antibiotics

Avatar n tn I'm a 39 year old microbiology student who recently had a lab in which we tested our saliva. The tubes were incubated for 3 days and I did a gram stain on the growth, expecting to find lactobacillus or other resident bacteria. However, what I found was only yeast, probably Candida (but we're still testing to be sure) and a few cells. Nothing else. I haven't been taking antibiotics lately.

Avatar f tn most of the stuff you use will be a weak strain of something, or like one expeirment we did was, we swabed the lab table, someones face, the girls bathroom doorknob and put in in incabeter to see if something would grow. You would be fine, a preggo woman working in hospital or nursing home has a greater risk of getting something and they tell them to use universal precautions.
Avatar m tn IF I remember right (intro microbiology was a few years ago). Bacterial come in gram negative and then gram positive. So antibacterial drugs can be made to go for one or the other by specifically targeting that difference (there are also other differences they can target out). Some drugs however work against all kinds of bacteria. Some of the common bacterial infections are chlamydia, syphilis, gonorrhea, and then I think staphylococcal.
Avatar f tn Viral and bacterial infections are very different in nature with very different factors working between antibiotics and antivirals. Basic microbiology right there. Time to consider a different doctor. All I can suggest is being careful around it and try to angle if you can when using the restroom to avoid hitting it. Keep the area clean, and try wearing some loose (comfortably so), breathable underwear such as those made out of cotton and avoid thongs.

Avatar n tn my 7 yr old has what i believe to be a boyle on the upper portion of his left rear-end cheek; it started friday when he wore boxers and jeans that got wet in the yard. they wore a sore spot that broke the skin on both sides. i used polysporin to treat it (thats all i had) and the sore healed, but now it is about an inch (or so) in diameter with redness extending about 1/4 inch around the center spot, which is hard and painful to touch. i have no insurance and cannot afford unnecessary dr.
Avatar n tn Also when it reappears, you might want to get a culture test on your rash. Go ask for a fungi culture test as well as microbiology culture test to check in details what are you having. Yeast infection is often misdiagnosed with other problems (i.e STD). Considering that your wife cleared up her infection by using the same cream, i won't worry though. I still believe it's the persistent yeast infection.
