Common Questions and Answers about Antibiotics good bacteria

antibiotics

Avatar n tn Antibiotics can kill good bacteria. That's why a woman can get a yeast infection when being treated with them. Some people do a yeast cleanse after antibiotic treatment. If your concerned you can always call your Dr and ask or check out a health food store for something to balance out your natural bacteria.
Avatar f tn Bacterial vaginosis is common during pregnancy and is caused by an overgrowth of bad bacteria in the vagina (everyone has both good and bad bacteria in the vagina usually much more good than bad) its important you treat it or you run the risk of preterm labor or even having the infection spread to your amniotic fluid
Avatar f tn has anyone used yogurt as a vaginal treatment to help increase good bacteria? I'm asking because I have recurrent bacterial vaginosis infections - i have tried metrogel, flagyll tindamax, clindesse, i have it again.. I bought plain yogurt and mixed it with acidophillous powder and inserting it using a metrogel applicator at night, I always wear a liner because of bv anyway, but there is a LOT of discharge. Am I doing this right? has anyone else had good results with this method?
Avatar f tn They checked me out put me on bedrest and gave me antibiotics. Well it has been 6days and my hoo-ha still feels itchy and swollen much like a UTI (but I'm not experiencing the burning sensation when I pee). I'm just curious as to if i should be concerned and if i should be what should I do? Thanks in advance!
184420 tn?1326739808 s not that kind of drug. Antibiotics kill off bacteria. Activia is a good move.
Avatar f tn , in that they are capable of killing bacteria across the to main classes of bacteria, it is also true that in some body locations and under certain circumstances the ability to kill bacteria may depend on other factors. Mastitis simply describes "infection of the mammary tissue", not a cause or a causative agent.
Avatar f tn If u have an bacteria infection in you cant take pills while pregnant what should you do or what can happen?
3148906 tn?1343695795 I will agree with Smiley that when on antibiotics u will want to restore the natural balance that antibiotics change by killing off all bacteria the good with the bad and we need the good bacteria to help break down foods.... Yogurt and a good probiotic is a good practice while on antibiotics. This should help and reduce the need for an antacid while on the meds.
Avatar f tn If I did get a bacteria infection from the sexual encounter would the antibiotics get rid of the infection since I had 7 more days to go using the antibiotics..?
Avatar m tn Random use of antibiotics have led us now to see more and more resistent strains of bacteria. Why don`t you use condoms and vaginal condoms ? Eggplantz has several good comments. I just want to correct one thing. People don`t get resistent to antibiotics. It is the infectious bacteria that does.
Avatar f tn just called and said its Diverticulia(sp) and also said Bacteria in my stomach and thats what is causing the bloating and stay on Prevacid for a month. Can you tell me how you felt symptoms and how long will it take for my stomach to go down to normal. He also said to eat alot of fiber, veggies and fruit. Then if it does help to take Benefiber does this really work? Avatar n tn Recently I went to see my OB about a vaginal odor that was over bearing and bother some. She done a pap and pelvic exam and said it was vaginal bacteria (bad), I had been treated for this a few years ago and done all the treatment and it was gone. She gave me an antibiotic this time and all that treatment is gone but I noticed today that the odor is back and I cant figure out why. I am not sexually active so it cant be from having sex.

Avatar m tn t seem like I can gain weight like I used too. Does anyone know if antibiotics can do this because maybe it killed all the good bacteria in my stomach and now I am no longer absorbing good nutrients from what I eat? If this is so, will the good bacteria grow back eventually? I know I can take probiotics and eat certain things like yogurt or kefir but I want to know if the good bacteria will grow back on its own.
Avatar m tn I just had an endoscopy becuase i was suffering from severe nausea and dizzyness and they found Helicobacter pylori bacteria in my stomach. A few doctors have said that this could be reponsible for nausea others are saying probably not. what are the symptoms of Helicobacter pylori bacteria? could this be responsible for my nausea? is there any chance it could cause dizzyness?
Avatar n tn Yes please water really helps !! Drink plenty !
328799 tn?1276565732 The antibiotics not only wipe out the bad bacteria in your body, it takes out the good stuff too. Acidophilus will help you get the good stuff back! 250mg 2x a day is a normal doseage for an antibiotic.
Avatar f tn Melissa, make sure you are taking probiotics 2 hrs AFTER taking ABX and in evening before bed time. This gives the good bacteria time to reflourish. Also make sure you are taking immune system boosters as well. I have a list that was put together by one of the best LLMD's, Dr Jemsek. Hoping you get better!
11157192 tn?1430159059 I am taking cephalexin for bacteria in my urine could that these antibiotics affect my baby?
Avatar n tn Hi there Sorry about the thread of the posts. I just thought I would keep you informed of the situation. Yes, the Doc did say there was slight inflamation of the prostate, about 2 weeks ago now. The pain is still in my penis however, and it's now a burning sensation right through the first sort of '2 inches in', like a hot nail being inserted. This actually gets worse about an hour after taking the Cipro tabs (2-a-day), but then settles down again?
Avatar f tn Well actually stop all symptoms. I felt fine for the next few days. And this was 2 weeks after the exposure.
Avatar f tn Hpylori bacteria is the bacteria that causes ulcers and stomach cancer if left untreated, I had this treatment twice in two years.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed in September 2008 with a bacteria overgrowth in my stomach. I took a breath test and it turned out to be positive. My Doctor gave me 7 days of antibotics. My symptoms are fullness and gasy with a feeling of a lump in my throat along with tightmess in my chest and my right arm is now going numb sometimes. I'm not sure what kind of doctor I should see now. It's been 2 months and no reprieve!
Avatar f tn Me too!! I just found out that I tested positive for bacteria too. I'm 38 yr old and 37w. I don't have an infection, but I carry the bacteria. My doc said I'll be put on antibiotics via iv when I go into labor. I've read the risks (bacteria exposure) for the baby, and I'm really sad. Let's try to keep positive thoughts that our deliveries and we ones week be just fine.
Avatar f tn Not detrimental, but antibiotics kill all bacteria, both "good" and bad, so your balanced intestinal flora will be disturbed. But it is best not to take probiotics whilst taking antibiotics, it can make you feel sick to your stomach. Wait until you take the very last pill in your 14-day course of antibiotics, and then you can go back to your probiotics thing, which will help your digestion go back to normal.
Avatar f tn Im 15 weeks pregnant and each month Ive been to the doctor there has been bacteria in my urine. I took antibiotics for a uti and still have bacteria in urine. Theyve sent my urine off for a culture but nothing has grown anytime. My doctor doesnt know why. Is this bad or something I should worry about? Why is nothing growing?
Avatar n tn What is a common, very common probably, of a bacteria, probably, maybe that comes out of a heater, or filter cleaning system, for a house, that if you breath it for a long time, and your symptoms are that if you don't eat often you get VERY COLD, WEAK and TIRED. Do I need some kind of medicine, or antibiotics? And if I do what kind and what kind of test can I get to find out what kind of bacteria, I think it is, is.?
Avatar m tn If it is caused by Malasezzia Pityrosporum yeast then antibiotics will be of no use and may even make it worse. Bacteria and yeasts compete for space on your skin so if you are killing the bacteria with antibiotics then the yeast is able to grow with even more ease. If it is Malasezzia, this is treatable but the approach would be a little bit different. Let me know how it goes for you.
Avatar f tn Is urine in bacteria a uti though? The doc didnt explain over the phone.
