My dog Koke has severe hair loss, he was given a urine test and blood test, and he was given antibiotics. He still has hair loss and am scared to take him out on sunny days because of sun burn. Is it old age? He also has arthritis, but I give him doggy asprin. Thank you.
I was admitted to the hospital, and spent 5 days there recovering on a whole slew of antibiotics. I came home on antibiotics and NO HAIR LOSS. I mean, it was like turning off a switch. I went from fistfuls to absolutely nothing. This was just before Thanksgiving. I stayed this way until mid February. I lost NO hair, after losing so much day after day after day. Right around Valentines Day, it came back with a vengeance.
m 18 years old and for the past year or so I have been noticing the very slight but continual loss of hair on the top of my head. I have been on various antibiotics for acne for about 2 years. Now, this slow loss of hair is becoming somewhat visible to me, whereas before my hair still seemed fairly thick. This does not follow the typical male-pattern baldness. Instead, my hair has thinned evenly over the entire top of my head, and also on the sides of my head like near my ears.

Around the ears and eyes is commonly the first place for hair loss to occur in cases of mange, and a dog doesn't have to have been in contact with other dogs to get mange. The mites that cause mange live on all dogs at all times, but sometimes if the dog is ill or old or stressed over something, the mites start to multiply out of control and that's when problems start.

How much of this antibiotic are you applying? Are you applying it to the whole head or just the cut?
What type of antibiotic is it? If it is an ointment, these are like Vaseline types, then it will make your hair greasy.
Once the cut is completely healed over, you will be able to use your normal shampoo that will get rid of the greasiness.
Some of these dermatophytes infect hair (and scalp) and can get into the hair shaft and make hair fall out. I would go back to the dermatologist or call them if you can. Apparently, the fungus hasn't gone away and/or has come back. It would be good to find the source of the problem but the two antibiotics (not steroid) the doctor gave you should do a good job killing the fungus . It takes a long time to kill fungi. I am on an antifungal for my toe nail for 3 months. It can still come back.

After about a week, Doc put me on a 10 day prednisone regime. 50 mg for two days, followed by 40 mg for two days, until I had two days of 10 mg. After about 3 days, I had no irritation or hair loss. I visited my general physician and he advised me to stop the prednisone at this time. I did.
Have you noticed any other symptoms of being hypo? Certainly your family history and your hair loss suggests the possibility. This needs to be followed up with additional testing. TSH is a pituitary hormone that is inadequate as a diagnostic for hypothyroidism. At best it is an indicator to be considered along with other more important indicators which are symptoms, as well as levels of the actual biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4.

One of the possible causes for the scalp sore and hair loss can be infected pilar cyst. It is a benign cyst on the head and neck which is mostly painless but can become painful when infected. Treatment includes topical and oral antibiotics and surgical incision and drainage.
I suggest you to get it examined from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis.
I went to see a dermatologist today...he was no help at all..he did prescribe me antibiotics and that's it..I asked him about my hair coming back, he just said women your age will start losing hair on top of your head..not happy with that answer.. where can I purchase the been shampoo?

Lyme is notorious for causing adrenal fatigue and thyroid issues. I have some symptoms of hypothyroidism that were induced by using oxycodone (i.e. cold hands and feet, cold intolerance, dry skin, loss of hair (scalp, eye brows, and body hair). I've been losing my hair since I was 19, which is when I believe I was first infected...and it's becoming very noticable a frustrating.
She has had bladder problems from the time she was a pup, (multiple UTIs) and since we moved to Germany in Jan, has been suffering from hair loss on her back with puss filled pustules occuring. Folliculitis decalvans is characterised by redness and swelling and pustules around the hair follicle that leads to destruction of the follicle and consequent permanent hair loss. There is no permanent cure for this condition but it can be controlled by some medications. Oral antibiotics and oral corticosteroid may be helpful. In some cases, oral isotretinoin has also been tried with some success. Hair removal lasers have recently been shown to be effective.
Culture of the discharge and culture of the of skin scrapings from the scalp may help ascertain the diagnosis. Hair loss is due to scalp conditions like tinea capitis, discoid lupus and seborrheic dermatitis. You may need oral antifungals or antibiotics for this. Treating the underlying scalp condition will help revert the hair loss.
