. Last October, I noticed that my collarbone got enlarged at the place where it meets the sternum. The very place didn't hurt, but i felt pain in my arm, neck and shoulder. Avatar f tn Diabetes is an excellent guess, although those pinprick pains usually occure late in the process, and aere symptomatic of osteomyelitis, which can be life-threatening and result in toe amputation, foot amputation, or leg amputation. Often these start in the tip, of a smaller toe, so the fact this is a single toe is significant. If the infection migrates to the bloodstream you may have ther patient end up with endocarditis and a pig-valve procedure. All this for a little pin-***** on the toe!

Avatar n tn As long as the upper jaw gum closed up completely in about 1 week, the lower one was not healed at all so that doctor recommended to take antibiotics. The course of antibiotics did not help a lot and in March 2012 they diagnosed a low jaw bone osteomyelitis. The doctor continued the antibiotic therapy followed by lab tests. In the middle of April 2012 the histological Lab test result showed up the benign tumor.
